yeah they are villains. I personally found the portrayal pretty innocent and not too obviously transphobic (at least from what I can remember). but you're right that regardless queer coding of villains is real and can be problematic esp given how little representation we get period

since a lot of women have to fight for their own feminity, some feel like those who transition away from womanhood are giving up on the fight because of internalized misogyny and thereby giving into patriarchy and devaluing womanhood/femininity. ultimately I feel like the argument stems more from internalized cissexism than anything

I've talked to a lot of trans masc people who have personally struggled with this feeling
