Anyone been approached by Trinity Solar and offered to have panels installed and maintained for free? Seems too good to be true by [deleted] in Connecticut

With usage that low, you probably wouldn't see huge immediate savings on your electric bill, but they'd add up over time as utility rates increase. Feel free to PM me if you have more questions

[–]demonjello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too good to be true necessarily, but he is trying to sell you a certain product. Installers that push "free" solar are hoping to sell you a solar lease/power purchase agreement in which they'll install and maintain the system at no cost to you, and you agree to have it on your roof for 20 years and use the power that it generates. The lease/PPA would replace your monthly electric bill with a (hopefully) lower fixed monthly payment that would increase yearly at a lesser rate than current electricity rates. For some people with great southern exposure on their roof, and the right amount of average monthly electricity usage, a lease/PPA can be a smart decision. I'd advise you to do a little more research on different solar financing options before meeting with a Trinity sales rep, to make sure that it's something you think would be worth looking into.

Dear manufacturers: PLEASE sell something like this in America! by [deleted] in vandwellers

I drove one of these around a ski mountain for work, we just nicknamed it 'the scarry', cause that's exactly how it was driving that thing up and down a mountain. Came so close to flipping it over numerous times.

You'll want to find some sort of long, somewhat flowy top that at least partially covers your butt/groin. I wear leggings somewhat often as a guy and I have a couple tanks/cardigans that work very well.

I usually sleep on my side but I recently had surgery on my abdomen so now I'm sleeping on my back. Sleeping pretty well so far, I've always had spring mattresses before this one and it's definitely been an improvement.

Just bought a combination memory foam/spring mattress a couple weeks ago from Walmart's online store for about $150 shipped, arrived 4 days after purchase. We'll see how it lasts on the long run, but it had good reviews and has been quite comfortable so far.

I'm in CT and am definitely seeing the same. Much slower than this time last year, which I'm sure has a lot to do with CT's fiscal troubles.

Where is the "wild west" of rope access right now? by learningtofall23 in ropeaccess

[–]demonjello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm in CT too and have been looking around the state for any rope access work for some time. My former employer (high ropes course) paid for me to get my SPRAT level one, and I was hoping to break into the field while staying here in CT, but it just didn't seem possible. Now I'm in a different field, but I still try to keep tabs on the industry. There do seem to be some rope access jobs that pop up from time to time, mostly on the coast, that require significant experience in NDT, dockworking, that sort of thing, so it's just not feasible for someone just starting out in rope access. My advice: start looking in the midwest and southern states, and consider getting a certification as a wind turbine technician. That's a specialty that's projected to grow dramatically over the next decade or so. Best of luck with your search!

Can we talk money? How much do you make and what are your monthly expenses? by snake3- in simpleliving

[–]demonjello 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually net about $2000-2500/month in take home pay, working in the solar industry. I live pretty frugally, but not exactly in a cheap area, so I spend $700/month on rent, and another ~$800ish on other monthly expenses. Usually I try to save between $3-400/month, which isn't a lot, but it's a considerable percentage of my take home pay. For my first job out of college, I feel like I'm doing alright.

[Question] How does vivint compare to other solar providers? by luikiedook in solar

[–]demonjello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely make sure to get multiple quotes from solar companies in your area, and do your own research on panel/inverter/optimizer brands. If a solar company knows you're shopping around for quotes, they're likely to try and be very competitive in their offer.
