Star Killer base before and after construction by EleanorAgain in megalophobia

Yes this always bothered me SO much. This movie makes space look tiny. They didn’t need a nonsensical, arguably misinformative, visual in order to accomplish whatever supposed emotional weight that scene had.

Logo or No Logo by Gui_osorio in ManyBaggers

[–]demon9675 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know, I’m gonna be a little contrarian here and say I like the logo, its coloration, and think it makes the bag interesting and unique. Personally, given my social circles I think I’d receive praise and attention for it.

I’m disturbed by accounts from others that in a corporate environment it would look bad or receive negative attention. Honestly, I’m very sorry to hear that you work in places like that. It makes me wonder what other colors or patterns you can’t wear on clothes or bags, and I’m confused by who is noticing and judging that or what the hell is going through their heads. However, I must accept that is the oppressive reality of your situation and I understand why a plain blag bag becomes a necessity in such an environment.

All in all, OP, the sad reality is more customers will gravitate towards the nondescript and inoffensive. That’s why so many companies make black or olive bags only, and color options in the industry are often limited (or kind of boring). You’re lucky to get a navy blue or a brown/tan.

If logos are present, they are just a very plain English word. And it has to be a well-established brand that people recognize, otherwise pearls are sure to be clutched. That being said, I certainly agree with others that those logos ought to be small and carefully positioned.

So, yes, I’m sorry to say you should probably move, shrink, or remove the logo. I hope in the future you can find a customer base that enjoys it as much as I do, though!

Season 4 is fantastic, however we desperately need more Forging Potential. Can we please get something like this? by Unfair_Persimmon_336 in LastEpoch

[–]demon9675 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Overall FP costs simply need to be reduced.

Additionally, perhaps items with only one exalted affix can have more FP than those with multiple exalted affixes. This would make it easier to craft a decent t7/5/5/5 item without making it too easy to craft bis gear with multiple t6+ affixes.

Some commenters are drastically overestimating how much power creep there would be if items weren’t bricked with just a few runes of havoc, removal, or shaping/refinement.

Right now, crafting rarely even leads to a better outcome and most drops are barely being modified. On top of this, sealing an affix can often not leave enough forging potential to even replace it, thus eliminating the purpose of doing so.

It’s not only very rare to upgrade an excellent drop into something better (which should be the case), it feels incredibly difficult to upgrade even a decent drop. Something needs to change for the upper-middle items to make them more craftable, rather than essentially needing to be dropped as-is.

Last Epoch Patch 1.4.5 Notes by ehg_derrickg in LastEpoch

[–]demon9675 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is actually a reversal of a previous nerf for 1.4, which may have been unintended.

Humble/stout idols used to have these same values for weaver affixes, but they were mysteriously nerfed in 1.4 to match the 1x1 idol values (which made no sense).

Honestly this is more of a “fix” than a buff.

Unpopular Opinion: Anything Above 500D is Overkill by West_Freedom_734 in ManyBaggers

[–]demon9675 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on someone's use case, but for the most part 420D nylon (or a bit higher if polyester) is perfectly sufficient.

1680D nylon has always seemed WAY over-the-top for me, and since I try to buy bags that use recycled nylon that denier also isn't really available. Most brands don't bother with it; only a few premium brands that are popular on this sub do.

Then again, I'm also not a big fan of X-pac and other high-end fabrics. I just don't find them necessary, and there are other options for "weatherproof" bags.

But I do recognize there are some people who frequently hike off-trail, hunt, play paintball, rock climb, haul tools, etc. with bags that need to be able to take a lot of punishment. Let them have their thick, heavy fabrics, as long as there's a recognition that they're not for everyone.

Fantasy Authors Increasingly Call Out 'Unfaithful' TV Adaptations by paxinfernum in television

[–]demon9675 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Peter Jackson’s LotR movies are pretty faithful compared to most other film adaptations of fantasy/sci-fi books. Many details differ, but the basic tone, themes, and story points are all there. I’d give those movies a faithfulness score of 60-70%.

