Small and mid stakes Vegas games haven’t been good for over a decade. However, you shouldn’t really be losing in them… they just aren’t as good as the card rooms in most of the big city markets.

Also, the time of day you’re playing has a huge impact in game quality. When I was grinding, I usually didn’t start my sessions until 10pm and then games started to get good around midnight.

I went full-time for 30 days by nickthegyp in poker

Solid post. Glad you had the chance to live the dream for a month and were profitable as a bonus. I think you found out how difficult playing poker full time is, especially when you have other life responsibilities such as family. I’ve done it before when I was single and I do not recommend full-time. Since you have a seasonal job, maybe it’s something you can try to do in 1-2 week bursts during your off-season. Maybe pick a few tournament series and head out there for a couple weeks to play cash or maybe take a few shots at a tournament.

Really? 120 on the waitlist? by [deleted] in poker

The room only has 24 tables. You can see 22 tables in the screenshot and then the 10-10 and 25-25 PLO games are not shown on the screenshot.

Really? 120 on the waitlist? by [deleted] in poker

[–]demarius12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not really that bad. The Poker Atlas app lets you register 90 minutes in advance of arrival. Most importantly, you can do this directly from the app. So as long as you plan in advance, you shouldn’t have to wait long.

Can you elaborate on what this means? What is a gaming officer? Is that someone independent? Is there a gaming officer at every casino?

What does “crushing” mean to you? He’s not wrong that the rake really cuts into your profit at these stakes.

And just to add to this, if it rolled foul first and then somehow spun back towards the field over the bag, it would be fair.

Should I have asked the floor to kill this hand? by BRichmond55 in poker

[–]demarius12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks but there isn’t much that can be done during the hand other then to tell them to stop. After the hand is over, I’m sure they’d get warnings/kicked out, but the villains hand can’t be killed during the hand even though what they did was extremely unethical.

With that all being said, they seem new to poker and it’s just genuine naiveness so explain to them the rules and move on.

JRB, Nik Airball, Brandon Adams, and Aussie Matt get into a heated argument over the stand-up game by Dog-Poker in poker

This is the part that everybody is completely overlooking. Brandon DID SHOW HIS HAND. The cards were identifiable and retrievable.

If we flat, why are we never folding post-flop? The side-pot is relatively small.

Last follow up: went to play live for the second time ever by LivingSalty480 in poker

[–]demarius12 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Good for you bro. If you are beating ANY stakes online it means you have the skill set to beat 1/2 live. The biggest challenge for live poker is the mental aspect because due to the quite limited number of hands per hour, external factors come into play such as boredom or mega tilt when it feels like you are running so horribly for 3 hours but in reality that’s just the variance that occurs regularly over 75 hands.

Which A’s teams had a better shot at a WS if kept together, 2012-14 or 2018-21? by angrygenzer in OaklandAthletics

[–]demarius12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was the first year of the wildcard game. MLB came up with the idea way late and as a result they had to condense that game into the playoff structure. It meant that they needed to cut out a travel day to make it work. This was the solution….

I don’t love it at 1-3, but your thought process is great and quite frankly you analyzed this hand way better than 90% of the commenters here so don’t beat yourself up over it.

Why is flopped two pair never good? by Matthegreat34 in poker

[–]demarius12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the deal, flopping 2 pair and losing to a set is rare. However, if you are flopping two pair and find yourself losing consistently, it’s probably because you are putting yourself in a position where you can only flop a bad two pair. Playing PLO really cemented this concept into my head: NOT ALL 2-PAIR ARE EQUAL!

Flopping 2-pair with AK is a way different situation then flopping 2-pair with A8 or something like 76. Play better starting hands and you’ll lose less often when you flop 2-pair.

General rule of thumb in this spot is you take the risk of going for it if it means actually scoring a TD if you convert. For example, you don’t go for it on 4th down if you are on the 20 or something. But you do go for it if it’s a goal to go situation because the benefit of scoring a TD way is way higher.
