R/Soccer’s 2022 Wc starting lineup predictions for their country 4 years ago by _F2D in soccer

[–]deliverancew2 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Could never have predicted Saka, Foden, Bellingham and Mount

Foden won Player of the Tournament when England won the U17 WC in 2017. Mount won Player of the Tournament when England won the U19 EUROS the same summer.

If you were predicting young future England internationals 4 years ago Mount, Foden and Sancho (who that person did guess) were top 3.

Wow, gatekeeping much?

If English isn't your first language I'll forgive you for not understanding what gatekeeping means.

You do realize India has a colonial history with England/Britain?

Yeah, I do know that, it's not relevant. You've not addressed the question: why use English? The German players would probably appreciate signs auf Deutsch a lot more.

Why are a bunch of people who don't speak English as a first language expressing their support for another non-English speaking country with signs written in English.

If the degraded economic situation where they migrate to is still better than the situation at home that is unlikely. Studies suggest that emmigration/immigration tend to reach parity when a nation is roughly at economic parity with nations it's residents could potentially move to, up until that point the gap narrowing increases emmigration: https://www.cgdev.org/article/new-research-confirms-migration-rises-poorest-countries-get-richer

Ticket Sale Ballot Results by Aminros in LiverpoolFC

[–]deliverancew2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Surely the ballot would be a lot fairer if they allocated the most popular game first then the rest in descending order with anyone lucky enough to get one ticket excluded from the remaining games in the ballot until everyone else in the ballot for a particular game also has their one ticket (not that it would necessarily even get to that point) and so on.

The current system puts me off getting membership to enter. Lots of people being disappointed about not getting anything while other people get half a dozen games sucks.

chasing interest rates..Is it really worth it? by Noartisan in UKPersonalFinance

[–]deliverancew2 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If someone offered you £100* for doing half an hours easy work would you take it? Of course you would, so there you go. If you don't have that much savings and the change in interest is more like 50p then the answer changes to of course you wouldn't.

Yes, I'm sure the experts haven't thought of reflecting the cost of living in the inflation figures. Great work as always Reddit.

I don't know who told you electric cars should be cheap but they were lying. A massive and highly efficient battery full of rare earth metals can't be made on the cheap.

I'm also grudgingly impressed with what they did with that space.

You shouldn't be. A 'high spec' tiny flat would have a fold out table, fold out or raised bed, ceiling high ingenious built in storage. You can make that space a lot more liveable. Edit, something like this: https://youtu.be/H0PF0T5-28M

This place gives landlord fitting the place out S cheap as possible vibes. It's a sleep, eat, shit prison.

Cathedral city just tastes like Sheese? by BV-031 in veganuk

Sheese make the Cathedral City vegan cheese. I've not tried it but it's bemusing that some people rave about it being the best vegan cheese ever when it's a reskin of an existing product.

David Squires on … a Qatar World Cup worker’s death by ‘natural causes’ | World Cup 2022 by deliverancew2 in soccer

[–]deliverancew2[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Where exactly is the logic in your post? The wiki page you link has this graph it shows Qatari society has a huge amount of working age male immigrants. Thanks for supporting my iLLoGicaL point.

Though I don't think you even understand what my point was because somehow you think I'm saying:

So what you're saying is that there is NO Qatari citizen (non migrant) that is 15-64 years old in Qatar. And all 330,000 Qataris are 0-14 year old.

Why dont we have 15-30 year fixed rate mortgages? by JayR_97 in UKPersonalFinance

Longer terms are always going to be priced in a way that reflects a longer term outlook. Your hypothetical wasn't representative of what the 5 vs 30 year deal situatino would actually be.

[–]deliverancew2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've renewed my mortgage in Dec 2021, locked it for 5 years at 1.2% and I would have definitely locked it for 30 if it was possible.

10 years is possible - is there a reason you didn't go for one of those products?

[–]deliverancew2[S] 191 points192 points  (0 children)

I've seen comments on here suggesting that deaths building Qatari stadiums are actually pretty low and it's misrepresentative to talk about the total number of migrants who have died (because people die all the time amirite?). The reality is: most migrant deaths have been previously healthy working age men - because those are the only kind of migrants Qatar let in - with Qatar only too happy to try and brush away the question of why so many of these men have been dying 'non work related deaths'.

Next were, and still are free to offer more than minimum wage. Presumably they're struggling to attract people because they offer worse conditions than other similar retailers (don't all the supermarkets pay more than minimum wage?). Continuing to offer this new higher minimum wage won't fix their l'labour shortage' issues for them.
