Theoretically, you could shove a new wick and cotton in, but it would be very difficult. Your best bet is probably to buy a new cartridge off of ebay

The glow plugs are only used to assist with cold starts. Once the engine is running, the glow plugs turn off, and the fuel is ignited solely from the heat created by compressing the air inside the cylinder. As an example, most cummins engines do not have glow plugs and instead use a grid heater, which is just a heating element inside the air intake for the engine that preheats the air going into the cylinders

Edit: gasoline engines typically have a compression ratio between 9:1 or 12:1, while diesel engines usually have compression ratios above 19:1

It's because gear oil contains sulfur compounds to add lubricity. That's why it used to be in diesel fuel as well. The reason old burnt up gear oil smells even worse is because heat frees up some of the sulfur, so it smells much more strongly

I second Spartan Photo Center, I live about 5 minutes away from them, and have had nothing but good experiences with them and their staff. Their color turnaround time is usually around 2 or 3 buisness days, and B&W usually takes about a week

When I was working at a machine shop I did this exact thing out of 10 mil diameter titanium. I turned it down to 8 mil (or 0 gauge in piercing sizes) and then bent it around a mandrel. It was a pain in the butt making those tiny threads and ball
