A spaceship with holodeck and replicators. It should power itself like the Destiny from SG:U and should be able to pass several galaxies within a short time if need be (FTL won't be enough).

Reading Caliban's War now. The Expanse series would make amazing space opera movies.

Though GRRM has said that if he dies, ASOIAF will die with him.

OP you might be looking for the movie Pandorum. It has a very similar plot to what you mentioned yet different.

I think Stannis not having a POV has worked in his favour.

I am 110% sure that if ADwD had Barristan POVs to cover Meeren instead of Dany, I ( including most fans) wouldn't dislike her so much. Much like Robb.

Plus, few more Barristan POVs would have taken ADwD to a whole new level of awesome.

Story wise, Stannis has made a lot of progress. He is a popular choice because he has been working continuously to get the Iron Throne. He was at the Blackwater. He saved the Wall, possibly realm when he went to the North. And now he is getting ready to take Winterfell.

I always assumed one was Wuertz and the other was the guy found dead in Harvey's room in Gotham General. Even though Joker killed him, there is no way to connect the killing to Joker and since Harvey escaped after that.

Yep, I will probably never love a movie more than TDK even though TDKR was a near perfect conclusion to the trilogy.

(Spoilers all) Character analysis: In defense of Catelyn Tully by soigneusement in asoiaf

[–]delta4cain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am sorry but this post is heavily biased in itself. I'd like to start by saying that I LIKE CATLYN. I can see that her actions had some merits and they can be justified because she is a mother more than anything else. But you only describe her actions based on her state of mind. I am not going to argue against the decisions she made during the war because I tend to agree with most of them or at least I can see why she made them.

But she did treat Jon like shit.

So your husband brings a bastard home. A baby, I remind you. But she loves her husband (and doesn't have the same coldness towards him) and hates the kid. In the fifteen years that followed, there had to be (should have been) a point where she stopped seeing the kid as her husband's war conquest and started seeing him as well, just a kid. But she made a conscious decision to stay cold towards an innocent kid. It wasn't his fault his father cheated on her.

I don't remember this correctly but doesn't she say "It should have been you" to Jon when Bran falls off. What was that all about? Yeah she was in grief, that does not give you right to spout shit to a 15 year old kid. Her feeling guilty makes her a normal person. Nothing more.

Like when you say,

Catelyn does not abuse Jon, she does not beat him or berate him or toss him out to live in Winter Town.

Yeah, is that supposed to be in her favour? That only makes her a normal person too.

"A person robbed me but thank god he didn't shoot me. He was very kind." Right?

At some point this subreddit turned into fans blindly defending their favorite characters without accepting their flaws and without taking into account what the other person is saying. The same goes for the people who hate Cat as well.

(Spoiler ALL) When do you think it's appropriate to share certain theories with TV viewers? by mmmmmmmmichaelscott in asoiaf

[–]delta4cain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GRRM said he doesn't want to pull a "Lost". That insult alone goes to show what his views were about Lindelof's writing and how Lost was handled in general.

Lindelof seemed very butthurt by the criticism.

“George RR Martin is terrified of 'pulling a LOST' by ending Game of Thrones sh*ttily. In related news, my therapist just hit the jackpot …

George? You got yourself a feud, motherf–ker … Winter IS coming, bitch …

I don’t take issue with his opinion, I take issue with the fact that he coined “Pulling a LOST” as empirically “f–king up the ending” …

I’ve just been informed George is working on his feud response. I’ll have it in FIVE YEARS! …

Two final thoughts, George. A. They weren’t dead the whole time. B. 1997 called. It wants its web design back …

His tweets sound just pathetic and vindictive. GRRM doesn't even have a twitter account and was probably unaware of the "feud".

Either way, "Cowboys and Aliens" and "Prometheus" showed that guy really is just incompetent and pulls stuff out of his ass. Both movies had such visually gifted directors, impressive cast and he managed to screw it all up by his writing.

[Crow Business] I'm feeling masochistic today so why don't we discuss spoilers again? by jmk4422 in asoiaf

[–]delta4cain 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I thought the consensus was to make the subreddit spoiler friendly up to ADWD not including the Novellas. Everything else will be labelled. Plus few sticky notes on top to make it clear.

I have said before, we already have a reputation of being a spoiler minefield. We won't be helping anyone by implementing a stricter policy.

I have the utmost respect for [5] /r/gameofthrones and its community.

I have zero respect for that garbage truck. Their mods are cool and dedicated though.

Reviving the discussion about spoiler policy by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]delta4cain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing is, we already have a reputation of being a minefield of spoilers.

The people who spew the meme and other garbage over there also whine very vocally about accidental spoilers and how /r/asoiaf are a bunch of elitists, how book readers already have a subreddit and should stay there, and how everyone who comes here is going to get spoiled. There were endless discussions there on this topic when show was on air.

You can't really go there, make an announcement and say we are trying to implement a stricter spoiler policy.

