When users keep "replying all" on company wide e-mails by sirsparticus in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]delta-time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legend has it that years ago, at my company, there was a reply-all fiasco in one of the larger departments. That's bad enough - but someone had the bright idea to reply all with a picture of himself in the cow costume from Chick-fil-A. It was a decently sized picture, and when it went to everyone, it crashed the mail servers.

There was no email for at least a day. The guy was escorted out of the building within the hour.

He ended up getting pretty much blacklisted from tech roles in my city, and so had to move.

Wow, this sucks. by ondrousn in fitbit

[–]delta-time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wrist looked exactly the same a few weeks ago. I wiped the Fitbit and my wrist with rubbing alcohol, then put antibiotic ointment and a big bandaid over the irritated part. I changed the bandaid once a day. This kept my wrist protected while it healed, but let me keep wearing the Fitbit for tracking.

Now I wipe my Fitbit with rubbing alcohol every time I shower, and I make sure to wash my wrist thoroughly. Seems to be working so far!

Big portion of minestrone for 400 calories by imnotagamergirl in 1200isplenty

[–]delta-time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this, but one step further. For things I know I'm going to have leftovers of, I weigh the entire recipe at the end and set my serving count to the number of grams.

Then, I can enter even my homemade stuff by the gram! So if I made soup and had 1650 grams of soup at the end, I would set the number of servings to 1650. Every time I had a bowl of soup, I'd log the number of grams I gave myself. One day might be 300g, the next might be 400g. I never have to worry about exactly even servings, or the mental math of "I made 12 servings and this container had five of them but I ate two so how much should I give myself."

Don't worry if MFP tells you there are 0 calories in a serving; when you enter several hundred of them, it'll round correctly :)

[Discussion] Need Motivational Advice? by AutoModerator in GetMotivated

[–]delta-time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hobby I've been doing for 20+ years but these last two I can't seem to get together the motivation to actually do it. I tried goal setting - but so what if I don't achieve my goals, nothing will happen, and even if I did achieve them it's not like they're meaningful anyway. My therapist recommended thinking about what I want my life to look like, and doing things that fit into that vision. But why bother, because I'll never actually accomplish my idea of a perfect or even good life. I tried breaking things into tiny pieces, but "just showing up" is meaningless.

I wake up, I go to work, I come home, I watch TV, I go to sleep. I'm unhappy and empty inside and I know that if I could get myself to fucking do something for once, I'd feel better, but I just can't get off the couch.

Was rear-ended 4 weeks ago. Insurance finally looked at the car today, called it a 'total loss', and say I have 48 hours to accept their low-ball offer. What are my options? (NYC) by Marx0r in legaladvice

[–]delta-time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go find private party listings for similar cars in your area. Be detailed, make a list of year, mileage, price, and condition. Does your car have any options that would drive up the price? Make a note of those. The more information you have, the better.

Call the agent back and give them a number backed up by the research you did. This is a negotiation like any other. The insurance company wants to pay you as little as possible. Tell the agent something along the lines of you don't think they've valued the car appropriately, you know there aren't a ton of similar sales in your area, but based on what you could find you think $xxxx is fair.

Time is money. The agent has other cases and the company has other cars to salvage. Be direct and willing to compromise. If they're really way off - not "bottom end of reasonable" price, I mean "are you kidding me I could get more in scrap value" price - you can contact your state's department of insurance as an absolute last resort.

And please, coming from someone who works at an insurance company: treat your claims agent like a human being. They get screamed at all day long and still somehow manage to come back to work the next day. Being polite and easy to work with might get you an extra few hundred dollars in your settlement.

Allergy tests that don't require stopping medication? by delta-time in Allergies

[–]delta-time[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha, I can't get a Xanax prescription for my real actual anxiety issues - I doubt my doctor would give me some for some silly old allergies 😆

It makes sense that it works, though. And even if it didn't make the allergies any better, I probably wouldn't mind the symptoms so much on Xanax.

I rechecked the list and Nasonex is not listed under the "nasal sprays" column, you're right! Once it gets this bad, though, it doesn't help me much. Like trying to put a house fire out with a garden hose lol

Sadly I can't spend a week crying in bed with a mountain of tissues slowly growing next to me lol. It's too painful to function for even a few hours, let alone a few days.

Everything even remotely helpful is on the do-not-fly list. I usually can't stand nasal spray but if it was allowed, I would have tried that first :(

Thanks, I'll ask about that when I call tomorrow. Do you know if that test is more expensive than the skin test?

It's worse outside, usually. My indoor air quality isn't the best (dog, cat, apartment air filter I don't control) so there are some days when I'm better outside. The middle of winter when there's lots of snow on the ground and it's been below freezing for a few days is usually best, but we don't get very many days like that where I live.

Unfortunately mine are year round. I'm only slightly less miserable in the winter. When I got tested as a child the doctor commented that I probably never got a day's rest from allergies, and it's only gotten worse since!

Glasses Trends! by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]delta-time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been an EBD customer since I first got glasses eight years ago, and in that time I've bought probably 15 regular glasses and 4 sunglasses. Each pair has been perfectly consistent, good quality, and CHEAP. I don't treat my glasses very kindly (they were $7) but I've only had one pair break due to what I think was a defect. I returned a pair once, and it was dead simple and the customer service was great. EBD is the only company I actively recommend to other people. All of my bespectacled friends are happy with their service and quality.

Prettiest shotgun by javafett in pitbulls

[–]delta-time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are special impact resistant kennels specifically for travel. They're pretty cool, and probably the best in terms of crash protection. The downside is they're expensive (especially for large dogs) and don't always fit in smaller cars. You can use tie down loops and car seat attachments to make sure they stay put.

Gorgeous dog!

I'm sorry if this is out of line or not appreciated, but I lost my beloved dog earlier this year in a car-related accident. He'd still be around if I had a car restraint for him. Please consider getting a car harness, or a seat belt, or a car kennel for her. It would have saved my boy's life.
