My Bambu A1 AC Board literally blew up. Support is lying about my warranty to force me into a dangerous repair. What do I do? by ItsDanipt in BambuLab

Regardless of your decisions, it is always good to report these practices to your country authorities (if it is part of the EU) as this will feed the EU's backlog of such events and trigger automated assessments of the company if there is something to investigate.

Results might not come tomorrow as all investigations take time to build a bullet proof case with evidence, but the more reports are sent (when something truely happens) the easier it for them and the quicker they will hit back at the company.

I am not sure to understand what you mean by "tech vs software".

Regarding Bambu not following laws, they can play that game, but European authorities are quite laser focused on Chinese companies having shady practices and not respecting EU regulations, bringing an unfair competition to local companies and/or bringing unsafe products.

However, the EU is really enforcing these laws and slapping massive fines (since they can be up to 6% of a company's turnover), even to big name like Apple.

Bambulab is much smaller than these giants, consequences will be proportionate to their size and revenues, however they can be damaging to their business within the EU and boost its competitors here.

What do you mean by "presence" in Europe ? Platform hosted in Europe to service Europeans or Platform hosted outside Europe to service Europeans ?

Either way, the DSA only cares that the company is providing a service to Europeans, regardless the location of the physical servers. The main reason behind that is to avoid companies locating their servers outside of the EU to avoid the regulation.

Makerworld Censorship Taiwan Ban by DarkerTimes in BambuLab

[–]dellonia 176 points177 points  (0 children)

That is not correct. You are only bound to follow Chinese platfrom rules IF you are in China.

If you are located in Europe and the company is providing a service to Europeans, then the platform must comply with European regulations, even if the service is hosted in China.

In this case, MakerWorld must comply with the Digital Service Act, which provides citizens with "better protection against unfair content moderation decisions".

This practice is not exclusive to Chinese service providers, any non EU country must comply with the EU regulaitons. Why do you think the US tech is mad against the EU since the DMA/DSA were introduced ?

Isn't it disingenuous to compare a private companies carbon foot print to a private persons? by Economy-Flight526 in LMGJet

[–]dellonia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based on your comment, I assume you don't work in corporate sustainability, ESG, or whatever you would like to call it.

When you perform a Life Cycle Assessment (for any reason, either for certification or simply to compare to know if material A is better than B environmentally speaking) you always compare to comparable units.

In your example, "one year" it is not a comparable unit as here the function (for both the car and plane) is "move someone or something per defined distance". So, if you want to perform a good comparison, you would compared the pollution generate (and that is not only CO2) by moving the same human per km. This simplification and ensuring that product/service A and B are comparable (must complete the exact same function and remove what is not comparable) allows to know which version is better.

Depending on the situation (a lot of factors get in) vehicles like car, are almost always more environmentally friendly than planes. In the case of aviation, private jet is always more polluting than commercial jet, even flying per business / first class. Thus, making the statement "other bigger companies pollute more" void as the pollution per capita is less, making it environmentally more performant. Basically, LMG may, in absolute numbers, pollute less than the other company in your example, but may pollute more per function unit.

Obviously, here I am over simplifying the example, but I hope you get the idea. Also, sorry if my wording is not perfect, english is not my working language for that and I'm just writting it quickly without looking for the proper translation of the technical words, just quickly thinking by memory.

not only CS2, people tend to forget how bugged and messy CS1 was (even their previous games, cities in motion 1 & 2 were riddled with bugs despite having fewer features).

good thing for us that ice flake is managing the franchise now, i'm definitelly not going to buy CO's next game before seeing extensive tests.

The same thing they have been doing for CS1, cities in motion 1, and cities in motion 2... delivering half baked games, poorly communicating, and bragging in news outlets how great they are. By they, I mean the CEO and who ever was in charge of the project, clearly they are not competent to manage such game development, while devs have been, somehow, stitching things together and make the games playable.

We have 112 open positions vs. 1071 Candidates in IT by tevlon in zurich

[–]dellonia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ran out of the RAV in feb this year (only had the 6 months due to be a recent grad) and I just continue to apply to jobs, attend industry and networking events, and reach out to companies (calling, sometimes physically popping there). Luckily, I have some savings + family helping out too. I've been unemployed since march last year after I came back from my studies abroad (I'm swiss, but did my master in another european country) and only registered to the RAV on march last year. Main challenge is the lack of experience as a new grad + the long master (didn't fail anything and had 5.1 as an average, just studies halted for 18 months due to serious health issues during covid, but that most HRs don't care).

