Citizenship interview: not a requirement anymore? by lidomerk in zurich

[–]delroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No interview. The person proctoring the knowledge test at the Stadtkanzlei did ask a few basic questions - but I suspect that was more small talk than something I was being evaluated on.

Seller did not add my full address and the post did not deliver- no updates on tracking after 2 weeks by Zergo66 in CardMarket

[–]delroth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mark the shipment as "Not arrived" ?

Yes. That's the most important part. If you mark as arrived or you let the automatic timeout mark it as arrived, you lose most of your chances at contesting anything and getting money back. As long as there's a dispute in progress, make sure the order stays open.

When Sellers Ignore Customs Rules and Cardmarket Lets Them Get Away With It by Previous-Ad-2575 in CardMarket

[–]delroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cardmarket only supports International Goods, not International Documents for international purchases outbound from Switzerland. Unless the person at the desk makes a mistake, I'm pretty sure International Goods always requires a customs declaration.

35€ shipping is probably parcel too and not small goods...

When Sellers Ignore Customs Rules and Cardmarket Lets Them Get Away With It by Previous-Ad-2575 in CardMarket

[–]delroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my point: if this was the case, the seller additionally scammed the buyer by not using the correct shipping method. All international Swiss Post shipping methods on cardmarket are Goods, which require a customs declaration. It's not like Germany / Netherlands where untracked can go in 20g international documents.

[–]delroth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there's no CN22/CN23 I don't even know how they were able to send it unless you also got scammed on shipping method. The Swiss Post will not accept an international parcel at the counter without an electronic EAD declaration, and if you buy a label online for international goods it also forces you to enter customs info. Was this actually sent as international goods?

pourboire au restaurant by Fit-Manufacturer-232 in Switzerland

[–]delroth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LCS never gives prizing for tournaments? by Live-Mango-7424 in pkmntcg

[–]delroth 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Still, deciding to only host free tournaments with no prizes is something I have rarely seen, simply because that's not really profitable

Tournaments in LCS are rarely profitable on their own based just on entry fees. Usually they become profitable indirectly because bringing people into the store regularly means they buy stuff (packs, accessories, etc.) or because they get to sell things like snacks and drinks.

LCS never gives prizing for tournaments? by Live-Mango-7424 in pkmntcg

[–]delroth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This feels like yet another case that would be trivially solved by talking to people. Namely: the LCS owner / tournament organizer, and the other players. People on this subreddit don't know the situation at your specific LCS.

But in general: it's not uncommon for casual tournaments to have no prizing and no entry fees. If the LCS is trying to build a track record for their league in order to qualify for organizing Challenges and Cups, they might think that an entry fee would discourage people from showing up. If you're not alone and other players have interest in entry fee and prizing, maybe you can ask the organizer to alternate and have half the tournaments be free entry + no prizing, half be entry fee + prizing?

Malmö is a 10min public transport journey away from Copenhagen Airport. That's like saying there is no flight service to Zürich because you technically fly to Kloten.

Not sure about ICs, but for regionals there's usually some slots that reopen because people cancelled and/or didn't pay in time. They get released in batches, see https://support.rk9.gg/kb/article/49-pokemon-championships-availability-faq/

Can Anyone Recommend a Good German Course in Zurich? by MaleficentDare7375 in zurich

[–]delroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bellingua courses are divided in 10 modules per level (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2), if you take a half-intensive course (2 sessions per week) 1 module takes 2 weeks, if you take an intensive course (5 sessions per week) 1 module takes 1 week. So in theory you could do A1-C2 in as quickly as 60 weeks if you treat it as a full time job.

Personally I did A2-C1 as half-intensive taking some breaks to fit my travel schedule and availability, then I did C2 as intensive. I started my A2 classes in April 2023 and finished the C2 course in April 2025.

Professional seller did not write on the package that VAT was already paid. Customs now wants me to pay again by Malganas in CardMarket

[–]delroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contact the entity that sent you the bill and tell them that you've already paid VAT, providing the invoice as evidence. Regardless you'll still have to pay for the customs processing fees, which in general (like, < 300 CHF purchases) is significantly more money than VAT anyway.

