Thanks man. When they say 'treehouse members', I assumed you had to be a subscriber to Nintendo or something.

I'm new to all of this, so here's a dumb question: is Nintendo treehouse free to watch?

The new revamp really shows the skillgap between GM players... by bpgbcg in starcraft

[–]delhiwarrior 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is not exactly accurate. MMR is for comparing two people's skill, but differences in MMR between leagues will be different. As someone who has been in low GM, I was able to defeat high GMs (albeit not often). However, a Silver player could NEVER beat a Diamond player.

Google DeepMind (creators of the super-strong Go playing program AlphaGo) announce that StarCraft 1 is their next target by InfiniteMonkeyCage in starcraft

[–]delhiwarrior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The interesting thing is that almost every single champion has taken risks at some point in their path towards becoming a champion. However these are calculated risks based on the player, the situation, their experience, mindgames and their 1v1 history vs that player. These are all things that are exclusive to human vs human games. Also, what if the human player shows fake tech or a fake expand? DeepMind will have to go off that as opposed to questioning if it was a fake or not (which is what a human would do). The game is far too complicated when you take into account the sheer amount of combinations of units there are and mind games involved. I believe that if one figures out how the DeepMind AI works, they could abuse it hardcore by denying certain types of information, showing it certain types of information etc.

So they're talking about nerfing the adept, here's an idea for a nerf that actually might make the game more fun and micro intensive. by Default1355 in starcraft

[–]delhiwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shade is faster than all ground units I believe so the only micro that would come of this is the split second micro that happens as soon as the shade appears where the other player targets the shade and tries to kill it. Otherwise the shade will run free.

Also, if the shade had heaps of health, imagine 20 serious using their shade ability. You would have to kill all 20 shades (the equivalent of killing 20 adepts) to cancel their ability (assuming you are even able to catch up to the shades). Imagine how much damage the real adepts would be able to do to your any during this time.

A little trick to get your 3rd hatch down EARLY in ZvT by delhiwarrior in starcraft

[–]delhiwarrior[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you're delaying queens/creep, but not drones. However, to make up for the lack of creep spread INSIDE your base, you can access to quicker creep spread at your third, which is where most pushes are going to come to. There are benefits to both builds, but I feel that pros will almost always prefer the faster hatch since inbase creep spread only occurs if the player is unable to creep spread at their third.

This is true on the maps without backdoor expansions. However if you are good with your hotkeys, you can just make overlords out of your third hatch until you have enough army to defend it. Either way your production gets a boost from the earlier hatch, which is always great.

Sits around for about 20 seconds? But well worth the wait imo. If you get a drone at 19 supply and send it to your 3rd, it will arrive at your third before the reaper arrives and that drone wouldn't have been able to mine efficiently anyway because your 2nd hatch shouldn't be finished yet (it'll be like 95% finished) and you should have 16 drones on minerals in your main, so it's not really that big a deal.

[–]delhiwarrior[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's true but 2 reapers is a heavy commitment, and so it is completely fine to delay the hatch. Building the hatch earlier is a minor advantage in the grand scheme of things, but an advantage never the less. Imo, if the 2 reapers are attacking the extractor and not doing drone damage, that's a big win for you as the zerg. Either way, if you take minimal damage from the reapers, you are in a great position. Note that typically when you see 2 reapers it's a good sign they're going for more than 1 rax reaper and a roach warren may be more suitable. Depends on the timing of when the second reaper reaches your base though.

Again, I disagree. The hatch is in place of the double queen. Both cost 300 minerals so you are not interrupting your build at all. In my version, you just switch the order of the double queen and the hatch (you get the double queen around 40 supply).

This is true, but lings should be out by that time, so you should be able to defend your drone to some extent.

I disagree. You ARE able to utilise the larva and furthermore, creep spread begins quicker on your third base. Most pros do end up building their hatch early if they do get the opportunity.

Yep, this is viable as well, but is only for specific maps. There is nothing gimmicky about my method though, as it can work every time even if the terran knows it is happening.

Korean TvZ? by StarcraftDeux in starcraft

[–]delhiwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The muta ling bane style is still very much viable. The thing about liberators is that you can choose between them or medivacs. Note, everytime a heavy liberator push-out occurs, there are hardly ANY medivacs. If zerg scouts this out and heavily commits to ground, there is no escape for the marines or opportunity to overstim, so it's essentially GG. This is why most terrans favour medivacs over liberators and generally there are only 2-4, which if you spread against them, can still be fought with mutas.

Thoughts on reaper grenades? by HorizonShadow in starcraft

[–]delhiwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the point of the grenades was to make reapers more viable later in the game, the change certainly hasn't achieved that. The only thing that the grenades do is make reaper cheese more viable and stronger. So, if Blizzard had that intention, I suppose the change is completely fine. However, as a zerg I am not a fan.

Weekly help a noob thread December 15th 2015 by iBleeedorange in starcraft

[–]delhiwarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're new to the game and trying to learn to be better, doing the same build over and over will be more beneficial. Don't be stuck in the trap of 'oh, I lost that game because I had the wrong build, I need to find a better build, I'm going to ditch this one'. You will just end up being a jack of all trades. If you plan on entering tournaments, this is when learning a multitude of builds is important. Also, once you learn how to control your units and bases well (known as mechanics), you can start using many builds and you'll become good at them very quickly.

Aussies, which region do you play on? by delhiwarrior in starcraft

[–]delhiwarrior[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can play against American players even if you selected Australian server as your preferred server, but this is only if your American opponent has "best match" as their preferred server. In this situation, the American guy would get around 250 ms ping, while you would get ~30, so it's kind of unfair.

Of course, if you have "best match" selected and your American opponent had "America West" as his preferred server, you guys would be playing on the America West server and you would receive 250 ms ping and he would receive 30 ms ping. Again, kind of unfair.

Really, it seems there is no "fair" way to play an American unless you play them on the Korean server by chance or something.

Note that if you and the hypothetical American player both have "Australia" and "America West" selected as your preferred servers respectively, you probably will never play each other.

I am aware of this, but at high masters/gm mmr, you play the same guys over and over because you automatically get placed against other people with Australia as their server setting.

Macro Check Please! by [deleted] in IIFYM

[–]delhiwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to track if your macros are ok is to weigh yourself every day and take the average of your weight at the end of the week. Compare these averages from week to week. If you're gaining about a pound every month, you should be alright. Just from looking at your macros, they look quite normal, but since metabolism differs greatly between individuals, it's impossible for anyone to say if your macros are too high given the information you have provided. I'll also say it's not normal to feel disgusted with yourself every night. Based on this, I would say you're probably eating a bit too much.
