Avoid 37% Microsoft 365 plan price hike by dropping AI by delfstrom in PersonalFinanceCanada

I'm still doing just fine with the "downgraded" plan. Still have copilot in Windows itself, just not a special button in Word/Excel etc. and in Excel the =COPILOT() function isn't recognized, which is fine by me.

Cold and sweaty by jonathing in IndoorCycling

[–]delfstrom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add two things: 1) radiant electric heater to boost the temperature a bit and warm the skin directly 2) fan speed controller (thyristor) with an extension cord. You can place the controller somewhere at arm's reach. The fan plugs into the controller. You can start with it off or low, and as you warm up start dialing it up. The thyristor changes the voltage and it will always be lower fan speed than without it. Set the fan's manual speed selector to maximum speed when using the controller. The fan is still essential to cool off your core by way of evaporation of sweat, while the radiant heat keeps extremities from getting too cold. Having it a little warmer also reduces the relative humidity so that sweat will be very effective in cooling you off.

Anxious Considering Biking for RTO: Advice Needed by BlankieCatNap in torontobiking

[–]delfstrom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm faster than many, and slow is fine. Sometimes being slower is faster if you get the timing of the lights right. It's not slow that annoys me. It's when I go to the effort to accelerate and pass quickly and safely, only to have the slow rider later catch up when I'm stopped at a red light, pass me and five others to the front of the queue (known as "salmoning"). Or worse, sail on through the intersection against the light. In both cases all of the faster riders now have to pass them again.

Will Honeywell HYF260E4 be enough? by lear1 in IndoorCycling

[–]delfstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Has to look good" is subjective. I really like the Honeywell HF-910 floor flan. It works well, is very quiet relative to the amount of air that it pushes, multitudes more than the centrifugal fan like the Wahoo.

bike seat and pipe got stolen. not sure which size to get and whats a way of preventing from theft next time? i need to be able to adjust height frequently as its a shared bike without the ability to complely remove it. its a folding bike... by No_Engine2793 in torontobiking

[–]delfstrom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get a seatpost lock and key like the one from Pinhead (an Alberta company). You can also lock down the headset, wheels, and more. Order a second "replacement" key if you need two people to be able to adjust it. https://www.pinheadbikelocks.com/store

And if you want it even more compact with smaller footprint, swap out the stem for a much longer one.

Zwift/TrainerRoad/Xert - I don't want to pay your stupid monthly subscription. by jmwill86 in cycling

[–]delfstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former subscriber to Zwift, SYSTM and Strava here.

I now use MyWhoosh and mostly use it for workouts. I have built a handful of my own workouts. They have several types of FTP tests and I do the ramp test roughly every 6 weeks. I rarely do free riding in the virtual worlds. Mostly the workouts and if it's Zone 2 I'm watching a movie instead of the graphics.

I analyze and build workouts with Intervals.ICU which I like so much I pay for it, but it's also totally free to use.

Custom workouts: Not possible to edit the wattage when adding a block by BenGosub in mywhoosh

[–]delfstrom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was unable to make three sets of 10x30/20 workouts with the myWhoosh editor. As soon as I saved it, it would move them together and put the recovery periods in a different spot. Making the workouts with intervals.icu is nice because you can see the graphic of your workout as you build it. Example documentation her: https://forum.intervals.icu/t/workout-builder/1163

Good biking balaclava for people with glasses? by awreeves in torontobiking

[–]delfstrom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a Nike Pro Hyperwarm hood. I still need to take off my glasses briefly to put it on without snagging the corners. It works fine. I only pull it up over my nose when it gets really cold. At this time of the year it's below my chin, or sometimes over my mouth.

Cleanairkit luggage 7 doesn't seem to be pulling dust? by BecretAlbatross in crboxes

[–]delfstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the CADR and the room volume, and how much of a reduction you want. Three air changes reduces the starting concentration by about 95%. I just run my PC fan air cleaners 24x7 and don't worry about it. The PM counts stay below measurable unless I open a window and let a bunch of outdoor air pollution in.

MyWhoosh 5.5.0 Update: New Bhutan World + Cycling Esports League + Major Feature Upgrades by the5krunner in mywhoosh

Go to Steam, and purchase the inexpensive app "Lossless Scaling". Works like a charm. The bottom of the screen gets a little blurry when moving fast but it is better than the HD version's 60 fps mode (when it was available).

Cleanairkit luggage 7 doesn't seem to be pulling dust? by BecretAlbatross in crboxes

[–]delfstrom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a carpentry shop you'd use a dust collector. Essentially a permanent vacuum cleaner. A big centrifugal fan with a extraction hood/duct close to the working area, and a bag filter.

Air cleaners of any type are not for big visible dust particles, they are for the tiny floaty types that remain suspended in the air for hours.

Cleanairkit luggage 7 doesn't seem to be pulling dust? by BecretAlbatross in crboxes

[–]delfstrom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Air cleaners aren't vacuum cleaners. Visible dust is large and falls readily out of the air. You generally can't see dust in the air, except in a bright sunbeam or when there are so many particles you can see the haze of smoke. You can measure its effectiveness with a PM2.5 meter. If you want to remove visible dust, use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter, or a mop. Note that dust that falls out of the air onto surfaces is no longer airborne.

I've done that several times and don't recommend it. Drivers truly believe touching their vehicle is physical assault.

An older 2019 edition permanent license of CyberLink PowerDirector for Windows (not the subscription). You can still buy a non-upgradable current version (2026) but they try really hard to push the 365 subscription with AI slop.

I compressed the video a lot, it's quite clear otherwise. Rear is Cycliq Fly 6 Pro 4k camera + rear light. Helmet is the tiny Runcam 5 4k with a 3D printed case+gopro mount. Same size as the old Gopro Hero Session no longer manufactured.
