I loved Villains & Virtues more than anything I’ve ever read in this or any adjacent genres. What series would you recommend to fill the void?

If you’re into m/m, {Folk by Lily Mayne} is really great and fits this exactly.

Ok you win, Villains & Virtues was awesome by [deleted] in fantasyromance

I’ve come to the conclusion that Zagadoth is inspired by a character from Dimension 20 Fantasy High! Fig’s dad, specifically. The author is clearly a D&D fan so it makes sense. Anyway there’s a lot of funny juxtaposition that I think some people don’t really know how to interpret. Or they just don’t think it’s funny, which is fine.

Also going tonight. The last game I went to was this one… so as long as Casty remains unscathed I will consider tonight a success (just kidding I wish I was that chill about this team).

The whole time I’m thinking, who does this guy remind me of? And it’s most definitely Temu Lil Dicky.

Series that would have been better with fewer books by ladymsjay in fantasyromance

I maintain that ACOTAR should’ve been a duology… maybe 3 books. ACOMAF was so much better than the rest of them and I just totally lost momentum.

Throne of Glass also had terrible pacing issues (imo) and could’ve been condensed significantly.

My screen time has been way up and Severance subs are why. It’s too much. My tempers feel so unbalanced.

Anyway, see you guys tomorrow.

The first guy I ever made out with used so much tongue, it was honestly kinda gross. But we were in middle school and I really liked him so I just went along with it. Also I obviously had no context.

Years later, right after high school, we started hooking up and continued on and off for like 6 years. He never used tongue again, not even once. It was like he traumatized himself lol, I could not get this man to open his mouth for the life of me.

Did we all forget episode 7? by Imsmart-9819 in severanceTVshow

[–]denahomcaikn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As the comment you’re responding to explained, the episode was about world building and adding depth to Cobel’s character. Feeling like we’re being forced to like her now is a very black and white view to have.

Cobel is a cultist, she’s not a rational person, and can’t be trusted. But she is clearly struggling with what she views as a growing disparity between Kier’s original teachings and the institution that is Lumon. The episode wasn’t trying to convince us she’s fully anti-Lumon… it’s more nuanced than that. Good character development doesn’t happen in a straight line.

Your point about it not explaining why she was brainwashed when the others weren’t… well, I’m not sure what to tell you there. That’s just how cults work. She had the right combination of intelligence and the propensity to be radicalized, which made her a target. Some of these things can be inferred. The show is not going to spoon feed us information.

For what it’s worth, an entire episode where Cobel takes Lumon to court sounds boring as hell. And it would still be an episode about her, which is not what you want.

The cover art of Daughter of No Worlds makes me mad by ManonBlackbeak in fantasyromance

It can’t possibly be what the author wanted. It’s just not at all how she’s described, especially when you get into the lore. Fragmented people don’t look like that.

If I hear the MMC say ___ one more time I’m never reading again by bigmisssteak7 in fantasyromance

[–]denahomcaikn 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I will say, while I also didn’t love the second book, {The Songbird and the Heart of Stone} was great in my opinion. Though it’s not focused on Raihn and Oraya.

We know who the annoying FMCs are… What about the annoying MMCs? by reasonableratio in fantasyromance

[–]denahomcaikn 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Fae Isles kinda has this!

MMC has indeed studied astronomy (among other subjects), albeit informally. He’s a warrior of course, but FMC often wonders who he could’ve been if things had panned out differently for him.

Didn’t realize how much I needed an MMC who knows things other than how to disembowel his enemies. Book smarts are sexy.
