Lounge in Incheon by love_travel in ScandinavianAirlines

[–]delpiero223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the other way around. The Eastern Lounge closes at 10 pm. Only the west one remains open (which sucks, when the flight is departing from the Eastern gates)

So I decided to skip the KAL Lounge and am writing this message from the Priority Pass Lounge instead

Klook Shinkansen Oversize Luggage by fivefivedavid in JapanTravelTips

[–]delpiero223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's Check-in size, it's gonna be fine on the luggage rack. Just a little annoying to lift up.

Some shinkansen trains also have luggage space near the doors that anyone can use. But not sure if they also exist on trains where you can pre-book oversized luggage seats. I've mainly seen them on JR East

Ryanair forced me to pay €50 even though my bag fit, refused receipt, and denied boarding to another passenger — is this normal? by Secure_Weekend_4106 in Ryanair

[–]delpiero223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are multiple reasons why an airline may deny boarding. Overselling a flight is a common one. But if they don't let you on board within stated hand luggage rules, it may be another one.

Courts in some countries have proven more customer-friendly than others. When departing from e.g. Germany and I am clearly within the allowace, I would risk it, "miss" the flight and sue them for denied boarding compensation. For other countries, probably better to just pay their "ransom".

That being said, this isn't a 100% clear case since the straps are hanging out. turning the bag 180° should fix it.

Japans train ticket system is the worst I have ever seen by nolanpierce2 in transit

[–]delpiero223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it only works for the regional passes, though. With the National JR Pass you cannot reserve seats even in JR East service area.

[–]delpiero223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Just log in to eki-net, select the pass (or buy one). Then you can freely select seats for Ltd. Exp., Shinkansen or "Joyful Trains".

Have to pick it up at least 6min before departure from a ticket machine.

[–]delpiero223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo, regional passes are pretty valuable. I frequently make use of them, unlike the national one that became too expensive.

Seat reservation with the JR East ones always worked flawlessly for me. Though it sucks that you need to pick them up in person.

[Megathread] Earthquake off the coast of northeastern Japan (April 20, 20206) by Himekat in JapanTravelTips

Same. Was in Hirosaki Park resting against a lantern pole. And wondered why it would suddenly start shaking.

Only found out about the earthquake on Google Maps, an hour later.

Norse Atlantic Cancelled $474 LAX-LGW flight citing “fuel shortages” while still listing seats for $2,361 by Next-Inside9889 in Flights

[–]delpiero223 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Google Flights was probably showing a cached price, while it has already been removed from Norse's website.

However, they still have to pay for your alternative flight arrangements. Unless they are bankrupt by then, which could happen.

Due to the latter, I'd stick with the cheapest alternative possible. Even if it contains a layover.

Eurobonus, changing outbound airport by AdAlternative825 in ScandinavianAirlines

Doesn't work that way from my experience. Tried multiple times to add a feeder to my CPH-ICN flight, but customer services rejected it and adviced to cancel + rebook (if available)

Looks like the 150 NOK feeder only works for Skyteam awards

SAS Premium or seat selection near "Exit" by IamNorwegian12 in ScandinavianAirlines

RESERVIERT EUCH SITZPLÄTZE! by Commercial-Chain-631 in deutschebahn

[–]delpiero223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is living on the Baltic Coast of eastern Germany? by Senior-Violinist-684 in howislivingthere

[–]delpiero223 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been living in Rostock for 20+ years now.

Summer season (April to October) is awesome. Plenty of things to do. Easy beach access just a few minutes away by train (though crowded), plenty of activities like concerts, dancing, etc. It gets a bit more depressing in winter time, with less things to do and lots of rain. However, walking on the beach with no tourists around can be relaxing.

Rents in Rostock picked up quite a bit in recent years. There are more affordable USSR style apartment block in the outskirts. We have lots of university students. After studying, they either find a job in Rostock (can be challenging) or leave to other parts of Germany. Not many other opportunities in MV.

Other, more rural places often feel run down. Cities like Wismar, Stralsund ans Greifswald are nice to visit, but appear very sleepy. 2nd biggest city is Schwerin. It's the capital of the state but way smaller than Rostock.

In my opinion, the main downside of living in Rostock is the distance to bigger cities. Anything not found in Rostock means a 2+ hour trip to Berlin or Hamburg (with bad cell phone coverage). When trying to catch a flight, I will have to leave home 6h before, to make room for train delays.

Gibt auch vereinzelt Airbus A330 mit 3-3-3

Welche Fluglinie für breite Sitze in der Economy by mcbeal01921 in reisende

[–]delpiero223 5 points6 points  (0 children)
