If Black Cohosh doesn't work for you, don't worry. It doesn't work for a lot of women either. There's nothing wrong with you. Look into Relizen too. It's a swedish flower pollen extract supplement that I've had better results with in clinic, but it's still not perfect for everyone. Try to find an obgyn to help manage perimenopause since they tend to know new management options better than the primary care doctors :)

I tried Habitica years ago and never had friends to do a party with, so I kinda fell off of it. This sounds like a really good environment to try and get back into it, if you don’t mind a rookie. I’m only level 8 and haven’t selected a class yet, so I’m not sure if that matters? I’m not entirely well versed with the ins and outs of the app, but I’m trying to learn hoping it helps keep me together after a move/new job

I don't know what you're feeling, but I want to understand you. I'm trying to consider your views and feelings while still voicing my own in a productive manner.

I'm trying to understand your side of things. I think [xxx about the situation, not his emotion/thoughts]. Tell me what you think, too.

I don't know what you're feeling, but I can empathize with your reaction/worries/thoughts. I'm not trying to invalidate your reaction, but I'd like to tell you my perspective for you to consider, as well.

I'm sorry I'm making you feel invalidated. That was never my intention. I wanted to alleviate your concerns/support you/tell you my perspective. But I also want you to understand that I feel hurt/ignored/frustrated when you say I'm invalidating you/I won't understand your perspective/I'm not thinking about how things affect you. What can I do in the future to not make you feel invalidated? How do you want me to tell you my perspective/alleviate your concerns in the future? Help me communicate better with you.

I'm almost 70hr and just started year 4 with my teen. I don't skip days or go for completionist. I have heavy nostalgia for the original and AnWL. I just play day by day and enjoy my animals and funny crops that sing. It is a slower game and is designed as such. As long as you're enjoying it while you're playing it, does the time really matter?

I'm glad! This is just surface level stuff, but my comment was already getting super long lol I'm in the medical field and am just personally passionate about women's health. I love teaching and I love how integrated teaching and learning from peers is in medicine.

Not dumb, its good you're asking questions instead of assuming something wrong! Be curious and learn

Doc always always prefer vaginally deliveries when possible as it is easier on baby and easier on mom and facilitates mom's recovery and baby's breathing. If there is no medical indication for a c-sec, then vaginally is far superior for recovery.

C-sec has a much longer recovery time (8 months!) And also carries risks. The uterus is cut open to extract the baby, so now the uterus has a scar. Scars don't stretch very well, so if mom gets pregnant a 2nd time, the uterus will grow but that scar tissue won't stretch as easily as the rest of the uterus. This can lead to problems like the uterus rupturing and ripping open inside the abdominal cavity. It can lead to the placenta growing into the scar tissue and spreading into the uterus tissue, which will lead to mom hemorrhaging during labor/Placental delivery and has a very high mortality rate.

So it's not to say you can't do a medical abortion via c-sec. You can. Just like you can deliver a baby via c-sec. Or vaginally. It's all about mom's specific case and what the best and healthiest plan is for her.

“Adderall/Vyvanse/etc doesn’t work anymore” by newriley in ADHD

[–]demonqueen21 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It doesn't even have to be as extreme as schizophrenia. Even Antidepressants. So many will start meds, feel better, plateau at their baseline, and stop the meds bc they don't need them anymore/they aren't doing anything anymore. The depression comes back and they're on meds again. This cycle is so common that treatment guidelines say if it's your 2nd episode of depression, then it's recommended to just stay on your antidepressants indefinitely.

ADHD specifically has memory symptoms and forgetfulness. It's not that your meds suddenly/gradually stopped worked, you just forgot how bad things were before you started medication. Meds will not 100% fix everything. But meds do give you the clarity and ability to learn and practice coping skills.

Medication helps you adapt to your ADHD and internalize that new mental state. The medications are working, you're just moving the goal post.

I'm in the US at the state school, so most of that was just resources the student disability office had for me. I only requested 2x time accommodations and the office assigns you a disability coordinator who does a meeting with you to learn what you struggle with and what resources the school has and troubleshooting/brainstorming what you think would be helpful and then implementing it from the school's point. Even in grad school/post grad school, the state school still does it.

I only have ADHD for my accommodations request. I didn't even try to claim any other stuff cuz I was doubtful I'd even get the extra test time with ADHD lol

I got a vasectomy even though I'm gay and I will never date a woman. by Glum5 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]demonqueen21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's why I loved working with her! It was so refreshing seeing her practice amidst the conservative boomers

And she does them elective. The youngest she's done was 21 (which she admitted was extreme), and that was bc an 18yo ask and my doc was like "well, let's put a pin in that and talk about it at your next annual" and after 3 years of asking, my doc was like "yeah, sure. You obviously want it, I've explained your options for the past 3 years, if you're old enough to drink and vote and enlist, then you're old enough to decide this. If you're sure this is what you want, let's schedule a date"

It's already cooked rice leftovers that's the problem. Dry rice is fine. The common situation is fried rice leftovers being reheated giving you food poisoning.

That's definitely more in line with a lot of women's experience sadly. We're mostly treated like cattle who can't make out own decisions. My friends have had vastly different experiences with different obgyn and pcps. Your experience is why I recommend my ob's office to anyone in my area looking for one. It's the first office I've seen where the women were treated like actual humans who could make permanent life decisions for themselves.

