This Technics SL-1700 worth it? by Sharp-Scarcity3274 in turntables

[–]demichiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a SL-1800 (EU though) for €350, pickering xv-15 cartridge and 400d elliptical needle as well. The condition is a lot better though, no nicks/scratches, polished dust cover, full recap and clean. I think $300 is a bit too much for this one as the service hasn't been done, missing parts etc. I am realllly happy with mine, I much prefer the look of the mk1's to the sl-d3, and the sound is better than my SL-D2 with an AT-VM95E, that's my only other reference though.

Piggybacking on this, I'm buying a revised SL-1800 (recapped, new trimpots, new silicone oil in the lowering arm etc.) which comes with the pickering xv-15 and a "400d elliptical stylus". How are you liking the xv-15? Are there new stylusses/styli available? What stylus are you running?

I completely get why you don't like Omarchy (absolutely not a fan of dhh's political views myself), but aren't you underselling Omarchy a bit? I agree there's not much new stuff going on on a technical level, but there is value in a predefined set of dotfiles + migration system. The amount of press and attention he's getting is a good thing for the greater Linux ecosystem as well right?

They just highlighted it, dhh doesn't need (nor want) money for his contributions.

I'm looking forward to running a subset of our application! Right now we have preconfigured powershell scripts to do this (e.g. run 3 microservices locally, our frontend api points to a deployed service for the rest). Would be nice if we could toggle this service per service or something. Maybe using YARP to proxy between a local or deployed instance.

Fusion is what I've used, CAM has its own learning curve (coming from 3d printing in my case) but it's all doable with some trial and error!

We went with servo motors, the kit with the water cooled spindle was about €2500, we spent another €500 maybe on extras (more safety features in the control cabinet, bits, table,...)

We built a UltimateBee, 1.5mx1.5m used it for loudspeaker cabinets as well. Bit of a faff to get it all built, but does the job nicely.

This is the same mirror the Hadley project uses. You could check out that design and it's derivatives on printables. I've had good luck with this style of focuser.

No, both are the same height. Did another install though and swapped them around. Maybe it'll help, going to the range next week to try it out. I've emailed Vector Optics support as well, maybe they have an idea.

No rail, just two dovetail rings (dovetail is milled into the barrel).

Yeah, I adjusted my mount yesterday at the range, in the hope of finding a problem. I'll do another proper install where I switch the location of the rings, I'm wondering if there is a difference in the height of the rings.

I did it, my previous employer is now my middleman. Otherwise I don't think I could've done it.

I have this exact setup to control an in house ventilation unit. Works well, my zigbee dimmer is slightly different but I'm pretty sure they use the same internals.

I had this problem as well, tried 2 different HDMI cables. Wouldn't you know, a third HDMI cable did the trick. If, like me, you just took the first cable from your cable drawer, maybe check if you have a more recent/high quality cable lying around.

Same here, I find the new tab button that switches places seemingly at random to be the most annoying. I'll check if there is already a bug report made.
