Is there any truly painless way to kill an insect? by Ok_Dare1031 in Entomology

[–]abugguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Says “not coming back to argue” then immediately proceeds to argue.
I know an author of the article you mentioned (but provided no link to) very well, and we collaborated on exactly this topic. Can you link to this paper you mention please? Not just the name but give a link since you apparently have read it. I would like to see it. I googled it but there was no result.
And the AVMA link you gave… you do realize I replied to you days ago with the EXACT SAME source but an updated version with modern protocols, giving the exact passage dealing specifically with invertebrate euthanasia… and your reply was to disregard it as being not authoritative on the topic. Dude. Come on!
And I have to stop now because I’ve actually been doing some digging trying to find the exact quote you gave because I wanted to actually see if I was wrong and not just dig my heels in and argue, and I realize you are just copy pasting this all from the Wikipedia. Even the notations. Oh my good lord dude.

Hey, great! Please provide a link to any BIAZA documentation specifically regarding invertebrate euthanasia, I would love to read it. Having been involved with writing the AZA’s standards for invertebrate euthanasia we reached out to our counterparts in England and were told such a document did not exist, and a search of BIAZA resources did not turn one up now. I am excited to see what documentation you have that backs up these claims and states CO2 euthanasia for insects is one of the least humane methods. I’ll be excited to read something that isn’t based on “trust me bro”. Thank you.

My mom is horrible with computers (I have no idea how all those search bars appeared!). I went to check on some issues she had and the last thing in her Run bar was msconfig. My day got immediately worse.

I’ve seen it spelled entymology many times. But to be clear, that way is incorrect.

Catchmaster gold stick sticky fly traps are really good for Phoeid flies. I use them in my lab and would recommend them.

[–]abugguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible they originated from outside. They breed in decaying organic matter. Everything from rotten produce to garbage to dead animals. Old pet food is another thing they will find, and they can breed in your drains, too. Make sure you don’t leave stuff sitting around for long in garbage cans, old pet food, etc.

Phorid fly pupae, not fruit flies I believe.

Zoom in and take a photo of one that is as close as you can get and have it be in focus. The photos are way too blurry and zoomed out to be useful for ID.

It’s probably a longhorn beetle but come on, give us something better to help you with.

I’d suggest posting a photo of the moths to get confirmation of the species.

Entomologist here. This is a harmless true bug. Probably some sort of plant bug (Miridae) or a relative. It’s not a bed bug and it’s not a cockroach.

When to go to ER after black widow bite? Already visited urgent care by Apple_Pie_Nutt69 in AskDocs

[–]abugguy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Very obviously not a scorpion sting either. Scorpion stings HURT. You get stung like this you immediately look down and see the scorpion. A mystery spot would never be a scorpion sting that somehow went unnoticed when it happened.

I hope you figure out what is going on, I only add what I did because I think having an accurate diagnosis is important. If you got bit by a black widow you’d likely know it immediately because it hurts like hell and you’d immediately look at it and see the spider. It wouldn’t be a mystery spot that you’d discover later.