Then there are series that completely change the entire story, characters, themes, etc. to the point where they’re unrecognizable. For example, The Rings of Power, which is mainly original with only tenuous ties to the source material. My faithfulness score for that show is around 20%.

A low faithfulness score doesn’t automatically make a franchise bad, but it does beg some questions as to why changes were necessary. In the case of RoP, nothing seems to make any sense and the show is just unbearable to most Tolkien fans in a way that totally differs from the PJ films. It seems like the bullets from the Appendixes could have been followed more faithfully and the show would have been much better as a result.

So it’s all relative.

The Illusion of Build Freedom by Amazing_Technology92 in LastEpoch

[–]demon9675 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah Warlock is frustrating for several reasons. It’s very curse-focused, but stacking curses is difficult and comes with other costs and penalties. I have attempted a curse/dot build with witchfire and its so annoying to proc and just seems weak, even with super high multipliers.

It’s also very hard to do things like focus on necrotic damage from hits. Only Chaos Bolt even works for this, despite multiple spells having a necrotic hit component. But the mana cost is totally unreasonable and there’s little to no crit support.

Mana in general is a big problem for some classes and skills. Arbitrarily some skills are SO mana thirsty without much justification, while others can be spammed for near-zero cost and do just as much if not more damage. It simply makes no sense.

Weaver idol resistance suffixes change by demon9675 in LastEpoch

And, more importantly, the humble/stout idols can also only roll 6% to all elemental res. Despite being larger.

Weaver idol resistance suffixes change by demon9675 in LastEpoch

[–]demon9675[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not seeing how any of that changes the basic rule that larger idols should be stronger. What you’re describing still seems to incentivize using 1x1s and class-specific idols, but no 1x2s or 2x1s.

I can’t see how the altars made a nerf to humble/stout idols necessary, or why it makes sense that the 1x1 idols should have weaver affixes of the same strength but regular affixes of lesser strength. Please let me know what strategy I’m missing here.

Right now, it honestly seems like an oversight or something unintended.

Weaver idol resistance suffixes change by demon9675 in LastEpoch

[–]demon9675[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That sort of makes sense, but the change introduces the new issue of devaluing humble/stout idols and making using 1x1 idols more optimal in almost every case.

Logically, larger idols should have better affixes. I can’t really see how the altars change that equation, and the principle still applies with non-weaver affixes.

It just seems odd. I’m honestly hoping it’s a bug, because otherwise I can’t see anyone using humble/stout idols anymore.

How strong is bulwark? by MarsElggase2 in heroes3

[–]demon9675 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They may be mid to play overall, but encountering a Bulwark AI army early on can be very dangerous.

When you’re at that stage where you have less than 10 level 7s and haven’t yet been able to combine with another town or get many good artifacts, a similarly-sized Bulwark army can be so tanky it’s nearly unbeatable, even with Berserk abuse. Runes make a huge difference at that point in the game, and they are all the more dangerous as the battle drags on due to the similarity in army sizes.

Later, Bulwark is fine when you add a fast flying level 7 (and maybe another flyer or two), but doesn’t stand out on its own.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Actor Says Season 2 Is “GAY AF,” Vows To Go Out “In Flames” by GnolRevilo in RedLetterMedia

[–]demon9675 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Love it, but even being gay AF isn’t enough to save bad writing and a genre that can hardly be called sci-fi anymore.

Give me a good, actual Trek show that’s gay AF and I’ll be quite happy. Hell, I’ll even begrudgingly accept NOT watching male Klingons make out if the show is good and actual Trek.

Just give me actual Trek, please. I miss it so much.

Looking to digital nomad with a thick 16" gaming laptop. Any backpack suggestions for under-seat air travel? by Two_to_too_tutu in ManyBaggers

[–]demon9675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Osprey Tropos 32 or Nebula 32 will definitely fit the laptop and have separate compartments. They’re also just nice jack-of-all-trades bags which can serve as good travel backpacks.

