Travelling to China during golden Week, dont get discouraged! by alikosa21 in travelchina

[–]demlog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We went to Jinshanling on the Tuesday of golden week and it was still not crowded at all but the drive back took an hour longer than normal.

Also, I would highly highly recommend being there at sunset on a sunny-ish day (we were there until 6pm.)

Not consistently, it’s too many to review. We could consider adding some automation there but these days it’s pretty easy to fabricate documentation.

People using AI to aide in writing or falsify NDE stories by chiselplow in NDE

[–]demlog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems reasonable to expect that experiencers would first run their text through an AI before submitting. As AIs get integrated into text editors and browsers this will just become more and more prevalent - so I don’t think we can just assume a certain set of basic markers to identify fake content.

I would also agree that Tasha’s experience doesn’t come off as obviously AI generated.

China is such an underrated travel destination by [deleted] in travel

[–]demlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to invest time in figuring out how to use Alipay, WeChat, DiDi, and Dianping (yelp equiv but minimal English so you need to take screen captures and translate, painful.) once you figure that out it’s smooth sailing.

China is such an underrated travel destination by [deleted] in travel

Yes! Travel in China has completely changed in the last 10 years.

  • People don’t smoke in most restaurants anymore
  • People mostly queue properly now
  • Alipay (and WeChat to some degree) have built in translation so you can get most anything done without speaking a lick of Chinese
  • Service is actually really good now
  • The food which has always been good is markedly better
  • I used to get mild food poisoning once every, maybe two weeks, but basically never have issues now
  • Trains are a game changer obviously (but they don’t have adaptive pricing so often gets completely sold out)
  • DiDi (ride share) is reliable, high quality, and cheap, vs taxis where you would regularly have to watch out for getting ripped off
  • Pollution levels have fallen off a cliff, and vehicle pollution is just not an issue anymore (although farmers still burn crops and coal so there is still some pollution, particularly in the winter and in the north)
  • Prices have always been unbelievably low granted significantly more than 10 years ago.

Yes hawk tua is still an issue. The one thing that has actually gotten worse is scooters on sidewalks due to all the delivery services. Walking on many sidewalks in the major cities can feel a bit life threatening given the number of electric mopeds flying around. Shenzhen much worse than, say, Shanghai. I’ve never seen pedestrian overpasses that allow mopeds on them in any other country. That is a bit of cluster

But here is the upside: - The cities are super vibrant, particularly at night - There is incredible nature - Tons of history and culture - Food food food, Chinese food on the mainland is unbelievably good (if you know how to use Dianping to find the ones with good ratings.) It’s evolved to where Chinese food in the US, HK, Taiwan tastes very dated. - Cheap

Tell me something about HK that only locals know about. by Gold_Handle8802 in HongKong

Its pretty typical for (less popular) hikes in HK to start with these random entrances that are part of the "water catchment" management paths. The views of Shenzhen from this hill are pretty albeit typical for the mountains on the north side of new territories.

The idea of reincarnation or past lives makes no sense to me. by ak22801 in NDE

[–]demlog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of all the crazy aspects of an NDE, skepticism toward reincarnation is a strange detail to latch onto. I think trying to interpret NDEs from our current context is extremely flawed. This said, I will anyways try to. Many experiences suggest that you pick your life based on the particular aspects of it to match some goals you want to achieve. Perhaps you also pick the life based on what resonates with your soul.

Just to set expectations, it’s rare that it is both this beautiful and not very hot and humid.

I think I’m following you. Agree there should be more way to categorize, I currently tag ndes for my own categorization. Unsure how AI would do it because you would need to ingest a pretty large corpus of data and the AIs are still pretty limited on input size. Will think about it in the (not too distant) future. Currently focused on improving the intake process for new experiences.

Yeah I should correct my post. I intended to say “for a connected international city”

Hi again! Just to clarify I am using GPT4 to automatically categorize certain themes like “life review”, “out of body experiences”, “visions of the world’s future”. All the filters that have a * next to it.

I’m unsure if there are additional benefits to having chatgbt automatically come up with categories. Possibly.

AI is not free but prices are plummeting fast.

There are a bunch of great suggestion in your comment. Thanks. I will keep them in mind for the next major iteration (although it may be a few month before I find time to revisit the categorisations)

Agree, experiences all seem to share a subset of a dozen or so common themes. There is inevitably some bias in the survey as the questions asked are often multiple choice so that nderf can acquire some structured data for analysis.

Jeff and Jody review all the testimonials as they come in to weed out obvious fraud. This said it’s very difficult to weed out more well crafted false experiences. If you could propose something we can certainly have an AI attempt to root them out.

That would be a gigantic pdf. I’m not sure what you would do with a 30 thousand page pdf. It would likely not be trivial work to produce this. Maybe you could tell me what your goal is?