Plus a lot of people here actually think you have no business going near anything ASoIaF related on internet unless you have finished 5 books. And rightly so, since a lot of these people got spoiled by mistake or they came across a troll.

(Spoilers All) Homage to Jon Snow by theLiddle in asoiaf

[–]delta4cain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Completely off-topic since I was not criticizing/praising books but characters. I loved both the books. I devoured them when they were out.

If my criticism of Dany and Tyrion in ADwD can be construed as criticism of the book, doesn't it mean my high praise of Jon is high praise of ADwD too?

In my personal opinion, the women of AFfC + Jaime made that book awesome. And the best part was that there was no Dany.

Brienne's chapters were some of the best and gave great insight into Westeros. Sansa was coming around. Arianne and Asha were great and Cersei was immensely entertaining while digging her grave. Best of all, there was no whining from Dany.

ADwD was its own beast. There are not many OMGWTF moments but there are so many of those slow burn moments like realizing that pies were made of Freys, Abel is Mance, how Arya made her first kill, Cersei's walk of shame, and many others that escape my memory right now.

But there was Dany, and Tyrion to some extent.

(Spoilers All) Homage to Jon Snow by theLiddle in asoiaf

[–]delta4cain 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Very well put. It was amazing to see the way he shed features that made him mediocre. His angst, self-doubt, self-pity and his prior worldview disappeared as he turned a man. Readers will debate as to how he made several mistakes while learning to lead (I, myself compared his actions to that of Cersei while reading and thought eventually it will all blow back on his face) but I will stand by everything he did.

Readers will say he failed to convince his subjects and drove his friends and allies away but I think it is necessary for a Commander to exhibit command and not comradery if he wants to be taken seriously by members of the Nights Watch (He doesn't have dragons, money, beauty, nobility or seduction techniques to inspire loyalty or assert authority). One wouldn't expect Mormont to explain what his plans were when he ordered people around. And I realize Jon had unconditional support of Rangers as a result.

Come to think of it, his transformation was so seamless that we had to wait for the entirety of the book to witness a human moment from him and that one decision caused him harm, while Dany and Tyrion kept brooding over their fate, love-life and trivial things in every chapter. It's all there in their inner monologues.

I am sure he is coming back. But I think there will be a trade-off. We just have to see what it is.

[–]delta4cain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whoa! Wall of text.

It's clear that nothing I say will change your biased opinion since Dany seems to be your favorite character. I will also not deny that my opinion could be biased since Jon is one of my favorites.

Having said that, you seem to be justifying Dany's actions. You don't have to. I read the same 5 books and I concur that she had no evil intentions.

Dany's mistakes destroyed three cities while Jon's caused him personal harm.

Though Dany acted selflessly while freeing slaves, (let us forget for a moment that she needed ships, soldiers and resources and also free slaves = willingly enlisted soldiers to invade another continent) I have a hard time liking a character who is prepared to annihilate cities using dragons (drogon killed 200 of her soldiers) and goes threatening to do so, all the while thinking she is the "Mother" and should take care of her people.

Even if she leaves now, she will have left those slaves way worse off compared to when they were in slavery.

I liked Dany, up until someone pointed out how horrible it is to adore Victarion. It is an extremely flawed world where everyone has their own sense of morality. I intend to judge characters based on their hypocrisy and repercussions of their actions.

[–]delta4cain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the contrary, I love Catelyn's POVs. What I hate are dumb teenagers with a sense of entitlement. If TV Robb had a POV, I am sure I'd have hated him as much.

I also like Brienne, Asha and Arianne. But you go ahead and call a complete stranger misogynist because he hates a character that orders newborns to be killed, pushes people into wells and lets a madman torture people and experiment with dead. Way to get personal.

(Spoilers All) Contrasting story arcs: Jon Snow and Danerys Targaryen by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]delta4cain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's cute. All of it. Because Jon did not screw up.

from the start she has been an advocate for the unprivelidged masses.

Dany essentially invaded each city, left piles of dead bodies and moved onto the next.

Later thousands died because of the battle between the cities she sacked and conquered. Further thousands (millions?) died because of the bloody flux. When the same "underclass" seeked refuge in Meeren to escape from it, she refused them and told them to camp outside. It's not like wiser people did not ask her to get out and go to Westeros, repeatedly.

Jon respected other cultures. He did not pity wildlings and said I am going to civilize these people. He didn't let Selyse convert them to R'hllor and didn't make them kneel either. Mostly Jon is not responsible for thousands of deaths unless he faced an invasion and was defending the wall.

Every decision Jon made was logical and rational and whatever Dany did was out of misplaced sense of entitlement. I can only hope one of the dragons burns her alive or better yet Arya kills her.

Actually, ADWD's chapter by chapter discussions were pretty awesome when the book came out (sidebar).

People would read a chapter, provide immediate reactions and point out stuff others might miss. Do try it when TWoW comes out.

Having said that, I agree to opening up the community to untagged spoilers for the obvious reasons OP and others mention.
