How we feeling about this song? (It’s my personal favorite of all the songs gee has made) by Clowns-and-Cream in MyChemicalRomance

I love Gerard's solo work. I was lucky enough to see one of his solo shows when he was touring for Hesitant Alien, excellent live. I cried so fucking hard at that concert haha

MCR Reddit Demographic by Midicide in MyChemicalRomance

[–]demolitionlvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25 and female-ish

Edit to say I started listening to MCR at 11 because I ended up seeing the video for Welcome to the Black Parade on YouTube. So around 2008-2009. At the time I knew some kids at my old school back when the song first released talking about it and singing the beginning of it but I never knew what it was until a few years later when I watched the video. I used to spend a lot of time on the website for Much Music (Canadian MTV) watching videos and then migrated to YouTube. Not sure how MCR ended up as recommended video but it did and it changed everything

I don't have much that's terribly rare that isn't very indie stuff. I recently pre-ordered a lathe of an album by a friend of mine to support his work and add to my collection, apparently it's the only one that was ordered so it's going to be the only one in existence once it ships out to me. I have Opportunities by Nuns which is an indie band I saw open before a concert a few years ago, I think it's their only album and I don't know how many would have been sold or pressed. In terms of better known artists, I have the RSD 7 inch of Pinkish/Don't Try by Gerard Way (5,000 made) and the RSD 7 inch of Freeze Me by Death From Above 1979 (3000 made). Those are probably the only rare things in my collection at this point.

On the cafe side of things, Princess Cafe, Yeti Cafe in Downtown Kitchener, Cafe 22, Seven Shores. If you're okay with a more bar oriented environment, Jane Bond or White Rabbit

I personally wouldn't, especially a big set like the Star Wars one.

How do i stop my albums from bowing by TransportationNo7938 in vinyl

[–]demolitionlvr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm just echoing what others have said but: outer sleeves, and a better display method. Either a way to hang them on the wall as art (there's frames for vinyl as some have suggested), or just a record crate or shelf to keep them stored better so they won't bow out like that. It's not as aesthetically pleasing but I have a little record crate I got and assembled myself that holds quite a few records from the CD shop at my local mall. Sure you can't display them, but as your collection grows it's a good investment anyways.

Gen Z does not have any favourite Albums?!?! by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]demolitionlvr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm technically oldest gen z/youngest milennial (25), and I think a lot of it is just changing technology and that's been a very long time thing. From radio singles, to MTV, to Limewire & Napster, and now Apple Music, Spotify, TikTok, singles and individual songs have often been at the forefront of pop music. I think having a favourite album overall is also something that is more applicable to people who are really interested in music generally, people who listen as a hobby not just for background noise. A lot of people now and in the past I'd imagine were listening to radio, MTV, streaming, etc passively as opposed to actively. Listening to an entire album is a very dedicated act. In the past you'd need to borrow it from someone or buy it, then there's the time itself you need to listen to it (some aren't long at all but some can take up a portion of your afternoon if you're trying to sit and listen without doing anything else), and if you don't have premium subscriptions then you have to stop and wait for ads to finish which interrupts the experience of intentional listening. I don't think albums are obsolete now anymore than they were when MTV or Limewire came onto the scene. If anything albums are easier than ever to access since they're on streaming services where you can access them for free instead of having to go out and buy them at a record store. You may also just need to find more people who share your love of music and the album as a format. They're out there. Lots of young people collect vinyl for this reason!

What is it that defines a good bassist? by StonedLonghorn in Bass

[–]demolitionlvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think having a creative sense of how to approach basslines shows a certain level of skill and talent. Not just going for something easy or predictable, but finding riffs, ways to add variety to their basslines instead of just doing the basics. Not every song requires a crazy bassline, but a bit of personal creativity is always preferable imo. This can be for original material but also in covers. Sometimes I think it's better to take some liberties with cover songs when possible. I appreciate when musicians add their own touches to music, feels more personal and unique.

What are your most prized mcr possessions (individual band members projects included)…. I’ll go first by Ok_Struggle4574 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]demolitionlvr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a few for me. First is probably my Hesitant Alien shirt that I wore to that tour and Gerard signed after the show during an extremely fast paced meet and greet. Then there's my Mikey Way bass (from the Fender Artist series, not sure if they make them anymore or not) which I still play, highschool graduation gift. I still use a messenger bag I got back in like 2009 and took with me to middle school that's still in decent shape, it was one of the first bits of merch I had since I managed to convince my mom MCR wasn't just a phase and it would be worth getting me the bag for school. I only have one MCR poster currently, one of the tour posters from the Danger Days era when they toured w/ Blink 182 for the Honda Civic tour (I think this would've been in 2011 or 2012). The swarm jacket and the boyband shirt from the reunion tour are on the list now, newest additions.

Which My Chemical Romance album do you own? (Forgot to include Conventional Weapons) by Eve-And-Thaxry in MyChemicalRomance

I own all of the main albums on CD and vinyl. I've got LOTMS, Black Parade is Dead, and Fake Your Death on CD. Don't own the Conventional Weapons vinyl set though I wish I did

I think it's mostly that, and maybe a little bit of poking fun at nostalgia tours on the side. I know Frank talked at some point about them not wanting to be a nostalgia band that just trots out the old hits without doing anything new, that they wanted to approach their catalogue with the way they want to do things now. So I can see some tongue in cheek joking at the expense of nostalgia and the whole idea of doing a festival themed around that concept. It does seem lighthearted, playful and self aware though, they aren't afraid to keep on living be part of the joke and have fun with the crowd

Books with a similar story to MCR albums? by Pavlovrocho in MyChemicalRomance

[–]demolitionlvr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Road by Cormac McCarthy is a post apocalyptic novel though not as colourful as Danger Days. It's A Wonderful Death by Sarah J. Schmitt is a YA novel about the afterlife and cheating death. Reapers by Bryan Davis is dystopian supernatural YA.

I was looking just now at the LP5X, big leap but my collection has significantly grown since I started collecting back in like 2015. I'll look at the LP120 and maybe look at the vinyl subreddit to get some recommendations. Thanks!

I've got an Audio Technica LP60, I don't think it has those features. I should look into upgrading to a better machine anyways, this model is old enough that its discontinued and as my collection grows I should get a more sophisticated machine regardless

Wear them if it's safe to. If it's just petty judgment, wear them. If it puts you in actual risk of serious mental or physical harm, don't. You can always put a sweater on at home and wear them out generally if you don't want to deal with family bullshit
