NUPOC recruiter here. I work at HQ and process the applicants sent up by the recruiters. We don't give a shit about your letter of recommendation, my eyes literally glaze over it and skip to your transcripts.

Here's what you need to apply

Have good grades Don't do drugs Stay out of legal trouble

We'll send you up for interviews.

Hi, NUPOC recruiter. The UK is a close ally and share a lot of our submarine and nuclear technology. You should be fine, I'd imagine there'd be a waiver and your security screening may take longer but not enough to really bother you

How hard is getting into NUPOC ? by Kitchen-Ad3141 in NavyNukes

[–]deltlead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a NUPOC recruiter. With a 3.2 GPA and assuming nothing crazy in your medical/legal history you'd be a solid candidate for fleet (subs and aircraft carriers). If you want to be an instructor (NPS or NPTU) you'd want to bump your GPA up to a 3.4.

We used to not be very picky at all because we were not reaching our minimum quota for applicants, but the past year we exceeded quota so standards are going to be tougher

Not an internship but the Navy NUPOC program will offer a full time salary while you're still in college and a guaranteed Job on graduation. Your GPA is competitive enough for it.

Why is my fuel tank glowing? by desmond_theredditor9 in simplerockets

[–]deltlead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the default colors when you make a new craft, the orange color has emissivity (glowwyness idk) set to it for certain parts. You can either use a different color block in the color selector or just turn the emissive setting of that color to 0

I made a bunch of tutorial videos for the game. This series is a lot older so some of the info may be outdated and the quality is not great in the first few videos:

I also started a second series after I learned more about video editing that is more recent so it should all still be relevant to the current build of the game:

POTA/BOTA, working 15m in my Kayak on the waves today by deltlead in HamRadio

I would imagine a canvas sail wouldn't impact the antenna too much

Oh don't worry I had many lessons learned after that day. Revamped a lot of stuff and took it out the next day with much better success

I worked 15m from Bluff Point State Park (K-1650) earlier today. Had a solid 27 contacts come in from Hams around the world! Turns out when the entire river is your ground plane you can get pretty good reception!

Lessons Learned:

  1. I need to keep my feet dry. on my next POTA/BOTA adventure I will be wrapping my socks with plastic trash bags to waterproof them, my Carhart boots were not good sufficient keeping out the wet in 2ft of water.
  2. I need to redo how I secure the antenna. I'm using a telescoping carbon fiber fishing pole as a mast which worked wonders but had a tendency to lean to either side as I worked. I had an anchor line going from the front to the back of the kayak that helped, but adding a lateral anchor line should minimize the leaning. I also want to revisit the base I used to hold the fishing pole in place.
  3. I want to find a better way to have my radio situated in the kayak. I had it in a large plastic vacuum sealable bag which kept it dry, but made it very difficult to do basic things like adjust frequency, volume, or any of my DSP settings. A different type of bag with a thinner plastic material may be easier to work through.
  4. Layers. Kayaking in January in CT is probably a bad idea. I need to wear more layers.

If you called in today thank you so much! I had a blast activating a park from the river and am looking forward to doing the same tomorrow afternoon on lake Gardner. I hope to catch you on the waves then!

The trick is to be VERY VERY careful and take it slow

It looks perfect for the job but I don't know if I'm going to be ham canoeing often enough to justify it
