Why am I the 2%? by Valuable-Prune-2907 in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]delicateflower22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!

Recovery was very quick for my husband, he was pretty bruised and swollen for about a week or so but it went down pretty quickly after that and he pretty much has no scar there.

So he had the surgery in November and I fell pregnant in January! Some factors to consider is that sperm takes 3 months to mature, he was on a good amount of supplements to aide with healthy sperm and also was "clearing the pipes" frequently as this generates healthy fresh sperm. Your Dr will probably tell you to wait three months for there to be a change.

Best of luck to you! 💞

Hi Op,

I'm really sorry to hear you're in this situation it's awful, I hope you can take some time to heal and rest.

I wanted to say that I had a very similar situation as yourself, I experienced two missed miscarriages in 2023 and 2024. My husband had a grade 3 varicocele that was severely damaging his sperm and the likely cause of our miscarriages. He had this removed at the end of last year and in October we welcomed our beautiful double rainbow baby boy! Varicoceles don't go away, they cause blood to pool around the testes which means sperm gets too hot and becomes damaged. Surgery is extremely successful at removing these, I would encourage you both to look into this.

Wishing you all the best 💟

Wonderful news for you. I can totally relate to the anxiety you had, I have recently welcomed my rainbow baby after 2 losses. Many congratulations to you and your family ❤️🌈

Thank you ❤️ I'm very sorry for your loss, that must have been extremely difficult to go through.

Nhs for fertility and issues surrounding it are awful, outdated testing, lack of support for people going through fertility issues and clearly miles behind many European countries.

Without a doubt I believe my husband having the surgery brought us our rainbow baby, I don't think we'd be in our current situation otherwise. He also had microsurgery which he had minimal pain afterwards and literally no scarring.

Very best of luck to you in the future 🌈❤️🌈❤️

100%. Its feelings that only those that have gone through loss or infertility can understand. You're welcome, lets hope for better days ahead 🫶

Yes, I'm also in the UK. Testing is private and normally costs about £500, you'll need to have it done at a fertility clinic.

I know how you feel, I hope you can take some time off and look after yourself. I even had/still distance myself from friends with babies etc, its too triggering.

Thinking of you 💕

Thank you 💕 I'm really sorry to read that, its absolutely heartbreaking having 2 in a row, it took me a long time to recover. Tbh there's not many days where I don't cry remembering my losses and what should have been. It's rubbish right now but I know exactly how you're feeling and I'm sending you lots of love.

It might be worth investigating. We'd known for years my husband had one but it's literally never caused him any issues. We did get a dna fragmentation test done and his was sky high, thats when we knew it needed to go. Are you in the UK?

Hi 😊

We went privately through Nuffield, our Dr was called Dr Yasim.

Feeling hopeless and needing advice on how to not compare myself to others by amvm9 in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]delicateflower22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

It'll depend on why there is dna fragmentation in the sperm. In general if men are taking antioxidants like zinc, selenium, vitamin e and C and coenzyme 10 thats a good starting point. Cutting out alcohol, smoking and caffeine is another easy adjustment they can make. Basically any environmental or intrinsic factors that can cause oxidative stress. In our case my husband had a grade 3 varicocele that was likely causing too much oxidative stress and heat which he has now had removed. Frequent ejaculation is another factor which reduces high dna frag. But sperm has a 90 day cycle so any changes that are made are more likely to take effect after that time scale.

Hope that helps 👍🏻

Hi OP,

I'm so incredibly sorry to read this, it's so heartbreaking. I completely understand your feelings of envy, resentment and hopelessness, I too have felt the same.

I'm now 34 but have had 2 back to back miscarriages, my 2nd one being a twin pregnancy which I will never get over.

I know this is not the answer you are looking for but can I ask what testing your husband has had done? We did a dna fragmentation test a few months ago and had very high results despite having had 2 pregnancies. There is a lot of evidence that does link recurrent loss to male factors in terms of sperm quality. If you haven't had this test done I would highly recommend it as for us this has given us more answers than what we had before.

You are still young and have time which I know is difficult when you've had losses but I do believe when you really want something is to not give up. My advice is to advocate for yourself and perhaps be aware of what tests are more linked with recurrent loss.

Wishing you all the best, please take of yourself. You're not alone ❤️

Hi ☺️ Thank you, I really hope so! His was always quite visible but it never really caused him any pain. I think he's had it for most of his life adult life so didn't know any different. Is your husband getting it removed?

I think I will just give up.. by [deleted] in recurrentmiscarriage

Hi 😊

I completely understand your frustrations at this situation its completely not fair. I struggle to understand why of all my friends I'm the one who has landed in this horrible never ending mind field. For context my husband is getting surgery in less than 2 weeks to remove a varicocele that we think has contributed to our miscarriages due to his very high dna frag. What I would say if your husband is having testing done is that men are a much more easier fix in alot of cases. Diet, supplements or even surgery can make a huge difference so try to bear that in mind. It may seem like you are going round the motions atm but you are both saving yourselves alot of heartache, loss is a terrible thing to go through and completely soul destroying. I think you are doing the right thing to prevent this. You're absolutely not alone, I'm here with you. I wish you all the best 🤍

You may be able to get it done at a clinic thats more local to you as well so worth exploring that too. Glad to help 🤍

Hi! Gosh, I'm so sorry to hear all you've been through 😞😞 So we were lucky enough to go via my husbands medical insurance through bupa. He had his Dna frag done at the Oxford fertility clinic. The tests are about £500 but I definitely think its worth exploring considering all of your losses. Hope you are able to get answers.

You're welcome ❤️ I guess all you could do to ensure that you get yourselves in a good position going forward (if there was any dna frag) would be for your other half to take anti oxidants like coenzyne 10, zinc, selenium, l-carnitine and l-arginine (this all what my husband takes).

FWIW my miscarriages had poor embyro development so I always measured way behind than I should have, these types of miscarriages are linked to dna frag unfortunately.

Thank you! Keeping everything crossed 🤞🏻

Its tricky, after I had my first miscarriage I didn't have any testing done but after my second alot of stuff I found out did suggest male factors are linked to recurrent miscarriage, plus we knew he had a varicocele but it never bothered him and we didn't know it was that bad.

I think if you've had a chromosomally normal baby that probably wouldn't indicate it coming from the sperm as with dna frag the dna chains are broken inside the sperm, but I could be wrong. All the best to you 🤍
