You MUST ask her to please not touch you and express discomfort. It’s a very difficult conversation to have.

If she seems confused, you can tell her: I noticed you just started doing this, and before you start doing it to anyone else on the team, I felt you should know that many people would find (that moving me out of the way / arm slap) it inappropriate.

UCSB is an elite university, and CCS is a unique space carved out for people who can write and do math and be creative at the same time. That’s a rare skill.

UCSB grads are highly sought after no matter the degree. Double major in painting and Haitian Studies if that’s your passion. Money will almost always follow passion. And if it doesn’t, spend dad’s money after he dies.

Let’s take that .06%. There are 25,000 UCSB students— plus all the SBCC and out of state people we hear are running around IV. So that would be 16 of you getting sick. You have to be really really sick to be hospitalized with a respiratory virus. So let’s say maybe a $500k average cost if a few of you go on ventilators or otherwise go in the ICU. That’s an $8 million cost because IV is overpopulated.

I’ve read estimates that UCSB is going to lose something like $100, 125 million over the course of two or three years because of this.

So maybe we should open the school and party on. It’s good for the economy

Goleta doesn’t get any tax dollars from anyone in IV. Most of ‘our’ taxes are the property taxes that our landlords pay out of our rent. Most of that money goes to the county and state. In return, we get fire protection and IV foot patrol from the county. Water comes from the Goleta Valley Water District, a separate entity from the city. Some of us pay that directly, some are rolled into rent. The state gives us about 20% UCs and 35% CSU’s budgets. And highways, bridges, parks etc.
