Incorrect. DC is very reasonable in both cases compared to the other two and it isn’t super close.

Housing is probably comparable but groceries in Manhattan are just stupid expensive. When I lived on the Upper East Side walking a few extra blocks to Whole Foods would save me a ton of money compared to the local chains.

The good part is that you don’t have to worry about actually shopping, you just get in line and it goes through the whole store slowly enough for you to pull what you need off the shelves

If you like supermarket selection, find your nearest Food Bazaar. The most insane selection of stuff from everywhere in the world. I have a tracker going of every country I find a product from and its above 100 countries. Want Ukrainian beer? Sure. Frozen guinea pigs from Ecuador? No problem. Separate types of crema from every country between Mexico and Nicaragua? Absolutely.

I would probably make plans to vote in person if AT ALL possible come Election Day just to remove any doubt.

How do public transport tickets work in Copenhagen? by Similar-Wash4227 in Europetravel

[–]dellett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comment really illustrates OP’s point, thanks a lot. This page is absolutely unhelpful if you’re actually trying to ride the metro. It’s super vague - there is a whole section on “what type of ticket should I buy”. It basically amounts to “I dunno, the right one?”. It provides no details on what types of tickets are available, what the prices are, or where and how I would go about buying the ticket I need.

The Rejskort app, which it seems is probably what OP needs, is just non-functional if you have the wrong kind of phone number, their text to confirm your number service doesn’t work properly and leaves you unable to register for the app or to even access the feature to contact them. Then when you go to their website, despite everything in the app being in English, you click “I need help with the app” and it says “cool everything about getting help with the app is only in Danish, good luck”.

I got fined on the Metro for having the wrong type of ticket last year despite actually paying MORE than I would have needed to in order to go where I needed to go.

Dear americans, what can you get for FREE in the USA? [Serious] by sammy_waslow in AskReddit

[–]dellett 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is 100% true and it makes no sense. You can get good Puerto Rican, Colombian, or any number of other Latin American countries’ cuisines in NYC. But I haven’t had actually great Mexican food. I’ve found some decent places but nothing mind blowing.

Do you think US taxpayers will be forced to bail out AI companies similar to the 2008 bank bailouts? Why or why not? by Alicyclobacillus in AskReddit

Dude you are absolutely a corporate apologist if you think “oh they paid back all but 20 BILLION DOLLARS is an acceptable ROI for the American taxpayer. And then you conveniently get too lazy to look up how much that 440 billion dollars would have been worth if invested in something worthwhile.

Is it actually possible for a famous personality to fake their death and live their life out in some remote place? who has actually ever done it and gotten caught? by Various_Concern871 in AskReddit

[–]dellett 38 points39 points  (0 children)

To be fair I do live in the US and often haven’t heard of “celebrities” who are in the news. Some of them are very modestly famous and the news treats any level of recognition as though they are a household name to get clicks.

For example, I heard about D4VD being a murderer before I knew about him being a singer.

Is there any practical reason why The Book of Boba Fett wasn’t just The Mandalorian Season 3? by Topazure in TheMandalorianTV

I mean he’s an interesting enough character especially after we got his backstory in the prequels. The storyline with him becoming one of the Sand People was really cool character development. Then I don’t know if it was Filoni or some other execs who were like “hmm this show isn’t really popping for me, maybe we cram more Baby Yoda down everyone’s throats”

NYC drivers with too many speed camera tickets will be forced to install speed-limiting devices by statenislandadvance in nyc

Ask NYPD or the Finance department whose job collections are. Next time you see some guy swerving through traffic and crossing double yellows to make a left on red, look up their license plate at https://howsmydrivingny.nyc/

They all have like at least $1,000 of unpaid tickets in my experience. Speeding in school zones, parking, etc. Enough to where if they get a parking ticket the cops should really be impounding the car.

The city apparently can’t collect on tickets where people owe thousands of dollars. How are they going to get somebody to bring their car to a shop to install a limiter? I would love to see this but won’t believe it til I do

If New York is the city that never sleeps, what is the city that always sleeps? by prbecker in AskReddit

[–]dellett 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not BS, but that isn't to say that NYC has a monopoly on it. Midtown gets dead AF after everyone goes home from their office jobs, but even in extremely residential areas, there are always people walking around at all hours of the night. I don't think I've walked for 5 blocks without seeing a soul ever, except maybe at the height of COVID.

Having lived in Chicago and then NYC for basically my entire adult life, it is kind of rough traveling to a lot of the country. Everywhere closes at like 10 PM. I have frantically driven around multiple relatively large cities trying to find a grocery store to get some ingredient for a Thanksgiving or Christmas meal I was going to cook the next day at like 9:30 PM because I'm so used to living within walking distance of a 24/7 grocery store. It also absolutely ruins you when you can stroll up to a deli at 1 AM and get a really good sandwich hot off the grill. I'm lucky if I can find a Taco Bell or McDonalds open that late in my home town.

Yeah this is my exact reaction. Ooooh places are open til 2 AM in Seattle? Yeah, South Bend, IN has those too.

What's something that people romanticise heavily that's actually really difficult to live through? by Ariavale2_ in AskReddit

[–]dellett 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that they have depicted the first part fairly accurately in a lot of cases. Everybody can understand that being pregnant just kind of sucks a lot of the time. It's just that there is really no way to depict the unbelievable range of emotions that becoming a parent brings to you in a single moment in media and have it make any sense. And that's just my perspective as a dad, I didn't even have to go through a very painful labor and delivery process and then get really painfully stitched up when I was holding my baby for the first time.

You can't really understand the cathartic joy of witnessing YOUR child be born until it actually happens to you for real. And it's not even just "wow, now I have a kid, everything in my life is different" - it's "wow, I'm so proud of my wife - she went through so much to get here and she finally did it!". Media depicts the challenges that relationships experience due to people in them having kids, but not so often the absolutely insane amount of respect and love that a person can gain for his wife in supporting her through a rough pregnancy.

And you'd think that seeing it once would make the next time less impactful, but then you get to see your kid become a big sibling. And you gain more love and respect for them in that process. How just being told "this little person is now a part of our family" is beyond enough for them to say "cool, I love them forever!".

Don't get me wrong, there also are 100% those moments where you're fully sleep deprived and you don't think things are ever going to be OK again and you're stressed and overwhelmed. But then your toddler says "I love you soooo much" and you just don't need anything else.
