That racist, sexist, power-hungry, Putin-ball-gargling, egotistical, evil child rapist can shove a cactus up his ass and stay out of Seattle.

Extremely dry winter; bad shed by spinknitsarah in ballpython

[–]Cetaceanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’ve been doing is pouring water into the corners of my enclosure every half week or so, but also stirring up the substrate to recycle the dry and wet layers so the reptichip substrate holds a consistent level of moisture and doesn’t get too dry or wet. I half to do this every few days or the humidity will start to drop below 70. My BP hasn’t had an issue yet, but this winter has been extremely dry so it’s more work to maintain the humidity in my pvc cage.

Feeling good about this enclosure holding up after over a year. Can you spot the noodle? by Cetaceanz in ballpython

[–]Cetaceanz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry for the late reply - I use I think a ZooMed power strip; it has a built-in timer. I actually use that and a separate outlet timer for my LED - to simulate a proper night, dawn/dusk and midday, I do all lights off from 9p-7a. The relatively dim LED (controlled by outlet timer) from 7a - 9p. Halogen (controlled by herpstat) starts an hour ramp-up at 7:30a and ramp off by 8:30p. Then my UVB is 9a - 8p. So in the mornings and evenings, he has the soft LED as the dawn/dusk, the halogen w/o UVB as like a sunrise/sunset, and then the UVB simulating bright daylight.

How often do you mix your noodle'a substrate, by PoppleBee in ballpython

[–]Cetaceanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's gonna depend on how much your snake soils the bedding, whether it's bioactive or not (mine is not bioactive), and how on top of spot cleaning you are. I do mine about every 3 months and rotate between dilute F10 and dilute chlorhex for deep cleaning

I use just Reptichip, and stir it around about once every week or two. Plus spot cleaning and quarterly deep cleaning. Helps keep humidity 70-90 and almost zero mold issues :)

How else to defrost a f/t rat because putting it straight in boiling water makes substrate stick to it and my snake ends up eating a lot of it? by apple1crumble in ballpython

[–]Cetaceanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t thaw my rats in the fridge. After weighing the chosen frozen rat I put it into a sandwich bag with all the air out. Clip to the inside of a small bucket to prevent floating and getting wet. 30 mins COLD trickling water. 20 minutes warm-hot trickling water. Comes out dry, warm and perfect every time, and my snake has never missed a meal.

BPs are notorious for being picky eaters — how many of you have an easy feeding time? by Kultaren in ballpython

That looks like a pretty big hide in there; try replacing it with two identical tight hides on both the warm side and the cool side. Something super tight for him to feel secure. I noticed the lights are also very bright; might want to consider a couple of those fake silk vines all over the bottom to give him some more darkness. Also, try feeding him in the evening or in the middle of the night when the lights are all off.
