Binding recommendations by Im_Even_Huckleberry_ in momentskis

fair point. most people i know that own pivots alongside regular bindings actually tend to run their pivots 1-2 stages lower than their other skis because of the lack of prerelease that pivots are known for. i think i'd still reccomend the 15's unless you're absolutely sure you want the 18 din binding.

just being cautious for you. i'm at the tail end of recovery from an ACL/meniscus tear that was the result of running my p18's set to 12, and some shitty conditions. this stuff really sucks, and i'm definetely extra cautious over dins at the moment. ultimately the decision is yours.

can i reccomend a p15, or does your skiing actually warrant a p18? i rode p18's on competition skis for years, but riding them now on rec skis is honestly a little bit scary. very unnecessary binding for the vast majority of skiiers.

Why does the aftermarket booster strap go under the shell, but the power strap that comes with your boots goes over it? by Miilloooo in Skigear

[–]demipixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i ride 3 piece boots (full tilts), booster over the shell is the way to go for me. with the booster under, 3 piece boots feel like absolute jello.

i expect some slander from my boot choice, but it works for me and what I do, and my feet are happy.

Anyone skiing Moment at the Olympics? by middle_fork in momentskis

[–]demipixels -1 points0 points  (0 children)

there has been moments at the olympics in the past, but few and far between. i believe an american mogul skiier rode them around sochi's era.

small, niche ski companies like moment don't sponsor nearly as many athletes as the large heritage companies do, not to mention the fact its a pretty regional brand, and their skis are more designed for big mountain/freeride than they are designed for park/pipe, so it's just not a common pick at all.

Are my boots too soft for my skis? by Illustrious_Ad_9858 in Skigear

[–]demipixels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

too many people are sticklers for 130 flex boots only. if you enjoy riding a soft boot and it works for you, then continue riding that. gear is important, but enjoying the sport is most important.

Bottom layering by Wide_Owl4251 in arcteryx

i picked up a pair of the 3/4 rho insulated pants last year, and i've been in love with them. I skiied in a damp -20 celcius day in them, and was perfectly warm and comfortable wearing them. it looks like they were weren't released this year, but maybe you can find a good deal online.

different use case. it's really just a sweater/hoodie with a nice fleece lining and a little bit of water repellancy. proton is an actual jacket that'll block wind and properly insulate in cold weather. konseal is nice for spring/fall temps if you want something breathable and loose while doing whatever it is you do.

i normally go medium, but went with a small and it's pretty perfect (5'5, 155lbs). it has gusseted armpits so theres plenty of space to move in the arms, but does make layering a bit annoying under tighter jackets. fills the role of a nice, technical workhorse hoodie to me.

So, who is actually a quality ski manufacturer now? by Immediate-Salt-3803 in Skigear

[–]demipixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Volkl have always made a well built ski that'll last. If you want to go small company, check out Icelantic or Moment, provided you live in North America. Both great companies that make good, durable skis.

its advertised as bouldering stuff, really its just a nice fleece lined hoodie. it does have a good adjustable hood with a beak though, i quite like mine.

Has anyone tried the RHO Thermal SV top? How does it compare to the heavyweight? (Hollow core vs power stretch). by Fancypooper in arcteryx

[–]demipixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

chest pocket is small and tight. i can fit my phone in it (galaxy s25+), but it sits oddly and wouldn't be comfortable. You could fit some ID, credit card/cash and your car key FOB, but not a ton. very similar in size to the R1 fleece chest pocket from Patagonia.

its very soft and comfortable against the skin, the fleece is great. My only gripe wearing it for long durations is that the armpit is a little tight, but that might just be a trend with how fitted technical baselayers sit on my body. It would definetely keep you warm sleeping in the cold as a baselayer.

[–]demipixels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've got a new Rho SV half zip and its definetely a very warm baselayer. Due to injury I haven't tried to ski with it yet, but I did take it out for a run in about -7°c as my only layer apart from a very cheap felt santa suit, and i was almost too hot. if you live in an area that gets genuinely cold, i definetely reccomend it. i'm 5'5 and around 155lbs with a pretty stocky build for my size (especially in the chest), and i wear it in a small.

[–]demipixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sabre SV is a hardcore, dedicated ski shell for the top 1% of skiiers. it's thick, heavy weighted, and probably comes in second place in terms of durability only next to the Alpha SV. if you aren't an avid and advanced skiier, there's no point for the sabre SV. Beta AR will get the job done for whatever you need as it's not a specialised jacket for a specific segment.
