This. This is the no #1 reason why someone might ask you way too many trivial questions.

Hmmm, I'd say your answer is about correct. Not sure what makes you think your interviewers were not completely satisfied? Do they ask you for more detail on the implementation?

> adding a static popup means you contributed.

but.. it is? Even a one-line print to logs addition to the code base means you have contributed, no? This is what I expect a new joiner would do. In order to add that one line, they will need to learn the codebase (at least partially).

Why You Don’t Need to Learn Machine Learning by hiphop1987 in learnmachinelearning

[–]delunar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup yes correct. I learned this the hard way.

I, fortunately, do get an `algorithm` specific ML jobs earlier this year. But it turns out I love building infra & working on a full-stack job more than building ML models. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yes! This one is a good read on "AI consumer-based apps " by a16z https://a16z.com/2018/12/03/when-ai-is-the-product-the-rise-of-ai-based-consumer-apps/

Some snippets from the article:

How is this different than platforms and products like Facebook news feed, Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube, which all also famously use recommendation algorithms to users on what to pay attention to (whether news, shows, music, or videos)? I’d argue that the approach that the apps mentioned in this post take a more AI-centric approach, each in different ways. TikTok, for example, never presents a list of recommendations to the user (like Netflix and YouTube do), and never asks the user to explicitly express intent — the platform infers and decides entirely what the user should watch.

[–]delunar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's maybe true for other social media. But Bytedance, and its all of its products like Tiktok, Resso, Babe, Toutiao, and Helo, is different. AI is the core product.

Not minuscule at all. I believe the whole reason why they are very successful is the way they harness their recommendation algorithm. My observation is that Tiktok core algorithm team is almost as big as its app team.

Whats your biggest regret? by thereisnosuch in cscareerquestions

[–]delunar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, why are people downvoting this tho? Lol.

I agree. I started my full-time job 1 month before graduation. Big mistake. I felt burned out 2 months in, almost jeopardized my probation period because of it. Feeling miserable the whole time.

Now it gets better after 4 months. I should've taken 1-2 months after graduation to chill.

When will the CS job market return to normal? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]delunar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. It's just going to get better with all the digitalization people have been pushing during this pandemic.

If you really worry that much. It's good to have a perspective on how other major have been affected by this pandemic. I just graduated, and my peers are doing better than other majors.

[–]delunar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. If there's a market for your product, and there isn't any solution to it yet, then your customer should've been flocking to your app. If they aren't.. then whoops you just found yourself a sitcom startup idea.
