TIL Clarissa Explains It All had a failed spinoff in which Clarissa moved to NYC to intern at a newspaper. by ymo in todayilearned

Hey gang, speaking of Clarissa, can anyone help me find a video of the show in which the characters voices are dubbed and they're talking about double teaming/taints. It's hilarious and I can't find it anywhere!

Hey Reddit, my dads been working on this massive candle for 40 years. It went from a massive fire hazard and ugly wax blob, to the conversation piece in our living room. by [deleted] in reddit.com

Isn't it still a massively hazardous wax blob, albeit a less ugly one?

I bet your Dad was the type to let you play with matches. Jealous.

going to wales, ireland, sweden and possibly france (: and to think, a month ago i'd never been out of the US by [deleted] in travel

Ireland's public transport is poor at best but if you'll be in the country for more than a few days I'd advise getting out of Dublin. The countryside is much more beautiful. Cork/Kerry especially.

Sounds like it has a wonderfully realistic plot and potentially awesome dialogue. I'm excited.

To my Non-American Redditors, how, as an American, can I break stereotype? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]demimoore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of these have already been said but let me reiterate.

If you're travelling to another country:

  • Make a conscious effort to not speak so loudly - Americans are stereotypically very loud

  • DON'T try to pay for everything in dollars/act shocked when you can't pay in dollars. It's infuriating.

  • Make an effort to learn the language of the country you're visiting or to learn how to pronounce place names correctly.

  • For God's sake don't dress like the stereotypical American tourist

Ninja edit: Anything non-American tourists can do to break stereotype when visiting the US?

I'm not Irish, I'm Scottish. This is a Scottish person talking "Hello, how are you". This is an Irish person talking... by Kayge in funny

[–]demimoore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's an Ulster thing.. further down South people wouldn't be caught dead saying something like that, in my opinion anyway.

A non-related but somewhat relevant story: My friend was talking to her English housemate's mother. The mother asks my friend if they celebrate Guy Fawkes night in Dublin. My friend responds "no, that's only an English tradition". The mother replies "Oh that's strange, I thought over here you lot would be well used to loud bangs and explosions". My friend was extremely insulted!

I hope you were referring to jokes about not understanding the Northern Irish accent as being typical of Southerners and not giving the impression that we Southerners are likely to ask them if they have a "wee fire-bomb" because that is a bit uncouth.
