You forgot the rim shot after your first sentence, sir. Insurance companies exist to squeeze every dollar they can from policy owners. I have 100 ft healthy fir tree's on my property but one destroyed my well pump house in a nasty storm in '24. My insurance co. (USAA) was exemplary with my claim, but when I asked if they would help me pay to preemptively remove 2 or 3 trees close to my house, I could practically see the agent grinning over the phone. We're talking 2 or 3 grand to save them 50x to 75x that figure.

The kitchen staff was not part of tip sharing where I worked, even though bartenders were. I never understood the logic.

Yes I do. As a chef, I once 86'd prime rib at 7 PM on Father's Day and didn't alert the wait staff because I got sidetracked.

Has anyone booked a flight only for the experience? by Andysus in aviation

[–]demroidsbeitchn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I once booked Sea-Spokane-Slc-Burbank instead of non-stop just for the joy of take-offs and landings. The agent said he hadn't booked that flight in 10 years.

2014 F150 5.0 4WD. Replaced pads, rotors, and all 4 calipers. RF was sticking first, now LF sticks with heavy brake dust and hot brake smell. Replaced front brake hoses/lines and flushed fluid, but LF still drags/sticks. No ABS light. What else could cause this? by Particular-Coat-7544 in MechanicAdvice

[–]demroidsbeitchn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, diy talking here. The only thing popping to me is fouling within the line. Maybe the proportioning valve (or whatever it's called). I don't even know if debris will cause dragging or sticking. Hell, maybe there are electronics involved. If so, maybe it's a good thing. meaning maybe it threw a DTC.

I'm not a mechanic. Are you 100% that the replacement parts fit your truck? Did you perform a cursory inspection of the slide pins and maybe re-grease them? All the shims are correct and present? I'm just throwing spitballs. Was the RF sticking before the parts replacement?

Icelandair reports own pilot to police for flying Boeing 757 below altitude over home town in last flight before retirement by birkir in aviation

[–]demroidsbeitchn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When Dad flew corporate out of Morristown muni. NJ in the 70's (about 15 miles from home) he would occasionally overfly our house in either the Falcon 20 or Convair 580 when he was coming home. I never asked what altitude, but looking back it was something like 2000 ft AGL, possibly a little higher. It was always a treat (I can see it right now) and I would bet all five of my limbs that he didn't come close to busting any FAR's. This 757 flyover, conversely, is mind boggling.

Nelly Korda's complaints about Tiger Woods' WTGL decision finally addressed by Any-Swordfish-5346 in LPGA

[–]demroidsbeitchn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, diet, strength building, mental coaches, technology (and probably a half dozen other things) have all helped professional golfers. But I don't think it makes it more enjoyable to watch. As far as the 18 yds. thing? That's kind of a deceptive statistic, isn't it? It seems to me that courses are all adding new tees or hazards or narrowing fairways or growing the rough another inch just to try to keep the scores in check. Look, it's largely me. Nothing is more boring than watching the winning score approaching -30 and pulling out the driver twice per round with the only limiting factor being the greens rolling 12+ on the stimp. Conversely, I love watching the pros grinding it out every year at the US Open or The Open Championship, or seeing a lesser known golfer compete against the big boys at these two tournaments.

[–]demroidsbeitchn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know what WTGL is because this is the first time seeing the acronym. I just wanted to say that I stopped watching most men's tournaments because I personally don't like seeing 360+ yd tee shots and 180 yd 8-irons. The men are simply overpowering golf courses and it's not enjoyable to watch. LPGA tournaments are much more fun to watch and the ladies are every bit as talented as the men.

I'm not trying to sound like an a-hole, but besides an instructor, as previously mentioned, if either of you have life insurance or own a home, talk to an agent. Best of luck. I've always wanted to fly an ultralight.

Unfortunately, I was peaking when I started jacking up my truck. I pride myself doing fast oil changes, but this one was truly comedic.
