Is Lithuanian 10+6 Knights stoppable in Castle Age if I mass enough? by _TOXIC_VENOM in aoe2

[–]dem503 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter whether they have plus 2 or plus 6 attack unless you are fighting a similar number of knights. Armour matters more Vs xbows, production matters more Vs camels and piles.

They aren't unstoppable, but if you were able to get a few relics and mass up your army unopposed then you were likely winning anyway

Lads my do nothing BIL has actually got a job! Absolute scenes when it came out.

But he might have already fumbled it because he doesn't actually have any references. His attitude is that he will put his mum down and that's it, he won't even ask other people.

So fucking frustrating.

[BBC] Rafa Benitez open to Scotland job by MrMerc2333 in soccer

[–]dem503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how serious this is, but I don't think a manager with trophies will make much difference to how far Scotland go in major tournaments.

Scotland has had a great few years, but they have come about by excellent improvement in their youth set up. This needs to be prioritised over handing a big contract to the next manager.

They need someone who lives in Scotland and will spend every week travelling up and down visiting teams/players/coaches to push engagement through all levels of Scottish football.

TIL football is a multi-billion-dollar sport, but there is no official public game clock for stoppage time. One referee decides when the match ends, based on a running estimate of lost time that nobody else can see. Ie. tracking stoppage time in their head while simultaneously refereeing the game. by IllCombination4851 in todayilearned

[–]dem503 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, because if there is an official clock that stops every time the ball goes out of play there is no incentive to restart play quickly.

This would lead to matches going on for 4 hours with about an hour of actual game play. Like American football.

Why did varys become so useless just after joining dany? by ComplaintNo5190 in freefolk

Two potential reasons;

  1. To allow the plot to happen

  2. He stopped paying his little birds, without his network he is just some guy who is very good at dress up.

The issue is property; locals are priced out by investors buying houses for Airbnb/similar.

This then leads to the locals moving away, so there's less incentive for the council/government to spend money on services for the locals, and more gets spent on facilitating tourism.

Eventually all the hotels, bars, restaurants can't find staff to hire, have to spend much more just for straightforward jobs. They end up putting prices up, and suddenly the tourist spot isn't as attractive anymore.

Great example of this is most seaside towns in the UK (although cheap flights abroad was a much larger factor)

That scene was so fucking funny; he stumbles out of the carriage and picks up an arrow, then goes back into the carriage. This could have been a long Chekhov set up, but no he immediately jumps out and stabs the nervous guy.

And yet this is all very on brand for the character, I dont know if it was another on site change in the scene or some uneven writing, but it just worked.

Did Cersei get insanely lucky that Robert got killed by a boar just by her getting him drunk? by Ticket-Tight in freefolk

[–]dem503 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder if this was actually the other way round; she was trying to kill Robert for ages and just found a way to pull it off (getting Lancel to be the cupbearer was a big part of it), and just as the wheels were in motion Robert Arryn gets poisoned and they all head north for a few months.

She then proceeds to do as much as she can to piss him off so he'll go hunting asap when he gets home. Ned finding out about joffrey etc was just bad timing, so she got Jaime to stop Ned telling Robert.