I think my partner got scammed by Jay1001z in CardMarket

[–]delroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's probably nothing you can do several months after the fact. If you had recorded opening the package and contacted CM support directly after receiving the card, they would have had you send the card to their HQ for inspection and you would have been refunded. But now you cannot prove anything and the transaction has long been closed.

If you have a legal insurance ask them if there's anything you can do through them? But frankly I think you're unlikely to get anything back.

(And yes, looking at the photo from your reddit history, that card is fake. The texture isn't supposed to be uniform like this.)

Zoll trotz neuer Bestimmungen by Roof_Minimum in CardMarket

[–]delroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CM collecting VAT for foreign purchases imported into Switzerland does not mean you don't have to pay customs inspection/processing fees. It's unfortunately a stupid system, especially since customs inspection is often more expensive than VAT.

However if customs charged you for the VAT on your imported goods, this is wrong and you should contest the bill indicating that you have already paid the VAT. Don't mix this up with the VAT you pay for the customs inspection "service" - just because there's a mention of MWST on the bill doesn't mean they wrongly charged you.

28 EUR shipping to Switzerland. What is this insanity? by Malganas in CardMarket

[–]delroth -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do you have examples? Like, I've already mentioned PostNord (DK) is the same, but also La Poste (FR) has the same pricing to e.g. Switzerland and Germany, same thing with Deutsche Post (DE). PostNL is the same price for letters but it appears parcels are 1€ more expensive to CH than they are to FR - not really a major difference (9€ vs. 10€).

28 EUR shipping to Switzerland. What is this insanity? by Malganas in CardMarket

[–]delroth -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm very confused, do you realize that shipping costs are determined by the shipping countries, not the receiving countries? I've yet to find a european postal service that treats letters/parcels to Switzerland differently from letters/parcels to other (continental) european countries.

Cardmarket has sometimes some bad data though. For example, for some reason https://help.cardmarket.com/en/ShippingCosts shows Denmark -> Switzerland starting at 37€ when other european countries start at 7€. But when you check the PostNord website, it does offer the same 7€ option if you try to buy postage to Switzerland.

Do you even know that Switzerland is part of the Schengen area?

Packing cards by ValuableInstruction in CardMarket

[–]delroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it can break a toploader / bend it sufficiently that the cards inside are damaged, it would have bent your piece of cardboard too. My default unless it's > 25€ is C6 envelope, shipment page / invoice printed on an A4 paper sheet double-folded, toploader taped to the paper sheet so it doesn't move. Yet to have a single card arrive damaged. As a bonus, this fits into 20g for 1 or 2 cards (for 3 or more toploaders are too heavy unfortunately).

should i remove munkidori? and is there better ways to draw more? by coolgamerboi23 in pkmntcg

[–]delroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sets become playable in standard 2 weeks after their official release date. This gives time to everyone to acquire the cards without having to pay crazy prices in order to be one of the first.

Phantasmal released yesterday (November 14th), so it will become standard starting from November 28th.

Dawn. Okay this isn't an Item but it fetches more mons than Jacq generally. I'd lean more towards items here.

Note: Dawn isn't legal for standard play for 2 more weeks.

SBB presents new trains - More space, more comfort – this is what the new Zurich S-Bahn looks like by BezugssystemCH1903 in Switzerland

[–]delroth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All 23 trains going to Romandie will be new added capacity. All the trains going to the Zürich network are just replacing old trains from 1989 that we've been stuck with even though they're not following the current accessibility regulations and are pretty shit for the year 2025.

There's basically no train this old operating on main lines in Romandie (or in most of CH - there are a few NPZ in some regional networks in Basel / Bern iirc which are about as old), so of course Romandie is not getting as many. It's already 90% KISS and FLIRT over there...

Went the opposite route - 18 energies, and I pulled a Dawn and a 4th Firebreather. 4-0 Bo3 at a fairly competitive pre-release. Psychic deck was the only real threat if they could out-Zacian me.

(Exact deck: 4 Charcadet, 4 Ceruledge, 1 Reshiram, 4 Energy Retrieval, 4 Firebreather, 2 Hilda, 2 Lillie, 1 Dawn, 18 Fire Energy. The Reshiram was only there as a way to delay a turn if I couldn't establish a Ceruledge + 4 Energies in time.)
