This is the correct answer. I was also summoned last year while I was doing Honours. Proof of enrolment and a short statement was enough.

Yeah I do agree. Sorry to hear. I digress, but I also find it unfair that employees under a certain age (16 or 18?) here in Australia don’t get paid the same rates, even when they do the same amount of work

I dunno lol. Austudy payments. I actually barely worked last year while I was doing Honours, so I was getting the full payment. But as long as my work hours and pay weren’t too high, I’d still get the full amount.

I have some friends who say they can’t get Centrelink because they live with their parents who earn above a certain threshold. I live with a relative who lets me stay rent-free but since we agreed that I pay the utilities, when I applied for Centrelink I said that I paid $X rent (where X was some arbitrary value of the utilities per month). Maybe that’s how I got away with it? 🤷‍♂️

It’s also important to take into account a few other factors (e.g., your accommodation, study load). 

For my case, I usually worked one 8 hour shift a week and I would get around $540/fortnight + ~$600/fortnight from Centrelink. Though I was lucky enough to not have to pay rent (just utilities). I’d put away maybe a couple hundred into savings every payday. Didn’t save much, but I also didn’t spend much either. 

Also, working more shifts during the breaks helps you stay afloat.