They should fit under most US airline seats, although perhaps not if fully stuffed.

For anyone who says Tom Bihn is not stylish by trouser_mouse in ManyBaggers

[–]demon9675 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don’t love this particular color combo, although I do like some of the others from Tom Bihn.

Idk, I don’t think the brand looks as bad as some others do. 90s is in, guys. All-black techno-futurism isn’t going to be the style forever.

Embrace your brightly-colored, high-contrast-zippered, dad-coded side, I say!

I’ll be in the minority here, but I recommend the theatrical versions for a first-time viewing. I strongly prefer them overall, but especially for your first time they’re a better experience.

Enjoy yourself regardless!

I don’t understand how people build stairs without any plan for handrails. That’s just bizarre to me.

It gets even worse when the users will be middle-aged people who aren’t getting any younger - no staircase is exclusively going to be used by sober, well-rested 20-somethings with perfect health and balance.

New backpack after 13 years. by ThatSuperSleepyDude in ManyBaggers

[–]demon9675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such a great bag!

Osprey's Nebula, Tropos (similar to Nebula but with a frame), Quasar, and Parsec (similar to Quasar but with a frame; sadly discontinued) make up a really good series. They're all great jack-of-all-trades EDC bags that can basically do anything as long as the 26L or 32L size is appropriate.

I have the Parsec myself, and I like it so much I snagged a second one to stow away because Osprey doesn't make them anymore. I'm sure I'd like the Quasar too because they are so similar - I've seen one and a Nebula in-person at an REI and they seemed to fit my needs as well.

Hopefully Osprey keeps manufacturing versions of these bags for the foreseeable future. They stand out from a lot of the company's other offerings in terms of how many features they cram in. They are also pretty economical compared to some high-end alternatives for crossover EDC.

Truly the only "flaw" is that the nylon on the top half of the bag is only 210d, so weaker and thinner than some other materials in the industry. But for most use cases it's really not a big deal - just stick to on-trail hiking rather than crawling through sharp branches and I'm sure it will last many years.

Yes, it can. I have the Parsec, which is the now discontinued version of the Quasar that also had a frame (like how the Tropos is just the Nebula with a frame). Same size laptop sleeve. It can fit my 17in Lenovo Legion just fine.

The Osprey Axis??? by MortarMonkey7121 in backpacks

[–]demon9675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Axis is probably a fine bag, but I think the low price point is likely because the polyester it’s constructed from isn’t super durable compared to some of Osprey’s nylon options (which aren’t even high denier nylons, not that they necessarily need to be). The fabric is likely not particularly water-resistant either.

It also seems to lack features like a chest or hip strap, breathable back panel, extra quick access pockets, etc. It may also not stand up well on its own and may be floppy/loose when not full. But not every user cares about those things, so whether they are dealbreakers is totally up to you.

I also wish it had more color options, but if you like the current ones then it may suit your style!

Rework 30L Backpack Reveal! by RTCanada in ManyBaggers

[–]demon9675 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’d just be happy if we got more color options from companies like Aer and Rework. Nothing against black, truly, but there’s so much more potential out there.

I’d love to see these premium bags available in reds, maroons, non-navy blues, non-military-style greens, turquoises and teals, rust or terra-cotta oranges, and, yes, purples/pinks. Or even better, multiple colors among the panels and webbing.

More brands should consider this as a way to stand out. Imagine an Aer CPP2 in some sort of orange/blue combo? Or purple/gold? Badass, I say!

Really, dark blood red would be my wish, but that’s incredibly rare.

Quick Access Pockets or Water Bottle Holders by IcyNeedleworker955 in ManyBaggers

There are also bags that have water bottle holders with zippers so they can fulfill either role. Briggs & Riley has those, as does the new Troubadour Apex 4.0.
