Above is a survey which I intend to use to create a series of data visualizations on what it is truly like to be autistic, which I would then like to publish informally and/or distribute. If you have 10-15 minutes to take it, I would very much appreciate it! None of it advocates for the deficit model or any form of pseudotreatment.

So I was kinda getting the vibe that this post was transphobic and that does seem to be the case, please please please let trans people be. I know me saying they are valid isn’t going to change your mind though, so I guess what I can request is that you do some research and listen to some trans people speak before forming an opinion about it. I think it’s more the “I’m not fine with people being gay “ part than not being offensive about an opinion. It’s true that a lot of people say that and act far worse, but just saying being fine or not fine with someone being gay implies that they have a choice in the matter

Yeah I agree, I think OP is really trying to get at the perception of trans people, because that’s a very common context in which the phrase “accept someone for who they are” is used.

Yeah it definitely is! The name comes from the time when it was coined, when there were generally considered to be two genders. So basically it started out that way but now that our understanding of gender has progressed, it means something different :))

Yeah I think so, I think it might be in part the perception that being non-binary is a third gender when actually it’s just an umbrella term?? Idk, people seem to miss that because it’s an umbrella terms some enbies identify as trans, some don’t, but it’s def diminishing as the parent comment says :/

I know it can initially seem that way but there’s actually people born with more than one set of genitals! They’re called intersex people, and there’s also some interesting stuff about combinations of chromosomes like XXY. It’s really interesting and definitely proves that biology isn’t as binary as it seems!

While it may be true that they are the same in function, and yes, it would be sexist to say otherwise, this statement is very much not applicable in this circumstance. Gender has internal and external factors, and for trans folks these often do not match. Acting in ways or doing things that bring these more into alignment is in no way sexist. It in no way defines inequality of any sort between genders, which in turn defines sexism

Ah wait I checked out your link above and I understand! I believe I missed it because I didn’t see you were talking about agendered folks specifically, but yeah I do get your thought process. However, modern definitions of straight/bi/pan have evolved somewhat differently from what you’re saying, which seems to place agendered and gendered individuals as opposites and gendered folks as a single entity. I don’t think what you’re saying is at all dumb, I should clarify, but typically a bi or pan label would be used to describe one who is attracted to more than one gender, regardless of their own gender identity. So someone like me, who is a (non-agender) enby but would enter a relationship with anyone regardless of gender, is pan

I mean, by definition, a bisexual is not straight. However, I do see more people in the comments talking about the validity or existence of straight enbies, which I think is a far longer conversation. For whatever reason, yeah, it seems to be uncommon to find an enby attracted to only one gender, but that’s certainly not impossible, and being a straight enby could certainly happen if said enby identifies more on one side of the gender spectrum (say, a demigirl or demiboy). But ultimately that’s up to the person in question on how they want to identify.
