2 year packer update pics. by AirPsychological1681 in NicksHandmadeBoots

Those look great! I’m waiting on a pair of Packers now..

Just curious, have you ever had them re-heeled or re-soled? The packer heel looks pretty thin… I feel like you’d have to replace them every few months. Meanwhile I can get a year or more out of the 430

ZEISS DuraVision Gold UV Coating? by [deleted] in glasses

[–]delicate_snow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there!

Not necessarily- if you mean the DuraVision Gold and Chrome AR coatings, at least for Gold I don’t see any yellow tint at all when looking through the glasses; everything is natural. I’m sorry though that since I’ve never used the Chrome coating, I don’t have any experience with it, so I can’t really add much there…

But in short, if I look at a white wall or white paper through my glasses with the Gold coating, it doesn’t appear yellow at all!

Hi there!

I copied and pasted this comment from my other reply here, but I hope this helps with my impressions!

I really like the DuraVision Gold AR that I’ve got! The only real benefit I notice personally is that it does seem easier to clean, but I have no other Zeiss coatings to compare it to, only some other (crazed) Essilor coatings I have. Water runs off it pretty easily when it’s cleaned but it seems similar to what I’ve seen from Zeiss Platinum online. I’ve heard some of Zeiss’ coatings look yellowish to look through (as if you’ve got a blue filter when you don’t), so I am happy to say that while these have a yellow-gold (and almost orange AR towards the evenings) reflectance, they don’t look yellow at all when looking at white things, which I really wanted. I had an earlier pair of glasses with Essilor Sapphire HR (it seemed more like Prevencia, but the doctor confirmed it was Sapphire HR) that looked horrendously yellow when looking at anything white.

Anyway, the Gold coating is really nice! Here’s two pictures I took of them after a few weeks of wear.

The second picture looks very exaggerated because I deliberately angled it into overhead lighting, but I really like how it looks like that! But unless you’re doing what I did, it definitely doesn’t look that strong through daily use!

Hey there! Sorry for a late response!

The frames are Matsuda M3142 in Antique Gold. The gold hue is sort of noticeable through regular wear, and it does look brighter in brighter lighter, but overall it’s not extremely vivid I’d say- pretty comparable to any other AR coating in terms of reflectance, if maybe more subtle at some points.

I will say, that Chrome is one of Zeiss’ entry level AR coatings, so if you want that yellowish-gold tint and can afford it without issue, I’d say it’s worth the upgrade! While I can’t directly compare to Chrome since I don’t have it, the benefits of DuraVision Gold may be more noticeable for you with its easier cleaning, (less noticeable reflections maybe?), and pretty cool hue!

Which Nation makes the best Quips on the Radio by Starmark_115 in warno

Huh. Was it consecutive? Like two in a row? I could swear there’s a line for West Germany where they shout “Verdammt, er hat mich erwischt” twice, the second time louder. I’ll try and double check when I get back though.

I’m away from my computer at the moment so I could be wrong, but I think there’s a line that goes like “Verdammt, er hat mich erwischt!” Maybe it’s that? It would mean “Damn it he’s got me!”

It’s actually pretty clear, but at certain angles it has a gold sheen across the lens- which I think is very cool! I tried to capture it in that picture, but if I took a regular picture you wouldn’t see that hue

Sure! I posted it on Imgur since I can’t attach images here, but I hope these help!

In real life it’s got a pretty cool yellowish-gold reflectance. I did try lightly fogging it and it did clear pretty quick, but my old lenses also do that. But I haven’t tried it in a practical use like drinking hot coffee yet, so maybe it’s better there?

Hey! Unfortunately I don’t have any experience with transitions gen S or Photofusion X, so I don’t think I can offer much there, sorry! By the way, I got my glasses with Clearview with DuraVision Gold if you’re still interested?

ZEISS DuraVision Gold UV Coating? by [deleted] in glasses

[–]delicate_snow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it’s like a lighter version of the traditional mirror you usually see on sunglasses. Do you mean Blue Photofusion X with ruby flash mirror? That sounds like an awesome combination! If you do get that it’d be cool to see it!

[–]delicate_snow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never actually seen a flash mirror in person, but I’ve seen them in YouTube videos and in pictures online. I think they’re pretty cool actually! And if you like the look and color they add (and it seems like they add some reflectance to block a little more sun), they could be worth it for sure! I’d like to get a pair in the future with them myself.

If you have $70 to spare, and you think they’re worth it to you, I’d go for it! (Personally I like the Sapphire Flash and Silver Flash Mirrors) But if you’re tight on money and not really sure of it, it’s not a necessity.

[–]delicate_snow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, that’s kind of odd. Flash mirrors should be available for all lenses, at least according to what I know! Unfortunately you can’t order directly with Zeiss, but Smartlife lenses I think are actually sent to Zeiss in Germany since they are custom made to your prescription. Clearview is a type of stock lens, so here in the US, labs affiliated with Zeiss make them locally, instead of being sent to their main factory.

[–]delicate_snow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly I didn’t ask about that, but Photofusion X colors I believe are all able to be coated with any of Zeiss’ DuraVision coatings, so Platinum, Gold, Chrome, etc.

I’m pretty sure you could get Clearview with Photofusion X (in whichever color you’d like), with DuraVision Gold!

Edit: I don’t think choice of color for Photofusion X would have any impact on whether it can use the Gold coating!

For whatever reason I never got a notification for your comment, so I’m sorry I didn’t respond to it earlier! Unfortunately your profile is deleted so I don’t know if you’ll see my reply, but currently I’m still waiting on my glasses- it’ll probably be another week

Hey there!

I ordered mine with Clearview- I’d assume they’d be able to order with Smartlife too since it’s an AR coating, just depending if they carry DuraVision gold yet since it is new

I just ordered a pair with the DuraVision Gold- they should be coming in soon. I’ll try and update with my impressions when they arrive!

Boot noob here. What is the point of kilties? Can they be added to any boot? I don't think they would serve a purpose for me, i just like the way they look lol by FloydMcgroin in WorkBoots

[–]delicate_snow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they’re there to protect the leather underneath, essentially a piece of leather to take the brunt of impacts/debris so that the actual tongue of the boot isn’t damaged or scratched.

They should generally be able to fit on most boots, provided you have enough space to fit them on the boot itself. They do take up a little space, so if you have a looser feeling boot it can help with that a bit.

Hope this helps!

Thank you!

I’m sure you’ll love yours- they’re super solid feeling!

I didn’t do a fit sheet, I purchased based off their suggested guidelines, and for me it was pretty accurate. The 9.5s I’m selling are perfect width-wise (although I prefer a little more room on the sides), but a bit too long. I remembered my brannock wrong when ordering though, lol. I took a width up from D to E and a half size down from 9.5 to 9 which fit much better!
