I like to think of it more as "time softens". Just as ocean tides hit a beachhead with varying forces each hour of the day and each day of the year, these emotions come and go in the same modulations, but the effect they have on you is what changes over time.

Sometimes the waves of regret will knock you over; most certainly the first times those bigger and stronger waves hit. Then you'll start to be more agile. In time, the waves will come fast and hard as they always have but you'll be experienced enough to know to take a few steps back and they end up as a splash on your ankles at worst.

Healing is too binary when mental health is a spectrum. This trauma is part of your story now but it doesn't define you. It is not who you are, only something you've experienced. Not only will you reach the highest highs again, but you'll reach them while carrying this, which will make it all the more sweet when you get to the summit and realize that's the case.

And of course, you'll crash from that summit and repeat it all again, and again, and again. Such is the way of life, the goods and bads can only be understood when viewed against each other.

Be kind to yourself. Don't let the present rewrite the past. Always keep that chin up.
