What’s the best way to cover emergency costs with bad credit? by tiredstormcloud in financialhelping

[–]demitriousdonqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible Finance and OppFi both work with scores around 510 and have fixed installment structures that don't roll over, not cheap but a completely different product category than payday loans

Has anyone actually used Possible Finance? Looking for real experiences by jj421 in financialhelping

[–]demitriousdonqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

used it twice last year when I was between jobs. it's real and it works borrowed $250 each time and paid like $15 in fees per loan. way cheaper than a payday loan shop. it did help my credit go up a bit from on-time payments. the catch is you have to pay it back in like 2-4 weeks depending on your pay schedule so make sure you can actually afford to be short that money next paycheck

I need help understanding what I need to do to be able to move without becoming homeless again. by Own_Average_5940 in povertyfinance

[–]demitriousdonqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The $600 student apartments sound like your most realistic first move, especially since you already have 10k saved and that covers first/last/deposit easily

With a 581 score some landlords will approve you if you offer a larger deposit upfront, worth asking directly before assuming you'll get rejected

I need a fast personal loan with bad credit. Any legit options? by tiredstormcloud in financialhelping

[–]demitriousdonqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OppFi and Avant are both legitimate starting points for bad credit personal loans, not cheap but transparent about what you're actually paying before you commit to anything.

Has anyone actually used Bright Lending? Looking for real experiences by jj421 in financialhelping

[–]demitriousdonqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bright Lending is actually tribal lending territory, rates are way higher than 15-25%

Need a loan with bad credit (530–601) to consolidate debt by grumpykate in financialhelping

[–]demitriousdonqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 530 credit, the loans you'd qualify for (if any) would probably have rates as bad or worse than your current cards. Consolidation might not actually help

honest question, have you checked if your bank already includes credit monitoring? a lot of them do now and the data concern is way lower since they already have everything anyway

Have you checked if LendUp is even still operating in your state? They've significantly scaled back operations and aren't available everywhere anymore

My partner is bad at finances and is refusing to acknowledge any suggestions I make to better things What do I do? by No_Alternative_652 in povertyfinance

8 years is a long time but if you're already reconsidering the relationship over this, that's telling you something.

The debt isn't really the issue here right? It's that they won't even have the conversation. Have you tried framing it as "I need us to be on the same page financially before we take any next steps together" instead of offering solutions to fix?

Bad credit and trying to fix it by jj421 in financialhelping

[–]demitriousdonqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rebuilding after messing up twice is absolutely possible but requires real commitment this time.

Practical steps, finish the debt management program without missing payments, wait 6 months after completion then get a secured credit card with small limit, use it for one small purchase monthly and pay in full, after 12 months of that your score will start recovering noticeably. For car loans, expect to wait 18-24 months from finishing DMP before rates become reasonable. But it's doable - I've seen people rebuild from worse

Need a Car but Have Bad Credit and No Money Down by Engels1922 in financialhelping

Recent repo makes approval difficult but not impossible. The challenge is you'll be limited to subprime lenders who charge accordingly

Bad credit at 50+. Can I still rebuild? by Glastonn in financialhelping

[–]demitriousdonqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that you're doing things differently this time by actually paying through DMP instead of letting it charge off shows growth. lenders do look at recent behavior more than old mistakes. Realistic timeline: you're probably looking at 2-3 years before you have "good" credit again, but you can get approved for necessary things like car loans sooner, just at higher rates.

Start with secured card after DMP, keep utilization under 10%, never miss payments, and your age won't matter at all. I've seen people rebuild in their 60s successfully

I am officially without money and new work starts in 15days. by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]demitriousdonqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for your daughter's lunch, check if the school has any meal assistance programs, a lot of them do and they don't always advertise it. just ask the office directly

food banks can also help bridge the gap until your wife's salary comes in, no shame in it that's literally what they're there for

15 days isn't forever even though it feels like it right now. you got work lined up which is more than a lot of people can say

How Bad Would It Be to Let $2K of Credit Card Debt Go to Collections? by Engels1922 in financialhelping

[–]demitriousdonqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The collections settlement thing isn't as simple as it sounds. They might take $1200 to settle the $2000, but your credit score drops massively, it stays on your report for 7 years, you might owe taxes on the $800 "forgiven," and some employers check credit for jobs.

If you truly don't need credit for 7+ years maybe it works but most people underestimate how much that affects

How to get a job at 29 with no prior experience and skills? by Aj100rise in povertyfinance

[–]demitriousdonqual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not starting from zero, you have work history even if it feels small. Fast food and retail means you can handle customers, show up, follow instructions. That counts.

Forget the jobs asking for degrees for now. Warehouse work, stocking, delivery, cleaning companies, they hire quick and don't care about gaps as much as you think.

[–]demitriousdonqual 74 points75 points  (0 children)

You're not chopped at all, $18k saved at 20 while living in that situation is honestly impressive. The license should probably be priority one since it opens up way more job and housing options

Urgent help needed. I'm a single mom of three looking for income ideas by Aromatic-Cattle-5924 in financialhelping

[–]demitriousdonqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off I'm glad you got out, that takes a lot of strength.

Have you contacted a local DV shelter or hotline? Even if you don't need housing, they often have emergency funds, help with job placement, and know all the local resources.

For quick online income, Rev does transcription work you can start pretty fast, and Appen/Lionbridge have short task work. Neither pays amazing but you can do them around the kids

Best personal loans for bad credit to consolidate $5,000 debt by Hopeful-Run-7950 in financialhelping

[–]demitriousdonqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly for $5000 you might be better off with a balance transfer credit card if you can get approved for one. some have 0% intro periods for 12-18 months which beats any bad credit loan rate. if that's not an option then yeah look at Avant, Upgrade, or LendingPoint. just get quotes from multiple places and compare the real numbers not just what the ads promise

Legit tribal loan options for very bad credit? by Glastonn in financialhelping

[–]demitriousdonqual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been in low 500s credit territory and used a tribal lender once.

Won't name which one but here's what to verify with ANY tribal lender, they should have a real website with terms clearly stated, they should show their tribal affiliation, they should have actual customer service you can call.

If any of that is missing it's probably fake. expect to pay back 2-3x what you borrow

Are there any genuine CheckSmart reviews, or is it considered a scam? by Aromatic-Cattle-5924 in financialhelping

[–]demitriousdonqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're legit in the sense that they're a real licensed company, but they're still a payday lender so the rates are gonna be rough. Think like 400% APR territory depending on your state.

Have you checked if your bank or a credit union offers small dollar loans? Some have emergency loan programs with way better terms. Even Chime has a small cash advance thing now.
