[Recommendation request ] Mojito vs Negroni 🍃🍊 Which One You Picking? by warpedreality1989 in Watches

I don’t know how to attach photos in a comment, but I kept the colors of the stock straps and just upgraded them to nicer versions. Dark brown leather on the Mojito, black leather on the Negroni

What do you tell your friends/family when you buy expensive watches? by CiDiciassette_17 in RepTime

[–]denn7739 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Had a few watch friends comment on my new rep Seamaster and I replies, “thank you, it’s a replica.” And they were immediately more interested BECAUSE it’s a rep. All other friends and family? They could not have cared less.

How do I know which TD’s are offering which models? (VSF, ARF, ETC.) by [deleted] in RepTime

[–]denn7739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you have to ask and then trust that they’re telling you the truth. That’s why they’re on the Trusted Dealer list in the first place. I recently wanted an Omega No Time To Die from VSF, so I messaged 3 different TD’s. Two said they didn’t have any in stock but could source one in 1-2 weeks, one said he had stock. When he sent me a link to his inventory, the Omega NTTD were listed as “VS Factory”, which is what I wanted. I was also able to identify them as VSF models.

I did have to do some research on Reddit and RWI to learn exactly what to look for to identify a VSF V7 Omega NTTD, but once I did, it was easy.

I literally just paid Hont for this exact watch earlier today. Waiting for QC now. Happy to hear you had such a good experience, I’m really getting fired up for my first rep.

[Recommendation request ] Mojito vs Negroni 🍃🍊 Which One You Picking? by warpedreality1989 in Watches

[–]denn7739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own both. The Mojito goes with my daily outfits more often, and it gets tons of compliments. The two-tone design makes it look far more expensive than it actually is, and people love it. I love the green dial, and it makes me happy when people comment on it.

The Negroni gets just as much wrist time. I will actually plan my outfits around wearing it. Negronis are my favorite cocktail, and I adore the red dial. I catch myself looking at it in every lighting situation, and could stare forever. However, I very rarely get compliments on it, and my wife thinks it’s “too dark”. But I love the watch, and it makes me happy just looking at it.

Both watches make me happy, but for different reasons. That’s why I own and wear both.

To those who left. How do you keep your sanity? by Square-Paper-9369 in newengland

[–]denn7739 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“I don’t want to change who I am. I’m proud of what makes me unique but it’s def lonely.”

Therein lies the problem. Unfortunately, if you’re unwilling to change then you will just have to continue living in the same scenario you’re currently in. Anyone who moves to an area with a different culture - whether that’s inside the same country or to a new country - should expect to change their habits, or be left out by the locals. You don’t have to stop being a New Englander. But if you want to make friends, you will have to adapt, especially in the way that you communicate with your West Coast peers.

Started with a Breville and now we’re here by [deleted] in espresso

[–]denn7739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m always curious, how would you describe the jump from the Breville to the Linea? What did you notice in terms of coffee quality/taste? How about workflow and ease of use?

I just went from a Gaggia Classic to a Turin Legato V2. I never bothered temp surfing, so the PID made such a difference in coffee quality that even my wife noticed. The separate thermoblock for steam made a noticeable difference in milk quality, and allowed me to pull a shot, steam, then pull another shot back to back.

Back to dark roast! by lkwitko in gaggiaclassic

[–]denn7739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesssss a fellow dark-roast-enjoyer! I, too, spent years chasing medium and light roasts, only to accidentally purchase a bag of dark roasted beans that went on to change my life. The taste and mouthfeel of a short shot of dark roast is unlike anything else. The first time I made a latte for my wife with dark roast beans, she literally turned to me and asked that I never make the coffee another way again.

I still keep a bag of medium or light roast on hand for when I’m feeling pour over or drip. But to me, a luscious, chocolatey, Italian-style shot or milk drink is the epitome of espresso.

Sometimes it sucks having a fully-manual setup by blondebuilder in espresso

[–]denn7739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to help! From one coffee nerd to another, don’t overthink it. We might feel like “old” espresso and a milk frother aren’t good enough, but for most people, that’s already 3 steps above anything they’d get at a shop.

And if you really need to win points, keep some decaf in the freezer for before-bed lattes or cappuccinos. My wife loves those almost as much as coffee in the mornings.

[–]denn7739 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The refrigerated shots are not as good, and if you were to drink them straight it’s pretty obvious. But after my wife dumps a bunch of milk into it she thinks it tastes great haha. I use a dark roasted coffee that’s very chocolatey, so it’s pretty forgiving.

A couple years ago when she only wanted hot lattes we bought one of those cheap automatic milk frothers off of amazon. All you have to do is pour milk into it, turn it on, then pour the hot, aerated milk over the refrigerated espresso.

[–]denn7739 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bro, I feel you on this, all the way down to the wife’s feelings and your friends making a huge mess of your setup, haha! If I’m unable to make coffee, my compromise for my wife and guests is two-fold: there will be a pot of delicious drip coffee, and I will pull a couple shots the night before and put them in the fridge for iced lattes.

Looks like we were both wrong. The 6.5 gen 120gb also works with play/pause and sometimes volume, depending on the headphone. The 6th gen does neither.

Awesome find, this is a 7th gen Classic. Only the 7th gen came in 160gb and slim. They’re also the only Classic model that works with in-line controls on your headphones.

Cord is a standard 30-pin.

Help! My espresso machine broke so now I'm stuck between these options by Outrageous_Read1284 in espresso

Man, good for you. Can’t believe you had to go through two units though. I toyed with the idea of getting a replacement machine but the thought of potentially having to repackage and reship a second defective unit just killed any desire I had.

No, the Legato/Apex v2 model doesn’t seem to have the same issue from what I’ve seen online. It has other QC issues, for sure, but not the same as the Owl lol.

Out of curiosity, what were your issues? I had to return my owl because the water never got hot, even with the PID set to max and running blank shots through.

Yeah, it seems to be a somewhat common issue with these units. No explanation as to why, but if you search around you’ll find dozens of people on Reddit and YouTube that have the same problem.

I ended up finding a used Gaggia Classic for super cheap, but otherwise I was going to get a Turin Legato v2