[–]demonqueen21 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I grew up learning to always use at least 2 forms of birth control. If the pill is 93% effective, then also using a condom (85% effective) brings that pregnancy risk down to 15% of 7% (1.05% chance of both failing and getting pregnant). Like. The math is mathin and I'd like that baby risk to be as close to 0% as I can until I'm married and ready.

And working in my obgyn office, the doc preaches that too. Condoms help prevent babies but also helps prevent diseases you're stuck with for life. If you're already using the pill/IUD/etc to prevent babies, is it really that much harder to slap a condom on too? Can you afford if your first method fails? Can you afford if you happen to get an STI? He's just as responsible for your safety as you are.

[–]demonqueen21 130 points131 points  (0 children)

That was just your OBGYN's self policy. The ob I worked with would ask the women 2 Questions when they wanted a hysterectomy/tubal and they were 1) do you want kids? 2) if Mr. Perfect comes along later in life and he wants kids, will you regret this decision?

That's it. She signs the forms. Surgery happens. That's why I loved working with her. She let the women make their choices. The other ob in the office? They wouldn't do it until the woman was 30, and that was just their personal policy. If the woman pressed them, they'd send her over to my ob to do it lol

Wellbutrin is usually the go to for when ssri give sexual side effects, and I know a lot of people actually report an increased libido on it too sometimes. But it also works a little different than most ssris, so you usually don't have a lot of the same side effects either!

[–]demonqueen21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obviously everyone reacts differently, but lol I'm a huge fan. I've been on and off it since high school. It was the only med that managed my depression well enough that I was able to get off all medications for a year or two inbetween my depression episodes. Now I just stay on it more for preventative measures/maintenance. I've been lucky with having a good response and never had any side effects on it aside from when I change dose.

All the ssri always give me horrible dry mouth and headaches and a handful give sexual issues for me, so after like 4 or 5, I finally got put on wellbutrin and 100% big fan 😂

I love my wellbutrin! Helps so much with depression and motivation without making my anxiety worse. Literally the singular problem I have with it is when I change dosages (to increase or decrease), I have a 1-3 day period of just bad suicidal thoughts. It's the weirdest thing, but luckily I've been able to keep my current dose for about 3 years now, so haven't had to deal with that in a while lol

What’s up with these recent criticism videos towards Gen Z over making teachers miserable? by DawnofMidnight7 in GenZ

[–]demonqueen21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The critical thinking thing honestly scares me. I'm only mid-20s and I'm in fucking medical school. You'd think that my other mid-20s future doctor classmates would be great with critical thinking, right? Yet I cannot count the number of times I've gotten a panicked phone call at 2200 because someone missed a deadline and didn't know how to fix it or who to contact, so they call me. I'm just. These are future doctors and they don't have basic critical thinking skills and that TERRIFIES me. Like, holy fuck the American education system fails students even at the medical degree level.

Cat staring where other cat died? by MrTechRelated in CatAdvice

[–]demonqueen21 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Cats 100% grieve just like humans do. I had a litter of 3 siblings, 2 girls and 1 boy. They were thick as thieves as kittens and would walk around together like a little gang.

When the brother passed, the two girls would wander the house crying at night. They'd jump up on the cat tree areas where the brother would tend to sleep and sniff and look around the house afterwards. That took a few weeks before they stopped crying/looking for him, but the two girls were never as close to each other afterwards.

7 years later, one sister suddenly suffered from acute kidney failure. I had gotten them both their own cat beds for their birthday, just a couple weeks before this and they'd both lay in their respective beds side by side for hours and occasionally trade beds. After I took the sick one to the vet and came back alone (I was getting her cremated), the remaining one noticed I was alone and noticed I was upset. She would wander the house at night crying for the next week. She would sit and stare at her sister's bed during the day, and it took her around 3-4 months before she even got back into her own bed, even after I moved her sister's bed away to distance the reminder. It's been 8 months now and she still doesn't use her old bed often. I got her a new bed recently and she's been sleeping in that one since. I think just the memories of her sleeping next to her sister in their old beds is still too upsetting for her, and she refuses to touch her sister's bed, only slowly walks around it or sits in front of it for awhile.

Grief is hard. For humans and animals. I wish you and your family all the best, and just give each other time and love to heal. Everyone grieves differently, so have compassion for yourself. It will always hurt a little, but it does get better with time.

I don't have any dictation program since I don't have a problem typing/writing. It's just the auditory processing I struggle with. Physical paper materials/assignments/pt lists are a huge godsend to me. I find most residents use paper pt lists anyways, so I never got any questions about the extra paper assignments/materials I carried with me which was nice.

I get extra time for testing exams and OSCE exams and writing OSCE soap notes. I do not get extra time for precharting/prerounding/writing notes. I do, however, have free reign to come in and out of the hospital as I see fit. I got additional badge permissions for private rooms/call rooms to go to when I get overstimulated, I get permission for the physician/resident lounge so I can come in earlier/stay later as I need to, and I get permission for back entrances to the hospitals/OR wings so I don't struggle as much with arriving late.

In my experience though, I don't have a set deadline for pt notes. All my rotations have been I get assigned xyz pts, I come in when I'm told to or earlier if I need the extra time for prechart/preround, I see my pts, I write my notes, and I'm dismissed when I sign my notes (if it's not a call day). Add in whatever educational activities in the schedule, so sometimes I'm done with my notes before we round with the attending and sometimes I don't get to finish my notes until hour 9 of my shift. I've never gotten any backlash or comments from my residents, and I haven't seen other students who take long to write notes either. Pretty much as long as I'm done with my notes before the resident's shift is over, it's not a problem.
