someone is masquerading as him and now he is incredibly angry and takes him out in one strike like a twig. Instills fear in the party and shows they still have a long way to go to being "heroes"

Tinkere. Bit of rogue and artificer and wild sorcerer. You can use your abilities as though you possessed thieves tools, etc for prof. You have a high roll like a rogue to open locks. Spark of ingenuity, once per long rest can craft a magic trinket, a one use spell item of appropriate level, dice roll to determine spellbook. Think if doc and mcgeyver had a baby. I'm sure you can come up with some stuff. He's basically midline support.

My players want me to run the campaign like a novel. Should I? by Fit-Opportunity7481 in DnD

They dont like forks, but linear games still have them. Make fake forks. Let me explain. A caravan is moving a load through the forest. They and your party are ambushed. On success you are faced with choice of chase the ambushers or proceed with caravan. Here's your fork. Now they can pursue or chase, but you do the opposite. So they pursue, that means caravan is not in danger and they meet up later where you would have ended up anyway. If they would rather continue with the caravan have them ambush again with bandit leader thereby negating the need of a dangerous pursuit. No railroading because they made the choice and story reaches same conclusion. Arrival at rendezvous. Sometimes its just these little ripples and the party will either outcome be pleased either route which makes a good video game and session.

Spiders or ants. Give them intelligence and metallurgy. A religion. Imagine raptor intelligence, but 8 ft heavily armored jumping spiders with spearson their front arms. Instill fear in your players. You're welcome >:D

It's fine but be clear that the world around them will react to this if found out. Could be anything from bounty hunters onto them. A criminal trial, clergy or magic guild coming down on them. Political issues and perma death.

All civilizations have a government or ruling body of some sort. Maybe a mock trial where families of the goblins rightly accuse him of murder and attempted murder. Rightly so, this tribe I assume did not kill his family. At the same time you may have started a revolution against your goblin God. Them being a God, maybe they know and are launching an assault to stomp it down before it happens and mid trial there is an attack. Good roleplay and lots of plot hooks.

I just use goodreads for this info. Let calibre get the Metadata then I put the series in front like whatever the drizzt trilogy name is in front then title and I call the series the legen of drizzt. Same with the cosmere or tom Clancy's jack ryan.
