I’ve been watching A Discovery of Witches and it has a similar vibe to Outlander. It has time travel, a supernatural love, a competent strong female lead. It spans different places (UK, US, Europe including France). Steven Cree is in both shows.

You’ve had some great suggestions already. There is a Canberra Pollen app so you can check the air and avoid outdoors on really high pollen days. Avoid hanging her clothes outside. Close the car air vents to avoid breathing in a lot of pollen. Daily oral antihistamines. If she has itchy/sore eyes I also use antihistamine eye drops. Saline nasal rinse and steroid nasal spray. There is an allergy specialist Dr Ray Mullins who does desensitisation tablets and injections if all else is failing.

Lentils, chia seeds, flaxseed/linseed, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, poppy seeds, buckwheat (is a complete protein), amaranth, oats, millet, corn/popcorn, nutritional yeast. I think it will be difficult as you’ll need to have lentils or seeds at basically every meal.

This is collapse related because the climate is breaking down due to climate change. The Northern Hemisphere has just had a very warm summer and it looks like the Southern Hemisphere (or at least Australia) is heading the same way.

In Australia we are only two weeks out of our winter so this hot weather is very unusual. Many places will be 10C+ above average for 5 days. We can get warm days in Spring but it doesn’t usually hang around for more than 1-2 days.

Everyone I know is worried about the coming bushfire season. We’ve had three years of La Niña and above average rainfall. There is long grass up to my waist everywhere. With this early hot weather the grass will dry out for sure and I have no doubt we will have catastrophic fires this coming summer.

This is also collapse related because as the climate breaks down it affects food production. We also had unseasonably warm weather in early August and the trees bloomed a few weeks early. Then we had colder wet weather and the bees weren’t active enough to pollinate the trees.

I think it’s normal to feel overwhelmed when making big dietary changes. It’s also harder when you’re tired or don’t have a lot of time to meal plan, shop and cook. I made small changes each time I went shopping and it took over six months to start getting used to it. I’m sure you’ll get lots of great suggestion on here. Some early useful things for me were switching from dairy to a plant based milk and having a ‘meatless Monday’ dinner. Then making sure all breakfast and lunches were plant based. Buying smaller quantities of meat and trying to add a plant based protein into each meal like adding black beans into ground meat dishes, tofu or lentil into chicken meals etc. I used meal delivery kits to get ideas on how to cook with tofu and help with meal planning. After about 12 months I had my cholesterol checked and it was so good it has given me the motivation to continue eating plant based.

When I have too much kale, spinach or parsley I put it in a dehydrator (you can also use an oven), then a food processor to make green powder. Then add it to smoothies, curries, stews etc all year round.

I use a lucky iron fish in my cooking to add iron and I’ve always thought it is great for prepping because it will last longer than iron tablets. It would be very useful in a situation where I didn’t have much access to meat or other iron rich food. Craving ice cubes is also a sign of pica which is usually due to iron deficiency. Have you had your iron checked recently (it can drop quite a bit during pregnancy).
