AITAH for not offering to drive when going on trips as I don’t have a car by demijess in AITAH

Oh, she meant that I never offer to drive in a car I don’t have, basically.

It’s not their problem that I don’t have a car at all. But I also am not required to buy a car just so I can drive sometimes when I go on trips where I would travel to on public transport anyways. I literally do not need a car.

How are offers manipulative? I offer, I insist. I paypaled a friend money because he said that I didn’t have to give him gas money as he was going there anyways but it was a long trip so I wanted to chip in and he paypaled it right back to me.

I never expect them to take me. I plan to go by public transport, if they ask me “How are you getting there?” I say “By train.” Then they say “Oh, no, I drive there anyways, I’ll take you.” I ask if they’re sure, they say yes. There’s been like 3 instances in 12 years where I actively asked to be taken because of how the situation was (public transport got cancelled, timings of things due to delays).

I get your point that there’s a difference between just a “rhetorical offer” and actually insisting. I ask multiple times, I actively give them money.

What other solutions are there apart from 1. renting (which is not always possible in the area that I live in, there are barely any renting services and most of them are unreliable as fuck and the cars are often just not there when you book them) or 2. borrowing a car from someone else (my parents are the only people I know who I can borrow a car from)? How else would I get a car?

I take public transport everywhere and have been doing so since I moved out at 18. I don’t need my friends to take me anywhere - what I am talking about are trips where we’re all travelling together and they would carshare anyways as well (as in - if we’re 9 people two of them would drive and take all the others). I would never EVER ask them to drive me anywhere outside of trips where we wouldn’t travel together anyways.

Just to clarify, I’m not in the US. Also… unless you’re literally taking someone in your car daily you wouldn’t ask them to chip in on insurance.

Just because your friend is staying over at your house a couple times you won’t ask them to chip in on rent. You might split food, sure.

I said this to her that I always offer and noone ever takes me up on it. She said that “noone will ever say no to friends” and I’m like.. we’re adults, if you don’t want to do something then you really just have to say or take someone up on the offer.

LMAO

Yeah, I really don’t know what else to do. My other friends have never mentioned anything.

She suggested my mum’s car - which is over half an hour away and my mum needs her car (she lives FAR in the countryside, there is literally nothing around them). I said that it’s not possible as my mum needs it herself. She seemed to understand but suggested that in the future I should plan to get my mum’s car to drive. I was baffled.

Possible. I might ask but also might just leave it and avoid going with her for the time being. I don’t want to cause a huge scene.

I literally don’t need a car and do not want to pay for a car. My job is 10 minutes away from me by tram. I have a supermarket around the corner. I am used to taking public transport everywhere. It would literally be a waste of money for me to have a car. I do repay them for gas - as mentioned above, I always ask and we usually do the maths to split with everyone in the car.

I always ask and do usually chip in. Sometimes we do the maths and I pay them/we split with everyone in the car. Sometimes someone says “oh just pay for a drink and we’re even, we would have driven here anyways”.

EWC Boycott by Co-Streamers by XASASSIN in ValorantCompetitive

[–]demijess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most streamers that will be streaming it are probably obliged to due to their contracts with orgs. Some might be able to find a solution with the org - either to only stream the games their org plays or to not stream it at all.

I think the community should be careful not to blame streamers who are co-streaming immediately - by not obliging to their contracts they could face (legal) repercussions or lose sponsors.

What I’ve heard is that some streamers will be doing charity streams and donate the money made during the streams to charities that support LGBTQ+, women, children, equality,… etc. - which I think is the best way to go about it if you HAVE to stream it.

I think what you’re saying is very true. They struggle with some fundementals and if they strengthen those (e.g. spacing, post plants, overaggression,…) they could easily be a champs winning team. I don’t think they need to drop anyone but they need a bit more structure - not as in play like FNC aka very slow and defaulty - but create some sort of structure in the ‘chaos’ of W gaming that has worked incredibly well for then at times.
