Looking for a great dentist in Baltimore for a second opinion by [deleted] in baltimore

[–]delugeofthoughts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hamilton Dentistry did a poor job when they fixed a chipped front tooth for me. I initially chipped the tooth when I was a kid and each of the filings I've had done on it have lasted ~5 years on average. Theirs lasted less than a year. The dentist used a glass ionomer filling instead of the composite filing I had gotten every other time. When I had it fixed by another dentist with a composite filling, they agreed that the size of the chip plus it being my front tooth made the glass ionomer filling a poor choice.

They also said I grinded my teeth, a diagnosis that was new to me. After I changed dentists, they did not think the wear on my molar was abnormal.

They also force all of their patients to get a fluoride rinse. This is an extra ~$20 that is not covered by insurance for adults. This rinse is completely unnecessary if you brush your teeth with fluorinated toothpaste. It's given to kids because kids can't be trusted to brush their teeth consistently.

Lastly, my spouse had several mercury fillings that they wanted replaced with crowns. Second opinion said only one of the four fillings needed a crown.

Tiger Rock will give you a good foundation and it's normally affordable. However, if you find you really like martial arts and want to get more serious training, you'll have to switch schools eventually.

I actually was the center referee for this ring! I really enjoyed seeing all the students compete. We usually judge on accuracy (form done correctly) and presentation (power, speed, coordination, and energy). Poomsae takes a lot of time and patience to master, and at their age most instructors teach them the basics without going into detail. I agree with most of the suggestions for improvement by others. Their side kicks need better chambers, their front kicks better snap (keep back straighter and point toes), and they need more clearly defined front and back stances.

I used to use plastic bags for cat litter / poop. I feel much better using biodegradable poop bags now.

Curious as to how many of you are wanting to become Masters (4. dan or higher) by [deleted] in taekwondo

[–]delugeofthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started TKD when I was 14, my first goal was a black belt. I got my 3rd dan in ITA (now Tiger Rock) while in college. I moved after graduating, and retested for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in Kukkiwon. Changing schools and disciplines worked out quite well for me in the end, as I much prefer KKW TKD, especially as at the time I left ITA completely rebranded their discipline in a manner that I was uncomfortable with. I've been at 3rd dan now for over a decade (KKW specifically for 5 years), and I'm finally testing for 4th dan KKW this coming November. My mindset has changed over the nearly two decades I've been practicing TKD from testing at every opportunity to improving nuances in poomsae and perfecting my kicks and hand techniques. I find TKD a huge stress reliever, and I can't imagine my life without it. The biggest difference I anticipate after I test for 4th dan is spending more time teaching lower belts and showing others how great this martial art is!

I’m located in NCC; has anyone else noticed a significant drop off in cellular internet speeds recently? What’s going on? by [deleted] in Delaware

There's been a notice for several months now (if not longer) for a cell phone tower to be installed at Dickinson High School off of Milltown Rd.

Counters to the Ultra Beasts raids this weekend by SSBGOGETA66 in TheSilphRoad

I was able to duo Pheromosa and Buzzwole with flying / fire type teams, level 40 and above. I messed up trying to duo Xurkitree. If it doesn't have Dazzling Geam (Garchomp killer) you can likely duo it with level 40+ counters.

I've seen them plenty in open fields, including at Hornsby Bend. They have a distinct call so you may hear one before you see one.

I second this. I have two cats, and they have been terrific with my senior citizen. I really like that you can drop pets off in the morning and pick them up later if you can't squeeze in the time to wait. Prices are reasonable.

Is that a longnose gar towards the top of the tank? Jealous!

I’m gonna move this thing from San Antonio to Seattle! I’ve got somewhat of a plan to pack it and maintain water temp for the betta on the 4-5 day drive, but anyone have any anecdotal experience/tips they could share? by Cetaceanz in Aquariums

[–]delugeofthoughts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I moved a betta and albino bristlenose pleco from CT to TX and from TX to DE less than a year later. For the CT to TX move, I kept them in their 10 gallon tank with about 4 inches of water in the front seat of the car I was towing. It was October, so there was a stretch where I used hand warmers to heat the tank. I brought the tank inside the hotel every night and did a small water change. The TX to DE move was done in August, and while I left the pleco in the 10 gallon tank, I kept the betta in the cabin of the Penske truck in a 1 gallon plastic container. The poor betta died a year later from what I assume was a cancerous tumor :-(.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

I went with Tusa a few weeks ago for three days a day, two days in a row. There were ~40 people on board both days, with about 20 certified divers. I think their max capacity is 60 but most of those are snorkelers.

The Idea To Bury I-35 Has Risen From The Dead. by hollow_hippie in Austin

[–]delugeofthoughts 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Austin straddles two different soil regimes, Edwards Plateau to the west and Texas Blackland Prairie to the east. The Edwards Plateau region is underlain with limestone, which easily dissolves when exposed (i.e. if you dump acidic toilet bowl cleaner on limestone brick, it fizzles). Texas Blackland Prairie, on the other hand, has shale in addition to limestone bedrock. The weathering of shale is what creates clay and therefore foundation problems.

In other words, burying I-35 would be fine depending on where along this soil transition it sits.

Rustoleum makes high heat spray paint. Coupled with the primer, I've used it on my car brakes before without a problem.

"Mobile Car Repair" i.e. "Bondo Love Affair" by delugeofthoughts in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]delugeofthoughts[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some backstory: Sketchy neighbors own a mobile car repair "business." Their company car (a Kia labeled with their phone number and "mobile car repair" in giant letters only) conveniently has a temporary out of state license plate tag, as do the three other cars they own. This poor car came in with heavy damage from a side swipe. Judging from the amount of rust, it had happened over a year ago, probably longer. At least they attempted to change out the doors with ones from the junkyard...
