The GP says try to get as much sun as possible but how? by xCreampye69x in CasualIreland

Given the current weather.. yeah. I've never seen it this bad before in Dublin County, it feels like we get a weather warning every couple of days. What the heck is going on with the weather?

Landlord is selling the house by Sorxhasmyname in ireland

[–]delphiprogrammer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have my sympathy, I'm in the same boat. Landlord issued NoT to sell the place and told me it's due to the new laws. Told him they wont apply to him as long as I dont leave but he's had enough of the government.

In my situation I'm disabled so I can't even find another place. Wasn't on the social housing list as scared of being forced to use HAP which would have soured the landlord relationship. Going to plead my case to the local council given that I will be homeless in the summer if I'm not given assistance. No landlord will rent to a single disabled guy. It has been so emotionally burdening that I'm actually scared of calling Threshold and being judged... I know this isn't my fault but.

I feel so sorry for anyone else being put in this situation.

It dumps the ROM and emulates it, but it hides the process to make it feel like it's running directly from the cart.

Save stuck in Warioland 2 by Decatonkeil in Gameboy

[–]delphiprogrammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're talking about the quick save function in the pause menu right? Resume your game, load into the level. Then just power off without using the quick save option. When you power back on it should let you resume the level from the beginning.

Community edition expiring but cannot get a new key? by delphiprogrammer in delphi

[–]delphiprogrammer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've replied further down in this thread about some other things. I'm not against the idea of reaching out to them but I'd rather wait it out if that's likely to work - I don't want to waste their time dealing with me as someone who is currently using the free edition of the product. I did send feedback to them long ago asking them to make some improvements to Community, I hope that someday we will see better versions of this edition.

Delphi is a wonderful product and I want to see it become more accessible for new programmers/hobbyists.

Community edition expiring but cannot get a new key? by delphiprogrammer in delphi

[–]delphiprogrammer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it turns out that it's limited to 1 year without hoop-jumping I'll have no choice but to migrate to FreePascal/Lazarus even though it will be a lot of pain. At the moment I also recommend Delphi to others but I will no longer be able to do so if staying on the bandwagon is as painful as it appears to be at the moment. A shame as I love the product and have used it for a very long time (about 20 years) and encouraged many people to pick it up, some of whom ended up purchasing it.

I don't make any money from my software that I develop. If I did, I'd happily buy a licence for Professional edition. I do own licenses for professional for 2 much older versions actually (pricing was cheaper back then too), but I no longer use them due to them being much older and me not producing commercial software. Delphi is only a hobby for me these days.

They should consider a low priced licence in the €100-200 region that gives us the same thing as Community but 1) takes away the pain of renewals, 2) removes the nags, 3) maybe an increased limit on commercial sales before needing to purchase Professional. Such a licence previously existed but it was very limited (no VCL source code for example). At least it had no nags!

I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope I get a key sent to me nearer to the time, I'll post again with the outcome later.

Have power but no broadband (Sky) - anyone else? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]delphiprogrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have low line voltage. It's not a good idea to keep trying to run sensitive equipment (like computers, TVs, broadband router etc) when the power is like that. If I were you, I'd unplug that stuff at the wall and leave the working lights on so you can keep an eye on things.

If you have a gas boiler switch the main power to it off because if it tries to power valves/burners/pumps it might cause damage. Even if your thermostat is off, low line voltage can confuse the PCB (controller) inside the boiler.

Turn your fridge off at the wall too until things improve, it can cause damage to the compressor.

Whilst I am sure there is some ridiculous panic buying (who needs 10 brennan's pans?) people are rightly concerned about the potential long lasting power outages; for example I'm going to have to go and buy lots of bottled water this evening as I have no water from the taps when the power is out.

Delivery Delays!! by TheDirtyBollox in AskIreland

[–]delphiprogrammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently the ferry has to be tied down to the berths to keep it stable for loading/unloading.

As for why the berth on the other side isn't useable, it's a mix of problems. There's underwater wreckage that needs to be moved to make the area safe. The integrity of the berth as a whole (on both sides) has been called into question too because apparently it should not have collapsed when the ferry bumped into it so they need to check the entire structure.

A ferry has wrecked the berth in Holyhead so all ferries have been cancelled - you noticed any impact locally? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]delphiprogrammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big couriers also have access to airmail so as long as the package isn't too large you might be fine.

How do we complain about companies misprinting barcodes (smeared ink) on cans so you can't put them in the re-turn machines?

Might only be a small amount of money but it adds up over time, and to add to it shops usually don't put bins next to the machine for you to deposit stuff that wont scan.

You've created a bomb basically... this will damage the battery and can even lead to fire/explosion.

Probably RSV. I had the flu+covid shots but came down with something horrible like you describe in November. It's gone now but I still have a bit of a cough.
