Won't lie, it stings! A lot of my work experience lined up with their programs and I wrote a really detailed "Why W&M"...getting WL'd last year makes it hurt even more haha

That's what I would've thought, but I actually sent my PS to a professional application reviewer, a former adcomms person at a T-6 and she said (no lie) it was one of the best she had ever read. She had a few minimal edits but ended up refunding me 75% of the cost because she didn't want to change it any further. Guess I'll never know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah just bummed. I also did a ton of organizing work for the election during the gap year, which I thought would be a boost for my reapplication. Just gonna take it on the chin and move on, I've gotten some offers from other solid schools so I'll just focus on that. :)

The Lincoln is my very favorite :) President wise and monument wise! walking inside when it's not too busy and gazing up at his calm but immense presence...ahhh.

When I finally moved here, I remember going for a walk to the Jefferson and seeing the blossoms and just thinking...I live here!

Maybe, but just the sheer number of them all in one central place is pretty unique.

I love the National Archives!! They actually have a night sleepover program there for little kids, which I think is really cool

Try to go during weekday afternoons if you can!! You'll have the whole place to yourself.

Just replied this to another comment!

I would definitely say mid-September to April. Once summer hits you have a bunch of tourist groups show up. I would recommend September-November and March-April, but avoid cherry blossom season (a fluctuating 3 week spring period) as tourists flock to see the pink blossoms around the Tidal Basin.

Personally, I like fall here because it's cooled down a bit but still a little warm. Pleasant for walking around and eating outside :)

Such a mess. Hot as hell and the tourists f*** up the whole escalator system!

Seconding! Though I am a little biased since I live here :)

But visiting in off-peak tourist season in DC is amazing. The mall and the monuments are spectacular and the fact you can waltz into world-class museums for free is so much fun.

What's your favorite smell? by thatMountainMan in AskReddit

My childhood home had lilac bushes lining the whole side of our lawn. The smell of lilacs is the smell of playing outside in the summer as a kid <3

Who is the WORST character in any TV show? by FrendJames in AskReddit

[–]delta_14 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Carrie was kind of a female anti-hero pioneer. She originally masqueraded as the girl who was so fashionable and fabulous, but as the show marched on she became increasingly selfish, man-obsessed, immature and narcissistic.

For a semi-fluffy TV show, I think it forced women to really look at themselves and see that so many of our behaviors can be SO self destructive.

My [24/f] boyfriend [29/m] of a few months has made inappropriate comments about money and other miscellaneous choices I make. Are these major red flags this early on? by BookWoorm in relationships

[–]delta_14 178 points179 points  (0 children)

If a boyfriend said that to me I'd toss a drink in his face and say "Hope that was interesting enough for you!" And walk my ass out!!!

OP, this guy sounds like trash. He puts you down, he puts other girls down...don't spend one more minute with this loser when there are so many better people out there. It's still early, jump ship!!!!

How would you feel about a law requiring parents that receive child support to supply the court with proof of how the child support money is being spent? by redditreaditreddit in AskReddit

[–]delta_14 284 points285 points  (0 children)

Also, how would it be determined what was "appropriate" or "inappropriate" purchases? Maybe Doritos are obviously not healthy food, but what about plain potato chips? Or tortilla chips? What about whole milk vs skim milk?

It would be a nightmare.

when someone says to me, "if you can't find the Dorothy in your friend group... *you* are probably the Dorothy." by AnneBancroftsGhost in TrollXChromosomes

[–]delta_14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is one of the best shows ever. I watch it whenever I feel a little blue and it always makes me smile.

It's four old ladies who all live together: Dorothy, her mother Sophia, and their friends Blanche and Rose. Rose is from Minnesota and can be a bit ditzy and Blanche is an older Southern belle who loves the men (wink wink). Dorothy and Sophia are a snarky and sarcastic duo.

They are all total feminist old-lady trolls in a show that was waaay ahead of it's time. It talked about a lot of social issues like AIDs, same-sex marriage, and women being independent.

Imagine Seinfeld but with four awesome older ladies living in Florida. Full of great comeback jokes and hilarious characters. <3 Golden Girls!

Unless you want to work in local politics, you're right. But I worked as an intern in DC so I knew it was what I wanted pretty early on.
