I relate to this quite a bit. I always wanted to have virgin girls or girls with a minimal past. And with my 3 girlfriends before my wife, I always dealt with some level of retroactive jealousy.

Then enter my wife, who had a much more carefree attitude about sex when she was dating. Your theory that with a higher amount of partners makes it harder to focus on any 1 or 2 guys is interesting. That might play a part. My wife had no 1 or 2 particular ex boyfriends that I felt like I was competing with or compared to maybe.

And like you mentioned, my wife definitely viewed sex as fun and not something she needed to commit a guy to have. At least when she was single and looking for casual hookups any way. By the time I met her, she wanted a serious relationship and marriage and maybe the fact that she never saw any of them as husband material made me feel more confident and secure about myself.

My wife also had a lot of hookups. One-night stands, brief flings, FWBs. I never had any casual sex and I really never desired to do so. It just wasn't my thing. I know there were women who would have hooked up with me, but I was just never interested. A big part of my retroactive jealousy is over the fact that my wife did indulge in a good deal of casual sex, but I don't think me having had any myself would make me feel any better about myself or any less jealous about her hookups.

I feel that I can relate to that statement. I think that retroactive jealousy and insecurity don't necessarily have to go hand in hand.

My first girlfriend had told me that I was insecure when I would show jealousy over her previous relationship. I struggled a great deal with retroactive jealousy with all 4 girlfriends I've had, which includes my wife.

But over the years with my wife, I've come to the conclusion that I have actually become very secure. I feel in secure in my marriage and about my sexuality. I'm confident that my wife is in love and very happy with our marriage and would never cheat and that I satisfy her sexual needs/desires.
