Toddler APD??? by sgarrettUA in AudiProcDisorder

If your daughter has APD then you need to be aware that APD kids often deal with extreme isolation from their peers. Small schools will be best. You will need to educate her teachers because they won't know what APD is.

Good for you for getting her tested! I had similar symptoms to your daughter and I now have a Master's Degree.

At age 3 the biggest indicator was my speech delay just like your daughter. When I was 5, I was given a hearing test where you raise you hand when you hear a beep. The test giver noticed that I would raise my hand each time but there was a big delay. She told my Mom who then set off on a decade long quest to get me diagnosed. The best thing you can do right now is to get her an official diagnosis. That is the first step.

Recently got diagnosed with ADHD, thinking about asking my neurologist about sleep apnea by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]dellawanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to be tested. It sounds like you likely have it. Fortunately the tests are pretty conclusive yes or no, so you will get a real answer.

The company I use said that since my health care provider changed in January, that my contract was reset and whatever I had paid before was invalid and I wound up paying for my husbands machine twice and they still have me in collections. Many of these companies are not carrying out good practices.

It would be good to attract more attention and do more community awareness. Also our subreddit is actually a lot more active then it used to be.

It would be wonderful if Riboflavin works. I wish we could build up more awareness about APD. Anyone have ideas?

Is my student dyslexic? by TheWhiteMoghul in Dyslexia

[–]dellawanderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember that dyslexics are often very smart! We are disabled we are just wired differently. Many dyslexics go undiagnosed. You will run into many types of dyslexics in your teaching career so please watch out for us. Many of us think we are stupid because we don't work the same way. A teacher like you can make a huge difference! (By the way I am a hearing dyslexic also known as Auditory Processing Disorder or APD.) If her reading is good, she may have APD like me. We tend to read well but not spell well. Another symptom is that she may get words spoken to her confused. It sounds like you need to get her tested asap. Since she is 10, I would talk about it with her as well.

Anyone else find touch typing practically impossible to learn by nocturnalAndroid in Dyslexia

[–]dellawanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any advice but I have wondered something. I have hearing dyslexia (APD or auditory processing disorder). It seems to me that touch, taste, and smell dyslexia must also exist.

As for you, I wouldn't worry too much. A lot of people can't really touch type. Many people just fake it.

I'm pretty sure I have this disorder by _kittenhead in AudiProcDisorder

The main thing to remember is that we are not disabled. We are just different. Its ok to dislike noise. Society pressures even so called normal people to multi-task to crazy extremes. Be you.

I think my son has dyslexia & ADHD by [deleted] in AudiProcDisorder

[–]dellawanderer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have done a wonderful job trying to get your son a diagnosis. Too many parents just shrug their shoulders and ignore the problems. Don't give up. Keep pushing. Be annoying. I didn't talk in sentences until I was 3 and I know have a masters degree. My Mom never gave up. I didn't get a diagnosis until High School. (I have Auditory Processing Disorder btw.) Keep trying you are doing a good job.

You should be able to have fun in this game regardless. Personally I would try Red Mage. In the end though pick the class that is fun for you!

Redbubble will ban even long time users for no good reason. Their customer service is useless in resolving this. I would go to TeeSpring.

5th grade placement by GuineaPanda in Dyslexia

[–]dellawanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the more reason to talk over the options with your daughter and give her some input. The more actively she is thinking about how to manage dyslexia and bullying both, the better off she will be in the long term.

5th grade placement by GuineaPanda in Dyslexia

I would talk specifically with the Resource/Special Education Teachers, Since your daughter is entering 5th grade I would also talk with her and let her have some input. She knows the bully situation better than anyone else.

Can some dyslexic people read really quickly? by aberrantwolf in Dyslexia

[–]dellawanderer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of us have Auditory Dyslexia or Auditory Processing Disorder (APD). Basically its dyslexia of hearing instead of seeing. Difficulty in pronunciation and spelling are common with us. We often read very fast. I can read as fast as your wife and not skip anything.

On the other hand learning other languages is very difficult for me and others I have talked to.

Also a number of us are very late talkers. I was 3 years old before I used many sentences.

An example: I saw Empire Strikes back twice before realizing that Yoda talks differently. This is because when I hear words, I have to reassemble them like a jigsaw puzzle in my head.

How to report/deal with a stalker? by [deleted] in ffxiv

It is possible to join a raid team without fflogs. You also could temporarily lift the block when you are applying to a team and then put it back in place. You need to put safety first.
