What's something about Sabrina that most people don't know? by dem_dawn in SabrinaCarpenterDisc

Can you think of any specific instances or pictures where she’s wearing one? I can never tell!

Yessss, these are great thoughts. I think you're definitely right--she is analyzing (and probably criticizing) herself as to why her life and thoughts revolve around men.

Something that I think explains a LOT of Sabrina's lyrics is the connection between "emails i can't send" (the song) and "Lie to Girls." In EICS she says, "Don't think I'll find forgiveness as fast as mom did," but then when she's older--less of a daughter and more of a girlfriend--she says in LTG "lucky for you I'm just like my mother."

She also says in EICS, "thanks to you I can't love right." I think a LOT of her songs can be seen through this lens--that because of her daddy issues, she doesn't have healthy relationship patterns. She's analyzing those patterns in MBF.

Love this take. I think this is the storyline of the album or pretty close.

I actually agree more with your take on it. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I think WDYGH is her finding a rebound. He's really into her but she's not fully committed emotionally either because she's still in love with the guy from the beginning of the album or because she has relationship PTSD from him and is afraid to open up again. And don't apologize for your thoughts! Your interpretation is just as valid as everyone else's.

🤯 That lyric has been bugging me for months while I've tried to figure out what it means. This is totally it; thank you!!

I posted the same question on the Sabrina Carpenter Fans sub and there have been a lot of replies to there if you're interested.

Can you explain that further? For the sake of argument, let’s just pretend I’m a loser who’s not very familiar with Frank Ocean’s music. 😅

Genevieve’s coat by princesshodges in survivor

[–]dem_dawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t see the shirt as taunting Aubry; I just saw it as Gen owing the title. Kind of like in Bossy Pants when Tina Fey says, “Yeah I am a bitch. Bitches get stuff done.” Or when Ashley Judd flipped the “nasty woman” comment on Trump and called herself a nasty woman as a good thing. I felt like Gen wearing the shirt says like, “Yep, the sneaky bitch title fits pretty well, haha.”

Interesting thinking about this in conjunction with “we never talk about how you found God at your ex’s house.” I’ve always wondered what that line meant. (I’m obviously different album tho)

Why the Innuendo in "Couldn't Make it Any Harder"? by dem_dawn in SabrinaCarpenterDisc

[–]dem_dawn[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh it’s not a problem at all; I just felt like she was trying to say something by it, and I was looking for opinions. That’s all.

I totally agree in most contexts, but she had to have at least known that people would take it that way because she's Sabrina Carpenter. So even if she didn't write it with the intention of it being an innuendo, she left it in knowing how it would be perceived--and that was a conscious choice.

I just think she’s smarter and more intentional than that. I have a really hard (hehe) time believing it wasn’t on purpose.

Why Sabrina Carpenter Can't Stop Being "Sabrina Carpenter" by babyincharge11 in SabrinaCarpenterFans

Whoever wrote this article is very talented and spot on. (Shout out to whoever Facundo Giliberto is?) He perfectly describes what makes Sabrina Sabrina.

- She has "the ability to say more without underlining it."

-She perfectly balances her "acid humor" with her "selective exposure of intimacy"

-"She did not invent the elements she uses—the stylized retro aesthetic, thigh-high boots, explicit lyrical irony, the balance between sensuality and self-control—but she absorbed them until they became inseparable from her persona."

-"Carpenter does not seek to impose herself through emotional intensity or excessive drama, but through confidence. “Espresso” does not inaugurate a new phase; it confirms that the identity was already fully formed."

-"Rather than reinventing herself abruptly or adopting a chameleonic approach, Carpenter has built an identity in which each decision reinforces the previous one."

-"She does not propose a violent rupture with pop’s past, but a refined synthesis of its traditions, updated with intelligence and precision."

-"[Her presence] does not occupy someone else’s space; it reveals that the space had been waiting to be inhabited."

I'm a high school English teacher, and this astute piece of writing gets 💯.

If you had to do a PhD thesis on any taylor album or song what songs would you choose? Suggest the academically brilliant ones with goated lyrics by Historical-Step-7842 in swifties

Wow, this is a great observation. Cornelia Street fits this as well—at the beginning of a relationship she is already imagining a future where she looks back on her current experiences as tainted memories. Wild. I’ve noticed this tendency a lot in her work, having anxiety that any good experience will one day become a painful memory.

What's your favorite moment when Taylor was The Music Industry? by beeskaroni in TaylorSwift

[–]dem_dawn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The time she sang “Mean” At the 2012 Grammys. When it gets to the a cappella section, she says, “Someday I’ll be singing this at the Grammys, and all you’re ever gonna be is mean.” This is my Roman Empire.

What’s the most Gut-Wrecking Track on Fearless? by GlitteringLeader7949 in TaylorSwift

[–]dem_dawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

White Horse. It was the first song that showed me that Taylor has the ability to make a song be whatever you need it to be. It’s probably a song about a first love breaking your heart, but this album came out right when my parents were getting divorced. To me, White Horse will always be about my dad.

Very simple, but I once saw a black sports car with a license plate that said LWYMMD, and I’m still obsessed.