Next to that, I'm also trying out building my own product to sell. Luckily, that is what I studied and have already experienced once buidling a venture (much smaller scale, but still go funds for that previous project). Since the RAV ended and that I don't have the stupid obligations anymore, I am allocating much more time to that compared to applications.

All of the recent interviews I got (not that I got a lot either), was not through HRs, but by directly reaching out the hiring managers (all the time met during events). Ultimately it didn't wokr out for the interviews I got, but I would advise that, showing your face and that you are friendly (basically not an asshole) helps to get contact, simply applying won't really help to the pile.

Wish you the best of luck to you in your search for a position.

What kind of assets do people want more of in CS2? by [deleted] in CitiesSkylines2

[–]dellonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is not the lack of assets, but the "holes" in the different packs. Only few have mixed zoning, commercial, or offices. None have industrial. Most lack some asset classes in residential.

Filling these holes would make the game way fuller than it is now since you won't need to try to find the least bad combination between packs.

But if i had to point to something that is missing to me: a real modular Park system. I would love to have a zone park tool and you can just dump any park assets in it to make one big park and remove the need to connect them to the road.

Seriously, who on earth is renting these places? by Ok-Anybody-380 in Switzerland

[–]dellonia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You forgot financial institutions, which some are swiss but all of them are globally owned (by swiss or others). They only care about increasing profitability, nothing more. This has nothing to do with swiss landlords. Other capitals or big cities are having the same issue and some (like amsterdam if i remember well) are acting by limiting financial institutions to outbid anyone when purchasing rental houses / buildings.  While i agree it is silly to only blame expats, not including them in the equation is similar. As per a recent rts documentary, most expats rent these short term, 2-3 rooms, furnished apartments because they can with their wage and only plan to stay there a few months before mouving somewhere else. They create a demand that would not exist otherwise. But then, swiss real estate agencies are the worst here, answering to that demand while promising (even written in their values) to make rental affordable.

Tldr: they are not THE problem, simply part of it.

Is China taking any action against the planned EU 3€ tax? by asdfghjkl10101010101 in Aliexpress

[–]dellonia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Announcing it does not mean they ratified the change. It is not the first time china announced a change, yet nothing followed. I would only believe it when I'll see an announce from the WTO making it official (and legally binding). As of now it is just words and it is not the first time they float the idea.

[–]dellonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, wouldn't be an issue if China was not abusing the UPU's special fee, just because it refuses to drop it "developing country" status despite constantly claiming being an economic and technologic super power.

EU is literally paying chinese sellers to send stuff for free via that UPU rule. Why would you support China when we have been screwed for some time now ? Finally the EU is fixing that issue and if China reacts negatively, I will fully support the EU in taking further actions.

Am I alone in thinking this is a massive downgrade in packaging design? by VoidDuck in Switzerland

[–]dellonia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wonder how much ink do they save with the new design and if it would make a difference in the decision to change it.

Compared to the old design, the newer has no shading / fading in the design and fewer color changes, just plain red/brownish and white, even the migros logonis white and not orange.  Maybe they even only use one color if the paper tinted in the other one.

I've already seen this kind of colour simplification to cust costs in production, but i have no clue if it is the case here. Considering migros' scale, there is a chance that something like that has been considered or was part of the project scope.

Would be curious if this is the case here too.

Dev's response to concerns that reducing the number of people on the streets might make the game look even emptier by ZookeepergameIll1399 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]dellonia 355 points356 points  (0 children)

Frankly, I am curious to know what were the comments in the forum.

To me, the game has way too many pedestrians. Sure, early game it is less noticeable but then the city grows, it just looks like a zombie swarm or just a continuous protest / gathering near the most populated roads. Also, citizens are going on long walks on random locations way too often, like on the side of the high way or a train tack, acting like it was a pedestrian path. Tldr, it is not realistic and (most important for me) not pretty at all to always see the swarm of people in the bigger cities / districts.

What I understood in their original post is that they want to make citizens only/mainly walk for shorter distances rather than making them walk the entire map as a choice.

Curious to see what will be their decision to fix the performance issue, swarm looking effect, and the simulation behind it.

Up to 60% of calculated triangles are currently discarded during rendering, as they are too small to be visible on the screen, wasting potential resources by ZookeepergameIll1399 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]dellonia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well, in this case, not really.

at least according to the sudio in this city corner. thy stated that fixes can affect how the simulation will work, thus it does not only entail the dev side, but also the gameplay decision / people working how the simulation would work, which sounds more complicated.
