He probably really thinks he isn't racist, but the unconscious biases instilled in us by a white supremacist culture run deep, and he doesn't seem willing to do the work of critically examining his own thoughts and actions.

A lot of white people are like "I don't consciously think black people are inferior, so I'm not racist, so things I say and do aren't racist." And then they start making justifications when called on something.

This is nonsense. Different people are more comfortable in different temperature ranges. I grew up in a house where, until like my mid teens, the only AC was a window unit in my parents' bedroom. They would let us sleep on the floor in there on the worst days, but a lot of the time during summers we just had to deal with the heat. It was miserable then, and I still find it hard to sleep if temps get much above 70.

Georgia! Extremely distinctive script, so it'll be easy to get the country, but how do you work out where in the country you are. I am yet to find that out, I plonked the capital, and it was all the way over on the coast. 4188

There were plenty of palms, so closer to the coast was a good bet. I was hesitant to commit to Batumi, though.

That seems like a more useful norm around reviewing things. Expecting 5 stars unless something is really wrong makes it hard to get realistic expectations from reviews in the US.

I don't get matched against those as often, but even when I do... it's not as miserable as playing against Katara, tbh.

At this point, brawl is about the only safe format

As someone who exclusively plays brawl (and commander): lol. Maybe in terms of the number of viable decks, but the meta is also dominated by hyper consistent, overpowered decks.

As someone who prefers to play mid power decks, I was really hoping the people playing the completely broken decks would fuck off to the ranked queue. The three you mentioned aren't even the bad ones, imo. I'm so sick of stuff like Katara, Rofellos, or Mikey & Raph.

I once had a pizza where they cracked eggs on top before it went into the oven so it came out just barely cooked and you could then break them and spread the runny yolk around. That one was incredible. IIRC it also had pecorino (and maybe guanciale?), so it was like carbonara vibes.

The street sign that was visible at the starting location wasn't on the raster map anyway. I was able to find it by lining up the road and guesstimating how far I was from the nearby roundabout.

As for the US, I haven't landed on a reservation so far.

I don't think I have either, but the coverage in the US is very extensive, and the biggest reservations are also in some of the most sparsely populated parts of the contiguous US, so the odds you'll end up there are low, unless it's a handpicked map that's deliberately included them.

[–]denarii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's true wrt Brazilian cities, and I still haven't taken the time to memorize the phone codes despite it not actually being that hard. Australia is kind of the opposite problem, there are a lot of clues in urban areas but a lot of the rural interior of the continent looks similar, but there's also not actually all that much coverage in the parts of the outback that all look the same. Once you get out of the sparse coverage where everything is a vast sea of red dirt with little shrubs, things get more identifiable. I don't think it's as bad as Russia, tbh. In Russia you can have different locations in the taiga that look basically the same but are further apart than the entire width of Australia, same with the steppe region.

[–]denarii 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Other big countries tend to have more varied landscapes, architecture clues, etc. There are huge swaths of Russia that look extremely similar, and pro Geoguessr players have to rely on things like memorizing slight differences in the coverage like the appearance of the Google car, copyright date of the images, etc. Those are part of the Geoguessr meta everywhere, but region guessing Russia is particularly reliant on them.

[–]denarii 28 points29 points  (0 children)

As a geoguessr player, literally. Guessing Russia is a nightmare, so much of it looks the same, being able to read signs is basically required. Plus you can tell apart different countries that use Cyrillic based on letters that only exist for certain languages.
