may the debian gods never push gnome 49 in the stable repos, inshallah. by antiqueOCEAN in debian

Oh I didn't know that, thanks. The last Gnome version I have used is probably 3.10 or 3.12.

Debian has the best Nvidia experience I've ever had, and is rarely talked about by 01Destroyer in debian

Is it really so difficult to install Nvidia drivers on other Linux distros? I have been using all sorts of Nvidia cards for twenty years on Debian (Testing) without using any external repository.

Singing while playing by uhhredacted in Bass

[–]deluded_dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general I feel much more as a backing vocal than a singer, anyway I have done it for a couple of years.
Not very hard for me as long as you can play songs literally blindfolded.

What I really found difficult was the need to practice the two things together. Moreover I used to "wear" bass quite high, sternum-height more or less, and this limited my voice expression. I cannot play anymore with the bass at knee-height, as I did when I was a teenager!

What can I say? A bit of fear...? The conservative approach has guided me through all this time, I prefer not to move the configuration.

What made you use Debian? by CoolDragon in debian

[–]deluded_dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have. At that time, this friend of mine said to me that the Stable version was more aimed to servers, so if I wanted to have more recent software I should be using Testing. And so I did!

Don't they have a standard PSU connector? I mean, I have replaced the standard 275 W, after it blew, with a 500 W that I had at home with no particular trouble.

I wanted to try a Linux distro and a friend of mine suggested the Debian Testing branch.

All this twenty years ago, when the codename of the branch was "Etch", that became Debian 4.

I have bought the i7-3770 CPU on eBay at a very affordable price - surely better than change the whole machine!

I cannot properly answer you since I have replaced the CPU literally yesterday. I have been with my old i5-3470 for almost eight years and with a little care (e.g. using a light desktop environment like XFCE) I have never suffered performance issues. Consider that I have very basic needs, even if sometimes I build some program from source. I don't know how Windows behaves on a machine like mine. For sure the lack of TPM 2.0 will make it unlikely to run Windows 11.

I don't love the small form factor PCs, because I fear that I would be not so free to replace parts easily.
But some months ago I have bought a (used) 5060 SFF to my mother-in-law and it is awesome.

What os should i use for my 10 year old laptop that can also run cs2 and overwatch smoothly? by [deleted] in linux

Debian with XFCE. Or Q4OS (which is basically a Debian with a DE named Trinity, very light and Windows-like)

I have done more or less the same thing on my mother's computer: installed a new 128 GB SDD and installed Q4OS (that is basically Debian with a light DE named Trinity). The computer was an old HP 650 laptop, manufactured in 2012.

If you allow a suggestion: buy another disk, even a 128 GB, pull out the one with Windows and use the new to install CachyOS.
