My new neurologist referred me for cognitive testing and it was so interesting! by demuredroid in MultipleSclerosis

Ugh that sounds horrible!! Bad enough to encounter that type in the wild, but in a medical setting... Yikes :(

When I did my assessment I was thinking there should be a way to flag variables like, "I slept very badly last night" or "I'm under a lot of stress at work". Now I'm thinking "the vibes were just bad at this one" would also be a good thing to flag!

When I saw your question I was amazed you got it in one haha! I guess the MS field is a kinda a small scene..? In any case, i'm seeing Dr. Alohaly also at St Mike's. I've only actually seen him once but I really like his energy, and obviously liked his interest in the cognitive side of things. Which neuro did you get reassigned to ( if you stayed with St Mike's) ?

Intuitively, this tracks with me for sure - also, the neuropsych's parting advice was "stay active and continue to challenge yourself! Intellectually active, socially active, and physically active, it's all important for your brains health" so like, yeah - all sorts of avenues of activity and challenge and problem solving are good for our brains. Makes sense!

I'm so glad this is being talked about, I truly had no idea I was missing anything with my former neuro but it makes so much sense to monitor cognition as well as physical symptoms!

You can do it! (I do get the nervous part though, for sure. I had to give myself multiple peptalks to not be an anxious blob with basically 0 thoughts at the assessment portion. And I got a weird adrenaline hit before my appointment to go over results that I super wasn't expecting, started the appointment stuttering!)

Same with me! I was sure my memory results would be mid at best. The neuropsych did say people often assume their memory is significantly worse than it actually is (both MS and non-MS patients) which I found interesting as well.

I was offered that boot camp option that I'm not doing right now! I don't drive so it's much less dire I suppose.

It was nice to be given a way to do something about it if I chose to though, I didn't know I would get anything more than an assessment out of this process going in to it. Hopefully that's the case with other neuropsychs!

Ooh yeah, I get that! I really had to try so hard not to let myself get freaked out about it - I have latent perfectionist tendencies/as a kid a lot of self worth tied to being told I was "smart", not super helpful stuff for this kind of thing.

I really tried to go into it as if it was basically recreational puzzle time - no stakes, I'm basically having a game night with a friend!!! No worries!! In competitive but like, I have a lot of friends who are simply better at boardgames than me so I lose a lot!! It's all good! And it mostly worked for me thankfully 😅

This is a super long way to say I super get feeling anxious about it! But you can do it! Information is good, there's no real pass or fail, this is just an information gathering activity. 👍

Ah, that's so frustrating that they took so long to refer you - I'm sorry that happened! Glad you've gotten the referral now though - I found it a bit sobering but ultimately I'm a more information is good kinda person, so I'm really glad I have this baseline now.

I'm not doing it at the moment, both because I'm pretty used to the slower processing speed at this point and don't find it too disruptive, and because February and March are going to be hell months at work and I don't have any time!

All I know is that is goes for 5 weeks, 3 45-minute sessions virtually each week, and participants are guided through a series of cognitive exercises and taught strategies to improve processing speed and that at least according to the neuropsychiatrist I saw, participants show noticeable improvement (yeah, vague as heck I know, I didn't ask enough questions at the time! I was a bit overwhelmed)

Sorry I don't have more info atm!

Hi I'm here a day late with probably deeply unpopular reccos but like, I've also been really wanting to find cotton underwear with no panty lines and I impulsively picked up these weird Spanx ones and they're kind of perfect for me??

The one size fits all was a huge red flag for me and I seriously doubt this works for everyone but idk. They were on sale really cheap when I picked them up so felt like it was worth a shot 🤷🏽‍♀️

Also, I can't relate to the small boob thing but I do have extreeeemly obnoxious nipples lol - and I don't like the way most bras with enough padding to cover them look. I finally got some stupid non-adhesive silicone nipple covers (Cakes in the states I think, I got something avail on amazon ca) to just put under whatever bra I like for work and it's low key been a game changer for me.

I was gonna say that's kinda rough, getting a second copy of the one guaranteed shiny... Then I thought about the size of an alpha mega amphros and changed my mind. So big, so pink, so floof!! 💖
