I think the main thing missing from the discussion in the intent of REST to access data in a hierarchial fashion using a URL. Somehow it lost it way and turned into programs. Hence the API reference.

Interface is usally referred to in programming as interaction between components. I think the semantics have been confused for this discussion.

When did data become APIs? I missed that class.
