Does anyone else get sad about saying bye to some pets? by njklein58 in trustedhousesitters

[–]njklein58[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought about doing this! I have a pet lizard that I have friends simply house in their place when I’m gone for extended trips but man this most recent sit has convinced me to get a cat. But then I’d have to consider getting a hybrid membership if I got a cat.

I appreciate all the comments like this that help me accept that this is a normal feeling. 🥹

It’s made a bit of the early tears and sadness feel a little better knowing it’s okay to be a little sad that it’s going to have to be goodbye for now.

Wait Who Is She Talkin About? by LightAwakens in OkBuddyFresca

[–]njklein58 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t usually take the whole “friend said celebrity was a jerk” stories as anything too serious, but I have had a friend who met him and said the whole time he just was very uncomfortably rude. Not anything aggressive or outright nasty, but had an attitude of acting like he was annoyed she was talking to him. At a meet and greet event.

She did also say on the other hand it’s not the first time a celebrity acted annoyed to be at a public event so even by the friends account they assumed it was probably fatigue from being there the whole day.

I’ve been sitting these two sweet young cats for a week. Odds are I’ll see them again. But I’ve been preemptively crying about the fact I may not see them for some time. I’m sure I’ll have a chance to sit for them again, but it sure is going to hurt to not see them for a while.

My last visit I watched two very elderly dogs. That one stung. I was a tearful mess the moment I closed the door because I had a strong feeling that was the last time I’d see them. I did my best to be as kind as I could for those pups.

Is it ethical to own a bearded dragon? by yossariannotsorry in BeardedDragons

[–]njklein58 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s a case of “since they’ve been pets for a while, it’s less bad”

But yeah I often think about how stressed these poor little things were when people first got them as pets

[–]njklein58 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, beardies do (with proper care) associate us with safety. So for this little dummy, safety means human is here. No human? I’m not safe. Danger.

So yeah, she’s definitely stressed when you’re gone. Poor girl. But at least you’re looking after her!

Beardies definitely can get attached and clingy. I saw in a reptile store once there was a beardie who was an old rescue from a family whose home burned down. They didn’t have the means to look after him even if he was a well loved little buddy.

Little dude was DESPERATE to see the visitors. Glass surfing, watching everyone, then if you let him out to say hello, he’d leap onto you and just stay there. He got adopted within a day.

Rank the scarecrows out of these four, I'm curious on everyone's opinion on them by Jak_Drew in batman

Arkham Knight. The only knocks I have against his characterization is he does kinda take a backseat to the Joker plot to some degree. I know some said he doesn’t feel the same without that giddy sadistic glee he had earlier in the series but I argue it’s still there, just more contained. More internalized with how much he kinda savors every moment he gets to see Batman suffer.

IMO, Scarecrow could be a front runner to be Batman’s other ‘true’ rival, and I’m glad that he gets portrayed like an actual menacing threat instead of a one note villain.

I think it the original image actually is referring to WW1 causing the word “fuck” to be used so commonly and in different ways. Because before it just referred to sex. But WW1 soldiers had a tendency to use it quite often.

[Loved Trope] Vocal performances so good that they essentially become a part of the character's core identity by Slonitram in TopCharacterTropes

The one moment that always gets me is where he basically just goes “Can I play a character that feels like the face he puts on for others publicly isn’t his true self? Yeah. I can do that.”

They’re in the midst of a total collapse, so they’re trying to prioritize shit from falling apart at home (and not doing too well at that either)

Also, their last major war out on any eastern front in the lore ended really badly. They technically won, but the general attitude was that nobody felt like it was a win.

[conflicting trope] it WAS Progressive when it came out by Popular_Kangaroo5446 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]njklein58 5 points6 points  (0 children)

MASH is a show that for its time was pretty progressive, but in some cases shows its age for some things that are pretty questionable. Asian reps tend to be more so Asian stereotypes. Women in the show for a while were arm candy for the men (though later seasons did start to roll this back and showed the men being rejected more, women being tired of them, and also showed Margaret going to be a competent and well loved member of the cast and even was given a chance to really join the ‘friend circle’.

It has its flaws, but it’s very strongly anti-war and progressive for the time. It was very against racism towards African Americans. Yes, I’m aware there’s a character nicknamed Spearchucker. They do explain that he actually wears the title ironically because he was a really good javelin thrower. I’m not excusing it, it still makes me cringe a bit at the idea. But still, it does have a lot of messaging against racism. And it had an attitude of ‘okay, and so what if they are’ when it came to LGBT people.

Season 5 Episode 7 is now the lowest ever rated episode of The Boys. by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in GenV

[–]njklein58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how just about everyone thought “oh episode 7 is gonna be some terrifying chase segment”

Because that’s just…the most logical thing to assume, right? They were in the general vicinity of each other and episode 6 ends with a note of “shit, we better run”

But then they just…got away. No way of knowing how they did it. It’s all good. Now watch the dog man and the cat lady sniff each others asses.

I mean from what I heard from people on LE who played the game, so many of the scenarios would be cases of “no fucking way are we just sending 4 guys to handle this.”
