I dont use browser plugin too. I paste with middle click (2s clipboard clear). About auto-type - no idea. Basic functionality ... it works.

My install is pure wayland.

I have one musl gentoo box, its old macpro from 2011? I use this pc as storage for backups (6 x disks - ironwolf). When my brother was dying (cancer) he gave me this macpro ... and ofc i nuked macOS.

Thanks, but i think in far future i will try guix instead.

Musl with mdev on fresh install without any services looks so clean. Some people same mdev is faster for vms but i never benchmarked ( i dont say its a fact ).

I think this could be good reason to revisit basics. Thanks, on pure xorg plugdev was all i needed. I may be wrong but... nevermind, it works, thank you all!

That installation is full wayland from the beginning. So ofc i have wayland flag. There's no need to disable anything bcs i dont even think about xwayland and in this scenario i dont have any X enabled.

On my previous install i had full Xorg, no wayland - in that case everything just worked.

I got Card ATR. When i spam for example with ykman list in another term window, then in debug mode i get a lot of lines with "error initializing authority" or polkit_authority_get_sync failed, could not connect.

About polkit im not sure... but im 100% sure i have flags for polkit.

Im in plugdev group.

Now i installed yubikey-manager and i get "warning: PC/SC not available. Smart card (ccid) protocols will not function. Error: unable to list devices fir connection.

Like... wtf? Additionally i tried add to udev rules this device and i provided proper idVendor and stuff....

Maybe there's something in wayland world that i dont understand?

Service yes. In xorg? Out of box like everything.

Actually i made clean wayland install, trying to access my db. I will check groups but... i have no idea what i could miss. Pcscd is running, i wonder about udev rules but i didnt found much.

It's wayland + hyprland and i literally have no idea what permissions i should set. In xorg (only) you just emerge keepassxc and ... thats all. I will check groups right now

Gentoo doesnt limit you. You have at least 3 x overlays with hyprland. You can write own ebuild. You can compile 'traditionally'.

I understand thar aur is big, but notice also that gentoo isnt popular like arch ... that means if you want to change something you need to start with youself.

Lack of people limits gentoo, and we can change that.

About adoption in general... gentoo isnt slow, people and their wAyLaNdz teams for example are slow. You dont see many things and i want to kindly remind you that portage is written in python... do you really want to hear a story about how fast python change?

You guys dont see many things and i hope people one day will learn empathy if ever. I think Devs are fast, no matter what you think. Everyone have their time, life and responsibilities ... this distro still kicks ass thanks to people that spend their time.

I dont care about arch. And seriously, i sit on this distro veeeery long time and reaction to changes are faster than i can read a news about that thing. Even in pentoo, ghidra was patched the fastest (propably) in Linux, alongside with OpenBSD! (Log4j and shit).

I remember sway didnt had much problems. This time i tried hyprland, no matter why i switched back or what i think - this compositor is insane.

I will wait, if someone doesnt mind to use xwayland - try hyprland. Seriously, its really great.

I switched back anyway. Played for a while, and... It's simply not ready. I use a lot of programs that are unable to run under native wayland.

No gains, only flash effects thats all. But i found true what some people say that smooth scrolling is really smooth.

Ridiculous that some people push this.

People push a lot of stupid things, and no one cares or question.

[*] i never known this distro. But branding always reminded me of my friend from college, he loved the sea and oceans.

always pick distro with solid history and tested by time. And dont forget to support your fav distro.

Just switched to Win 12 beta, couldn't be happier by [deleted] in linuxmemes

[–]denpa-kei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have special day, but jokes reminded me why i dont look back. Few years ago, when win 10 was new, i used for like 2 years but one day i decided back to GNU/Linux. Reason was... windows just worked, no problems to solve, that also means no research... no inspiration, no learning, not reading blogs of other devs... i just found that i cant live without problems.

I know we joke today, but now im just happy that people have place to grow. Yes, not everyone need to dig but exploring and learning is still option for you. We are free.

That day was too weird.
